close carrier - comfort
I'm pretty sure I'm putting it on right, but it's quite uncomfortable to wear for very long. DD is only 4.5kg - I was hoping to use the CC for the first few months at least but it's hurting my back already.
Is there a trick to it? Maybe doing something wrong?
-
I find that the diamond at the back where the fabric joins needs to be right in the small of my back. Sometimes it creeps up to my shoulders and then it starts hurting. Also the fabric needs to be quite wide on my shoulders.
-
As fionaw said if fabric not wide across shoulders it hurts.. Takes some fidling when you put on once on right should be comfy.
-
Yup fiona is right. Make sure the diamond is towards the lower part of your back, rather than the middle or upper back.
And I always had the shoulder fabric quite wide too :)
-
I could never get comfortable with my close carrier. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get the diamond to sit low enough, and DS would sag really low in it and he wasn't comfortable either. The instructional dvd had the babies sitting high up, but I just couldn't achieve it.
-
thanks - will try and get the diamond down lower
-
for me the trick was definitely having the diamond right down lower, and having it quite snug before I even put her in. If she sat too low in it it really put pressure on my back, but keeping her up higher was comfy. The trick was having it quite snug when I put it on. Good luck!

I can grab my Tyion wrap sling back from a friend who has finished using it, if you would like to give a different style sling a try? Let me know.
-
I have to wear my baby up quite high for it to be comfy for really long periods. I agree with putting it on quite tight too cause i find that once dd is in it its harder to get tight enough - and wear it wide :)
-
I've found when it was too low or I didn't have it right it really did get uncomfy and painful, but I didn't think to have it done up tighter to start with, I tended to make it loser then tighten it :wall: will definitely try that next time. I am paying for a nasty sore shoulder from yesterday after having DD in the Bubba Sling and that wasn't right, felt ok when i was waring it but after Oh Crap it hurts, so I'll be putting that away until she can side sit :)
-
Aaaaahhh.... I've had the diamond high too. Wondered why it was uncomfy!
-
Now that I think back (how we forget!) I remember now that it did have to be quite tight before bub went in. Otherwise I could never get it tight enough for him to be high up.
-
Ditto, Honeybee. Thanks for the post MadB, I'll have one more crack at it before it is 'retired'.
-
Thanks again all, but I just can't get it to work. She's up high and firm, with straps spread wide, but I can't get the diamond low on my back without the rings comign right round under her :dunno:
I've reverted to the hug-a-bub.
-
I also stopped with the CC because of that. I personally didn't like the HAB so bought a wrap and an Ergo and use them interchangeably.
-
I have an ergo for when she's bigger :)
-
Can you move the rings up the sling so they sit closer to your body? I've always had them tucked into my sides
-
And wanted to add - I watched the CC instruction DVD to make sure I was using it right and still had discomfort. At one point it looked as though one my discs was bulging in my back after using the CC :(
-
Prob a bit late now because you're you seem 'carriered-up' but a cat bird baby pikkolo is an awesome hybrid. It's more structured like an ergo but the bit that goes between babies legs can be gathered in for tiny babies. It has the waist support like an ergo, although not as padded. I had a hab, and an ergo, but the pikkolo is my fave.
-
Are you really skinny? or short?
-
I have a really short waist, do you think that might be why?
pikkolo... hmmm...
-
I am short too and narrow across the back and find the pikkolo the most comfy for me...you can use it from newborn with baby in the froggy legged position...Connor loved it! Now he is bigger I either use the pikkolo or the Babyhawk Oh Snap for him.......
-
It's probably too big for you? Sounds like it....
I can't remember if you have a sling - I have a lovely ellaroo sling if you want to try using that?
-
A completely spat it in the CC today, I got the positioning right but she screamed Spotlight down, fell asleep, then woke up and screamed until I took her out, she hates it when I adjust the rings, I can't seem to get it firm enough either...
