Announcing it to the world

Hey Ladies :)

Looking for a bit of advice.

As most of you know I am only 4 weeks, VERY early yet.

But .... I really want to tell DD because she has been asking for over a year now for a brother or sister. She is not silly, and will catch on soon. I also feel bad keeping it from her cos I know she'S going to be REALLY excited....

I am a bit nervous about telling her as I dont want to tell anyone until I am at least 3 months, and am a bit afraid of DD telling people out of excitement.

We can tell her not to mention anything, but there is just that fear of her announcing it too soon ...

DP wants to tell her on Christmas Day which is sweet ...

What do you think?

aww that would be a fantastic xmas present for her to find out! Is she old enough to understand not to tell anyone tho? And if your waiting until 3 months to tell others for fear of the worst happening, would she understand if she wasnt getting a little brother or sister after you told her she was? Not trying to be negative, sorry...

I think if it were me and i'd had no previous pregnancy issues and felt good about this one i would tell, it would just make her day! but thats just my thoughts.

DD is 8 (almost 9) and yes she would understand the negative side (one of her teachers last year had a miscarriage :( and the teachers had a bit of a talk with the kids at school about it, and then left it open to us parents to fill in the blanks :) ) But Yeah, she would understand not to mention anything.

I think it would be awesome to tell her Christmas Day, but just wanted another's opinion :)

We told DD (aged 10 at the time) early on when we were expecting our third bub and asked her not to say anything but it was very hard for her and soon the whole town knew anyway as I was showing so early! However, we lost that baby at 11.5 weeks and she had the awful job of telling everyone at school that I had lost the baby. It was very sad. She did handle the news pretty well though.
We are pregnant again and have chosen not to tell anyone, not even DD, for as long as possible. If she asks, as I am starting to show already, I will tell her the truth but til then it's a secret.

My cousin has just found out that she is pg. She told her DD (almost 7) and everyone knew the next day. She suffered a miscarriage the year before last, so she is feeling quite nervous, and praying everything goes smoothly now everyone knows.

I know that your DD has a right to know to before everyone else, but I think waiting at least till the scan (if you are having one) to confirm that all is well before telling your DD. Still a lot earlier than the 3 mnths.

haha! I told DD she is going to be a big sister and she patted my belly at playgroup and said "baby"... I think she's a bit young to know what a secret is though. If you have never had issues and she can keep a secret I'd tell her Christmas day. Can you imagine how stoked she'll be.

My youngest DSD was 8 when her Mum fell pregnant and it kept it a secret from us for ages... her Mum didn't even tell her to keep it a secret, but her aunty had a m/c in the past so she 'got it'

I think telling your DD on christmas day would be an awesome chrissy present. Maybe sit her down and tell her that you want to keep it between the three of you JUST incase something happens. And maybe tell her if she keeps it quiet that when the time comes she can be the one who tells everyone. Just a thought :) :)

I say tell her on chrissy day, what an exciting announcement for her! She will be thrilled. Besides no point in holding back for the 'just in case', I think its important to keep positive and this is one way of doing that. All the best

You should tape her so you can see her reaction. Bet it would be super cute. I told my eldest DD9 and she kept it secret as I didn't want her genetic father to know. I'm now 23weeks and she told me her teacher asked her only a few days ago if I was pregnant and she didn't know what to say (it was obvious but she didn't want to lie and say no) I didn't think she would take it on board for so long to be a secret lol Bless her. Little DD4 on the other hand told everyone on Skype that mum was having another baby and when they asked she said in 30minutes!

Congratulations hun wonderful news.
At the end of the day its your decision, your DD and you know her better than anyone. If it were me, i wouldn't say anything JIC BUT when it comes time for your 12/13 week scan I would take DD along and surprise her by letting her SEE the baby .. :D

Just thought I would let you all know we told DD (8yo) last night when we came home :)

Her reaction was :o OMG!!! she layed back on the lounge in shock covering her face saying 'OMG I THINK IM GONNA CRY!!!!'

She then ran up to me, hugged me and looked at my belly rubbed it and said 'Hello baby!!' Too cute!

All day she has been talking the baby, telling him/her what shes doing (like jumping on the trampoline) telling him/her whats she's eating etc :lol:

Its funny but I cant help being excited from her excitement!

Oh I also told her shes going to make a GREAT big sister ... she says calmly 'Oh i know" :lol: SO modest!
