Hi all,
After opinions on these two names, Ivie or (Ivy) or India for a little girl, we have a daughter already named Lily.
Thanks in advance for your help!!
I LOVE Ivy as a girls name, if only my DH would of let me use it, maybe if I have another girl it could be her middle name.
India.
We wanted to name ds1 India Lily had he been a girl.
Both DH and I really like both names, but Dh is worried Ivy will sound like a porn star name, I personally can't see it myself. Thoughts????
We also love India, but once again worried it might be a little too different? I want something a bit different though.
India Lily is very pretty!!!! I like India Rose, but think if we go with India we mightn't have a middle name.
I like Ivie, though spelt Ivy. Though if you prefer India, I don't think it's really that different.
If you go for India be prepared for it to be shortened to Indi.
Some of the old fashioned names are coming back so Ivy will fit in well.
Know nothing about the use of the name for porn, just remember any name you choose you make it your own regardless who else has it
I LOVE Ivy!!!!!
I love Ivy too!!!
I don't know what porn your hubby is watching, but i don't think Ivy is at all a porn start name! I think it is gorgeous. :) I don't like Ivie much though.
I know a few India's, it's not too out there, and a lovely name.
I don't like Ivie, she will spend her whole life correcting people's spelling of it. Ivy is lovely though, but I prefer India because I love Gone With The Wind and would have chosen that name if I had lots of girls.
Both are very beautiful names. I like India but there are so many Indi's about these days that it makes me prefer Ivy, so feminine! :)
I love India Rose - that's so beautiful.
Traveller - is there an India in Gone with the Wind? I don't recall who that was.
I love India. That was going to be DS' name if he was a girl. I particularly love the NN Indie....and I hate names being shortened.
There was also a Carreen (Caroline) Ellen, Honey, Dilcey, Prissy and Euginie Victoria, but I like Melanie (my name) and Scarlett (my daughter's name) the best :D Sorry to hijack, I still like India :)
I don't know whether it's being late at night but when i read Ivie i was pronoucing it to myself as Evie :shhh:
I think Ivy and Lily for some reason look alike, must be that both have an 'i' and a 'y' in each short name.
India does sound pretty with Lily :D
Don't like Ivie, looks totally odd.
Love Ivy (DH vetoed it here too lol)
But I wouldn't have an Ivy and a Lily, just me, but I would then be wondering if you had a son would you name him Lief... lol
I really love India, also, (Also a GWTW fan here!) so would choose it over Ivy for the above reason.
GL!
I love both!! But don't stuff around with the spelling of 'Ivy', it only complicates things and is pointless IMO.
Thanks everyone for your response. It is amazing when you actually write the name, Ivie has put me off, I love Ivy!!! And I must say I normally don't like nn either, but there is something about Indie that we love. It's a hard one, I am just stuck on both names!!!!
There was one other hanging around we have been thinking of and that's Viola????
Another vote of Ivy. Not a fan of Viola though.
lol No to Viola, again due to the flower name thing, sorry! Just me though I am sure.
Definitely prefer India/Indi over Ivy. Not a huge fan of Viola think Violet is lovely though.
I dont think there is a problem using 2 flower names. I know a family with a Lily, Maggie and Violet, so it doesn't mean you have to stick to a trend if you have more kids.
Id only thought of viola as an instrument.
Still prefer India or even Indah
Another Ivy fan here. Although with a daughter named Lily I can't help but hear Rose McGowan in Jawbreaker "A fern is a plant and, I don't know about you, but I'd much rather be a flower."
And no to Viola (I thought instrument too). I prefer Violet.
I also think India is a pretty name. Then someone mentioned Gone With the Wind and India Wilkes was such a spiteful, gossipy character. Didn't like her at all.
Sorry, I probably haven't been much help at all. Ivy is my fave.
