I'm wondering what made others decide to find out the sex of bub at the 20 week scan?
we didn't find out with DS and we wanted the surprise at his birth and it was great!
I thought I was carrying a boy and I was Right lol
I'm wondering, do I want to find out this time!
Incase it's a girl then I can prepare better, since having a toddler I won't be able to just browse the shops after bub is born.....like I did for DS......

I didn't find out with my first 3 babies but for some reason with my last we decided why not! We didn't at the 20 week scan tho we had a check up scan at 32 weeks and just decided to,
Personally I would have prefered the surprise but it was cool finding out.. I love the whole guessing game of pregnancy. makes the weeks pass faster :lo:
I have only found out with this baby, never with any of my others. My reasoning was that if I am to have a boy, I really need to start shopping for boy clothes. At the morphology scan we asked to find out the gender and the baby was in a difficult position as well as the cord being in the way, so we didn't get a definite answer. We asked again at the 3d/4d scan and it was pretty much the same thing. I had a growth scan done at 32 weeks where we could see more clearly but in my mind I am not 100% sure so I have not bought anything in pink or blue... I've bought some of each!
I have 15 days to go and I figure I will find out then! I love shopping after the bub arrives.
Im a control and organisation freak and needed to know so i could get everything done lol
Just being honest.
We have two boys already but have had to purchase everything all over again and white can be very limiting and I dislike yellow. We knew we wouldn't have the money when the baby was born and we suck at saving so decided that for us it was best to know....
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it lol
DH is very impatient with surprises. With our first pregnancy I would've been happy to be surprised. It ended in miscarriage and when I got pregnant with DD I felt detached so finding out the sex helped me to feel bonded with her. It was just as well. DH had his heart set on a boy and it gave him a chance to get his head around the fact that we were having a girl.
I wouldn't buy just pink or blue for either sex, so buying stuff isn't an important reason for me. Not knowing gives you a chance to be a bit less restrictive in your colour choices- you will prob be given enough blue or pink when bub gets here anyway. My bub wore heaps of funky clothes when she was little, rainbow coloured, grey with stars, greens, purples, orange, blues. Of my fav newborn clothes, none are gender specific
We found out because I wanted everything to be gender specific. So pink stuff for a girl n blue for a boy. I'm not really into neutral colours or green, yellow n purple on babies. Lol. And I am OCD with organising things so I had to know so I could plan and organise her nursery...
And last reason was that I wanted a girl, dh wanted a boy... We found out at 20 weeks ao there was no chance of even a split second of disappointment at birth...

I suffered gender disappointment when I found out DS was to be our fourth son so I wanted to prepare myself as I knew those feelings would be back if number five was another boy.
The last two are the only ones I found out the sex with but in saying that if we were to have an "oops" now I wouldnt want to know. Well I say that now because I do love the surprise factor but then again the control freak in me might take over.

DH is like a kid at christmas and couldnt possibly wait till the birth to find out so we found out with both but didnt tell anyone else with our first with this one we have told a few people.
i had a really bad pregnancy, especially with ds, and was feeling very depressed etc; i made the choice to find out his gender so that i could bond better prenatally. i found it worked for me, and by the time he got here, i was already completely obsessed with him. we asked at dd's 20 week scan, and they weren't sure, my obgyn did a couple of ultrasounds, cause she liked to put herself in weird positions, and said 'i can't be sure, but i certainly don't see anything dangling'. i always thought she was a girl anyway..

I have always said I'd find out the sex of any kids I might have. I like to be prepared, not just with clothes and things but emotionally/mentally too. I like to know what is going on so not knowing the sex would really stress me out!
We also felt we able to bond with Moo before he was born, calling him by his name and referring to him as he instead of it.
Where I live I found there weren't many unisex colours in clothes and bedding etc so it would've been difficult to get his nursery ready.
People kept saying we'd ruined our surprise and the birth day wouldn't be as exciting! I just said that we're having a baby and it's going to be exciting regardless :D
You have to do what feels right for you, good luck with your decision!
I didn't find out with my DS, so bought both for boy or girl, once he was here though I realised I had gotten way too much for a girl & not enough for him. So for DD I wanted to be prepared better & now for this bubba, Being a surprise pregnancy, we really couldn't afford to be buying everything again so needed to know in advance with time to prepare incase it was a boy. Luckily she is another girl & don't need much extra stuff!
I also like having my babies names picked out early & talk to bub by his/her name before she is born ITMS?
I found out with all three of mine. It helped me bond with my bubs during pg. I am also a control freak and I couldn't stand the thought that the sonographer knew what my baby was and I didn't! I don't particularly like surprises - it's that control freak thing again!! I never regretted finding out.
We kept the gender a secret from everyone with both of my DD's, which was actually kind of fun - for us anyway! And it was nice for DH and I to share a secret. My DS was diagnosed with health problems at the 20wk scan and we were told he might not survive. We told everyone he was a boy - the gender was just so utterly unimportant in comparison to his health!
I wanted to find out this time, as it still troubles me that we dont know whether we lost a son or daughter when I mc'd :(. Dont mean to be a downer but the fact that our first bub will always be 'bub' or 'it' really pains me. Otherwise I dont know if we wouldve found out this time.
Thats me! The technology is there, why not find out? They can still be wrong anyway, but at least you can decide on names and themes easier if you know what ur having :-):
I just wanted too, and i will be finding out with this one too! Its still exciting :-)

I didn't find our with my first 2 boys. With my 3rd pregnancy we chose to find out as I was worried about gender dissapointment.
As you can see we did in fact have another boy, I found it helpful as I dealt with my dissapointment at not having a girl and was able to bond with him. We however chose not to tell anyone so for everyone else it was still a surprise.
If I have a 4th (which I'm hoping for) I really don't know what to do, as I must say I much prefer the surprise of not knowing, but if it was to be another boy I would hate my inital reaction at the birth to be slight dissapointment.

I found out because I can't handle waiting that long, lol. We will be finding out for this one too, just in case it's a girl then we have to do some major shopping after having 5 boys.
I would have been happy to wait for a surprise, but we found out because DH was absolutely set on having a boy, and I knew if bubs turned out to be a girl he would have been disappointed and needed as much time as possible to come to terms with it. But bubs is a boy, so for a few weeks I had to listen to "I KNEW it! I TOLD you he was a boy! Gee I'm good!" :lol:
And I dont regret finding out at all. Its been so much more fun being able to plan his room, and its really helped us bond with him.
We havent told anyone IRL though what his sex is, we're keeping it a surprise from everybody. Its so awesome having this secret that nobody knows lol
We found out with DD1 because im a control freak and like to be organised for everything :lol: We found out with this one for same reasons but also if it was a boy i would've been on to selling all DD's clothes so i could start buying boy stuff. but its another a little princess so all good here :D
we had always planned on finding out with Katy but the world had other plans for us
with Jack I needed to know I dont think I could have handled if he had been a girl I was scared he was going to be a girl even though all along I felt he was aboy, Jase left the room and I found out, told no-one
with Luke we didn't find out, and I knew he was aboy gut instinct we were still discussing names as I as being prepped for c-sect I said why are we discussing its a boy LOL
We found out at the 20 week scan with DD and we loved knowing we were expecting a baby girl and noone else knew!!!! We kept it a secret but it was hard keeping it a secret at times!! :lol: but we did well.
DH really wanted to know so he could get his head around it all, just knowing what it was would help him bond in 'his' way.....so I let him.
I must say, knowing the sex, definitely helped me with bonding with the baby too!!! It really did.
But this time around I said I didn't want to know, want a surprise this time and he agreed that was fair. So yeah, we are waiting til the birth!! :cheer:
I am glad we will have experienced it both ways....
I didn't find out for the first two...I was quite happy for it to be a surprise. :D
But I found out for the other 5...for several reasons:
- So we could name bub and the other kids would know them by name and maybe bond a bit before birth.
- So I could get organised rooms, clothing, bedding etc.
- Because the older I got the more impatient I got :lol:
i had to find out with all of mine, there is no way i could last the full 40 weeks not knowing!
we have enough trouble deciding on one name, let alone one for a boy and one for a girl. i did have recurrent dreams with dd tho that they told me the wrong thing at the scan, i panicked and spent the last 2 weeks running arround getting green, yellow and white clothes as in my dream we had a beautifull little boy, and nothing but girls clothes for him! i never ended up using any of them tho!
DH and I have always said we wouldnt find out and have a surprise. it doesnt bother us either way, and i'm so easy going and laid back i'd prob just dress my boy in pink and vise versa if thats how it happened and it wouldn't bother me. DH didn't findout out with his last 3 children, and they even picked names that could be unisex, (which strangly worked out perfect that the more boy name was a boy and for the next kid the more girl name was a girl..)
I think if i had twins, i would want to know if they were the same or different...but still wouldnt want to know what, itms.
well i had it both ways without a choice with DS he had his legs wide open so we could see the lot we were so happy coz we wanted a boy with DD we couldnt see coz she had the cord in between her legs and i was so annoyed that i couldnt find out i had a feeling she was a girl but i couldnt say it out loud but everyone else said girl but when she was born DH almost had a heart attack he thought she was a boy but the cord was still around her leg cheeky girl lol the reason i wanted to know is coz i like to be organised

with my 1st two Ds's i never found out and my x MIL wanted to know but hahhaha he had his back turned and would never let her see LMAO (sucked in) anyways i knew they were boys somehpow i found myself buying all blue without realising it till i set up the room and same with my 2nd ds..
with ds3 i knew he was a boy cause with all pregnancies i would eat ot of ice so i knew but dh wanted to know cause he actually wanted a girl..
and with dd i found out cause i was over suprises and thyis time dh didnt want to know lol
with dd i had the same as you boobaloo!! she was always sitting down in that position and would take ages for any scan till the nurse jiggled her lol

We had alot of pressure NOT to find out, mainly from DHs side. We didn't find out with DS, and despite all the anticipation and surprise, it really wasn't much of a surprise for me (like, it was going to be a boy or a girl right? There are not that many other options ;))
So this time I was definite that I wanted to know. I was a little bit disappointed at first, but then I would have been disappointed (slightly) either way, as whatever we got meant we wouldn't have the other (does that make sense?). Now I am so happy we found out, it really does help me bond with him and prepare DS for a baby brother as he is adament he is having a sister.
All the best with whatever you decide. Either way it is a surprise, one you just get earlier, and the other you get when you have the baby!
yeah I agree, either way it's still a surprise! DS keeps telling me its a girl too..... Maybe I'll find out for him :)
I found out for all three of my pregnany's and DH didn't know for any of them. I like to know what is going on and curiosity gets the better of me, I also read the last few pages of a book before I finish one. I am impatient :lol:
Out of everyone we knew having babies we were the only ones who waited to find out, I LOVED it!
There was just that little extra something about the birth and getting to find out.
But if we have a 3rd I'm undecided on finding out or waiting so I'm probably not much help lol.
I also like to be super organised and have everything ready to go.. In saying that I won't be finding out with my next one. Just for that extra surprise! :)
Because where I live is so limited with super cute baby clothes and nursery equiptment I wanted to find out. I made a trip to Melbourne (home) with an empty suitcase at about 6 months UTD and went crazy at the baby shops! I'm going to find out with this one too because I really think it's a boy and I only have really girly stuff! I'll have to get cot sheets and such so he doesn't get stuck with hot pink and fairies :lol:
I wanted to have a surprise with DD but i had this overwhelming feeling that i was carrying a girl. Then when i got closer to 20 weeks i had people saying it was a boy as i was carrying all out the front so it was i had to prove them wrong!
I will find out with our next one, and if its a boy and we choose to have anymore i will leave it as a surprise as we would have both.

idiotic specialist who did the amniocentesis, after being told by me that i didn't want to know the gender - handed me a page of results, all the pairs of chromosomes etc.
bit hard to miss the XX.
not happy jan, i was planning on finding out when bilby arrived.
i hear you on the "not going shopping" after baby has arrived angle. i did stacks of opshopping for sizes 0000 to 2 whilst pregnant (and lucky i did, cos bilby's delivery was "very eventful" to put it politely.
keep price tags and receipts for baby stuff you buy, so at a pinch, you can get refunds/exchanges.
there is alot of neutral unisex stuff and things that don't really matter. or get white things, to dye, as soon as you find out.
you'll get stuff given to you when baby is born too, i didn't account for that as i didn't have a baby shower.
You could do "research" now, take photos and details of what you like, so if you want them later, you have already done the hard yards. You could give photo and details to a helpful dh/relative/friend and they go off and get it for you.
