She won't go to sleep.

I'm at the end of my rope tonight. DD is exhausted, been awake since 3.30pm (when she woke from her nap).

She's been irritable and cranky all day, I think her top teeth are coming through and she has had a fair bit of wind (burps) all day - I have no idea what I may have eaten to have passed through my breast milk to make her like that. :(

She won't feed to sleep, I've left her in her cot to roll around and she cries - of course I won't leave her to cry so that doesn't last long. DH is now rocking her and things have gone quiet but that has taken 2 attempts. I've taken myself out of the bedroom because I'm getting frazzled and she can probably sense that.

Don't really need an answer, just wanted to put it out there.

I'm so sick and tired of reading FB status updates of friends with babies younger than DD who sleep through the night and go to sleep straight away when put down in their cots. It's BS.

I love feeding DD to sleep, I love co-sleeping, it's just been a difficult day :(

i hear you on the fb statuses....now repeat after me :lol:...they will sleep through when they're ready, they will sleep through when they're ready (please let it be soon, please let it be soon.....)

Do we have the same child? My LO had a 1o min and a 20 minute sleep today. She then went to bed at 7 and woke up 10 mins later. DH patted her and got her back to sleep for 20 mins before she was up again. She had another 5 min sleep. Currently feeding again and hopefuly will go to sleep and bed again.

I don't have a solution, but just want to let you know you are not alone.

another that hears you on f/b updates about sleeping through bubbas. She will sleep through when she is ready, in the meantime remind yourself how many more hours you are getting to spend so much time with her while she is little.

Sue, I promise that I won't put a status update on my FB about my DS's sleep patterns. I also think they're BS. And I don't understand why it's considered a good thing to update your FB with your child's sleep patterns...is it a bragging thing? Cause that's just rude.

Hope you get some rest soon. My DS has a cold so we're not allowed to put him down on his own today...best get to bed myself.

:hug: Definately sounds like some teething is going on there. DS has been like this for the last week or so just not wanting to sleep no matter what you try. If it makes ya feel better DS is 11.5months and never slept though and generally wakes up at least 2-3 times a night :rolleyes:

:hug: mine too tonight... His first tooth broke through today so he is getting extra cuddles and love! Last night he was awake every hour thrashing around and crying and i couldn't work out what was wrong. Hope she settles soon and you can take a break for a bit.

The only reason i can think they are posting on FB is because its exceptional, every other night i bet there kids wake as frequently as ours, they just aren't telling everyone about it.

Thanks everyone. She settled at around 9.30pm but that was with an almighty crash...... poor wee sausage. I'd been trying to get her to go to sleep since 7pm - when she showed me that she was tired. :o

A friend has my NCSS book and I am just about to email her to ask for them back!

Has Moozle been taking in more solid foods lately? I wonder if maybe her tummy is getting used to all the new things and its upsetting her abit.

Perhaps she just needed comfort cause of teeth etc even though she was so tired? My DD is currently doing something similar in the middle of the night and I was stressing about it until I realised that she would get to sleep eventually and she would get enough sleep and it wouldn't hurt her really and the best thing is to give her cuddles and calm her as she needs it.
MS you are doing a fabulous job raising your beautiful daughter and I look to your parenting experiences quite a lot as a guide for my own as I think we have similar approaches.

Kate, she seems to be taking a wee bit more in. And I have noticed from her nappies that she is struggling to get a poo out. I wonder if she's a bit blocked up. She hasn't had a good poo for a few days and she's very windy - burps and pumps! :)

I just had another screaming match trying to get her down for her nap. Again, she's been showing me that she's tired for about an hour yet when it comes to settling down, she's all over the place. She is clearly exhausted but just won't give into it.

I've given her some nurofen for her ??teething. Not sure what to do for the potential pooing problem. Just keep feeding I guess. When she wakes I am going to put her in the sling. My nerves are a bit shattered today and I'm not feeling as patient as I usually am, I really hope she's not picking up those vibes :(

ETA Just also realised that she's 36 weeks this week and THAT my friends is a WONDER WEEK (week 37)! :doh:

You are describing almost word for word the last 3 or 4 weeks in my house! Every sleep has become a real struggle, and my patience has been wearing really thin. DH has been a saviour through the night and on weekends as I've needed a little bit of distance so DD doesn't pick up on it. (I hate to admit that but it's true, we have all been running on little sleep and I don't wear it very well!)

It's been so frustrating because she is really tired, but fighting it and fighting it. We've only woken twice overnight the last few nights, and she is starting to be a but more chilled for day naps, so I hope it's passing. Don't mean to go on about us, but just wanted you to know you're not alone, and hopefully it will all calm down soon :) Everytime we hit a WW I think it can't be as intense as the previous one, but no..... ha ha

With the poos, I find as long as I'm offering DD a range of fruit each day, she's pretty good with pooping, miss it a day or two and she seems to block up. Pear seems to work a treat here ;)

You know, that's a good point, over the weekend we haven't had our usual morning and afternoon tea fruit that we have. Everything goes to ***** at the weekend when daddy is home LOL :) We get into a good groove in the week then the weekends are totally different.

Thanks Marcellus, I'm thinking the same about DD. It seems that she has to be sooooooo buggered to go over at the moment. I'm trying to roll with her punches but she's a handful and I'm feeling quite burnt out at the moment. We got out for a huge walk this morning though, which was good for me - and of course good for her. I've realised too that I haven't been looking after myself as well as I could which is probably contributing to being so frayed around the edges and vice versa.
Today is a brand new day :)

MammaSue, Nurofen is quite harsh on their little tummy's. I know it is meant to be better than panadol for teething (due to its anti inflamatory properties, but it is best if you can alternate it with panandol.
This may well be why she is a bit windy and constipated. will she eat pureed fruit with yogurt? try pears if she will eat them. This may help her go to the toilet. Panadol and nurofen always back me up.
Also, have you tried putting her to sleep at the first sign of her being tired, ie before she get overtired?
My DS is a nightmare when he is over tired.....

I have only given her nurofen this morning, I try not to usually but she just seemed so upset and she hates panadol, spits it out when we give it to her LOL.
Also, I do try getting her to sleep at the very first sign of her being tired.... hence the 2.5 hour drama last night trying to get her over, she was fighting it to the end. She also doesn't give us much in the way of tired signs so it's hard.

We're doing BLS so haven't gone down the puree route at all, she won't take anything from a spoon from me. I'll give her some pear slices when she wakes from her nap, see how that works.

You can put anything on a muffin or toast if you did want to give pear or apple. Then bub can still feed themself and my little one will suck the fruit or vegies off the bread.

I've learned 3 things today.

1. It's hot. And that is really bothering DD. She's a really sweaty baby and gets cranky in the heat - she may be Aussie born but she definitely has our Scottish blood. I turned the air con on and she fell asleep within minutes.

WHich leads me to my next discovery:

2. We need to lose the swaddle. She's been fighting *something* the past few days - and it's the past few days that it's also been hot - so tonight I took her wrap off and gave it to her to hold and she settled almost immediately.

3. She's a very fidgety baby, that I have known for a long time. I think I'm just going to have to live with the fact that she needs to do a fair bit of rolling around as her way of settling down. It's hard to watch her do though, as I feel that she is wound really tightly, but tonight she rolled onto her tummy, gave a wee giggle then rolled back, had some more boobie, rolled away again and fell asleep.

Result. Lets just see if those things are actually what's been going on though.

We having another crazy night here. Still not in bed.

DD has only just gone down at around 8.45pm.

Kate, our babies were Soul Sisters or something. Plotting their mischief together before they got here. :)

She was awake between 11pm and 2am this morning. Got no idea what the heck was going on, I had to put her in the sling and rock her back to sleep. Poor wee sausage.

I'm knackered. :crying: DD however is still asleep!
