When I suggested Che, DH said, Why not go the whole way with Fidel? It was a joke, but I kinda like it.
What do you reckon? DH says he'd get called Fiddle at school...

I like it. It goes well with your other ds's name. And yeah, he might get called fiddle. I got called Smell and Hell, and my name's pretty normal. :dunno:
STAY WITH CHE!
Let me live through you! Beth was going to be Che if she had a willy.
I think of the Witches of Eastwick - the butler...
Yeah I'd worry about the kids being mean and calling him the fiddler.
Che was a serious contender for us. I love it!
I love Che, not so keen on Fidel though but I think it could grow on me
See, I don't actually like Che, we're just getting desperate for ideas.
He (if he's a he) *might* grow up into a bearded, cigar smoking revolutionary-cum-dictator... in which case it would be perfect
All I can think about is Fidel Castro, sorry. Much prefer Che :).
Che is definitely sexier and more PC than Fidel
i have to be honest...the first thing i thought was ''i cant imagine calling my child after fidel castro'' like PP said , i think the association is very strong! :) but thats just me! :)
$20 says our kids won't have the foggiest who Che or Fidel are.
Do you like Chet or Chad?
I was going to say another vote for Che .... you could get him the t-shirt.
Not a fan of Fidel....
I feel your pain though, boy's names are so hard :dunno:
I really like Myles... :)
hmmm. I see the Fidel, fiddle/fiddler thing. TBH, Fidel Castro looks like a dodgy old man you wouldn't trust around the kiddies, so that's how I'd associate it.
If you're inspired by revolutionaries, how about Mao? or Vladimir?
I googled good looking revolutionaries for you and it came up with Jake Gyllenhal - who knew he was a revolutionary? But Jake was on our shortlist.
Tito? Probably my fave dictator, and the one I'm most likely to name a pet after.
Fidel is a great name, it means "loyal" in Spanish, and Fidel Castro is not the only one ever.
And, ummm, so what if he gets called Fiddle? It's not like that's actually an insult. If it were a name like Duchesne that sounded a little like douche, then, yeah, I'd get it. But if he's got reasonable self-esteem and confidence, then getting called fiddle probably isn't a big deal. If a kid wants to pick on another kid, they'll find a reason - their hair, their backpack zipper tag, the way they cover their schoolbooks.
Che I don't like because it's not a name. You may as well call him Dude.
Fidel I kind of like, it grows on you... I like it better now than I did 3 minutes ago. It's got a great meaning too.
I think it's funky.
It'll be years before any of friends figure out who Fidel Castro is and what does it matter?
Dude's a cool name. I like Fidel, it's growing on me too. What about Atilla? I know an Atilla IRL. True! :D
My immediate association with the name is obviously Castro, but as the gals have mentioned, by the time your little tacker is at school there may not be that automatic comparison (mind you, that's what history classes are supposed to be about too). TBH, I'm not particularly fussed on Fidel, but that's just me. I think if you and DH like it then go for it! I do prefer Fidel over Attila, Vladmir and Mao though! : )
There is an Atilla at the boys' school.
I don't mind Vladimir, it's kind of cool.
I love Vladimir but DH ruled it out cos all he could think of was Vlad the impaler. I could never name anyone Mao the association would be too much.
Tenzin? That's the Dalai Lamas name
Not sure about Fidel, I don't dislike it though.
I like it! I like Che better though!
Well I can tell you that kids will make anything out of anything that rhymes..
I have Ruby: Ruby duby doo... Ruby booby, Rubes... Ruby Rooster. Ruby red dress...
Finnian: Finny bin bin... Finny bin laden (redface insert), Finny binny bo bo boy...
Lucy: Luce as in Loose.. Lucy Lu. Lulu,
Eva: Eva Beaver. Evie Keneevee... Evil Keneeval (Sp), Evil Janice (her middle name is Janice).
Imogen: Immy, Dim Sim, etc etc
Fidel has a gorgeous meaning... I think it is funky & cool... It gets a thumbs up from me!
Not a huge fan of Che.
I couldn't get Fidel Castro out of my mind, but I think that none of *his* classmates are going to care two hoots. And *his* teacher will probably be celebrating their 12th birthday as we speak, so will have forgotten who Kevin was, let alone Fidel.
Are you doing ok with girls manes?
Um... wasn't specifically looking for dictators and warlords, but thanks for the suggestions  Maybe we could go with Jong-Il...
Actually DH likes Armin, which makes me think of Idi Amin... so maybe there is a theme here.
So it's Fidel as in fidelity? That's cool, thanks. It does kinda grow on you
Lol at the teacher being 12 now... god I"m old
What about Eamonn (AY-mun) if he likes Armin?
I hope our kids do know who both Che and Fidel are! Our education system is supposed to be getting better, not worse. It's a bit like saying everyone will have forgotten Mao, Hitler, Atilla, Saddam, Bin Laden, Pol Pot, etc. Some might be forgotten by some people, but not in the next hundred years for a lot of people. I certainly hope not, anyway.
Regardless of whether anyone else knows, does it bother you and your family to have that name association?
Of course the best warlord name is Genghis! His original name was Temujin.
Then there's Sitting Bull or Crazy Horse, but that's just getting silly :)
I am with you Jennifer! Immy's teacher is probably about 10 now too... Very scary thought... OMG - I am certainly "maturing"....
I like Armin. It makes me think of Armand van helden which is not a bad thing if you like an uplifting dance track.
I'm not sure about Jong Il. I think you'd be better off with Kevin.
OK, so if you're not after a dictator but you like the sound of Fidel, what about slightly socially stunted but very talented cyclists? Like.... Cadel?
I like Armin too!! Makes me think of Armin van Buuren :D We got my DS1's name from a wingsuit flier. No-one is ever going to make that association but just me knowing makes it more special.
Friend of mines name is Fidel and to be honest I have never once thought of calling him fiddle or anything... His is pronnounced Fid-elle
I like it :)
Che reminds me of a Chinese word i spoke when travelling China, the word is pronounced Che Che meaning 'thankyou', i have to say i loved saying it as it sounded pretty :D
How about Fedel instead Fidel ? I use to know an Italian family and their surname was Fedel, reckon that sounds fantastic
i like both! i reckon they are both keepers and choose when you look at bubs and see what would suit them better!
Wasnt fedele the surname of Sara-Marie on big brother? Thats more off putting than any Cuban connection IMO lol
