I know many people don't agree but I think the younger the better (if you want to do them). I had my girls done at 9 and 6 weeks. They both healed fine and have had no issues at all. Both didn't even notice that they were in and they never got infected or red (after the first redness subsided). My 4 year old loves hers but doesn't play with them as they have always been there iykwim?
You can also use emla cream to numb if you want to. Also both my girls cried for less than a minute after it was done.
thats what i thought the younger the better i would love to do it now so that way she isnt bothered with them and fiddle farting around with them lol
but when i told someone today they looked at me like i was an idiot lol like i hadnt heard the latest news...
thats why i thought did i miss something?
I *think* its 6months
Personally I think when they are old enough to ask for it and understand the up keep etc but whatever works for you :)
LOL, a similar thread caused quite a debate a little while ago, https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...d.php?t=149055 have a read if you have time. got a bit controversial at times!
Its a personal thing.
Some people like waiting til your child can ask etc.
DD1 asked from 12mths and got them done just after 2...
Each to their own
It's definantly a personal choice :)
I had dd ear's done when she was 3 months old ( almost 9 years ago), she hardly even cried!! she cried more with her 2 month old needles ( poor little thing)
It was really good, they never got infected and she couldnt touch them, so they healed real quickly :)
all the best with whatever decision you make :)
most places won't do them til 6 months, but if you can find someone of european background (spanish etc), because it is "normal" over there to pierce ears at birth (well, not quite, but VERY young) they are more comfortable with it. We got DD's done at 12 weeks and have never had an issue with them
I do & don't want to get my DD ears pierced, she is 6mths old. I do cos then it's done, less chance of her fiddling with them and chances of her getting them done later at fairly high anyway. I also don't cos I don't want to cause her unnecessary pain or discomfort and I can't handle her crying when she gets her needles let alone having her ears pierced. It's a tough call.
I got DD's done at 18 months, please place i got them done will not do them before 18 months to give the lobes plenty of time to grow otherwise the earrings can sit too far back or too far forward.
DD didnt cry at all, but then again she never did with her needles either.
Good luck with whatever you decide, if this baby is a girl I will probably wait until she is 18 months too because DD loved having them pierced and she didnt play with them too much, we made a game out of putting the antiseptic on them :)
I had Peppars done about 2 months ago now and havent had any issues with them at all.
We did have the cream put on just before they were done and she only cried for a few seconds with the 2nd one and that was only because the girl had to hold her head still.
She was too busy looking around to see where the click had come from a few minutes before.:p
She does pull at them sometimes but no more than she would pull at her ears normally. I had them pierced with plastic nickel free earrings with little pink crystals, soooooo cute.
The butterflies snap on too and cant be squeezed further together as they have stoppers on them. Hard to explain I know but they are specifically for little ears
Good luck I love her little pierced ears and although I have had some disapproving
looks I dont care.
thanks ladies, very interesting...
im wanting them done now so that way she will barely know they are there.. my mum said she had mine done at 6 weeks as for my sister also..
i dont know i guess i hhave to research it abit further..
I wish I had done DD quite early.... Now I guess it will have to wait till she is closer to 2.
I had mine done when I was 2 with no issues.

I took DD the day she turned 6 months. I took her to a peircing place and that was their minimum age limit. I guess there may be differences.
She screamed (but she also screamed for her needles the day before) and a little bit of after care with the antiseptic spray and she's barely noticed them.
I don't regret getting it done at that age AT ALL!
:)
i got dd's done at 8 or 9 months at ella bache, and we've had no problems with them at all.
Someone i know had her girls done at around 8weeks... to help tell them apart
I think it is fine - before the start moving, grabbing, touching etc!
I got my first dd done at 2 months...she was great with them and they never bothered her.
My two younger girls are 2 and 3 and I would like to get theirs done soon.
I wish mum had got mine day when I was a baby baby. She got them done when I was three, and very aware of them and pain! They got infected and had to come out.
Got them done again when I was ten, but again, had to come out as they were getting infected. Didnt help that I played alot of sport and because I couldn't take them out they were always taped with masking tape.
Got them done again when I was 20 and thankfully they've been all good! Third time the charm.
I say do your daughter a favour and do them as early as you can. It's easy to take them out if she decides she hates them later.
Ive seen people say you should wait til they're aware of the upkeep involved. But srsly. What upkeep? With proper care they're healed in two weeks, and that's it. You don't have to worry about them ever again!
I got DD1s done at 7 weeks and DD2s at 4 months and so glad I got it done early.
DD1 has just started to want to put different earings in, its so cute watching her pick out some new ones :)
No idea what the policy at hairdressers is but a friend got her baby's done and she went to the chemist first and got some cream that numbs the earlobes to help with the pain. I didn't know such a cream existed but thought it was a great tip and worth passing it on.
This thread has some great info.
Thanks for the info on creams.
Can't wait to get my DD's done :)

I had DD done when she was about 3 or 4 mths old. Never had any problems with them. I'm going to get DD2's done early as well. I think the cream is called elma gel? it's quite expensive (but worth it) I think I paid around $15 for a teeny tiny little tube.
We waited til Erica was old enough to understand and ask to get them done she was 4 1/2.
thanks ladies, well i guess im going to get them done now i discussed it with dh and he agreed that i should get them over and done with now, he just thinks it will be alot easier on her and as you've all said she wont play with them a great deal and they will heal...
thing is now i have to find a place that will do them now lol
anyone know anywhere in sydney (from blacktown to bankstown area) that wil do them? lol :)
I got DD1's done when she was 12 months old, they told me then that the best time to get them done was around 3 months coz most bub's aren't rolling etc then. I got DD2 done at 3 months and DD3 done at 4 and a half months. I used the emla gel on all 3 girls and I have never had any dramas with them. The place I got my girls done had 2 piercing guns so both their ears were done at the same time. They all only cried for about 15 seconds and the staff (I got them done at a chemist) said that because they had the emla gel on they were most likely crying from the noise of the gun.
well just an update i got Dd's ear peirced today :)
she cried for literally 2 secs and she looks so cute...
i know some people wont agree with it but im glad i did it now and that she will grow without realising they are there..
but im so happy :)
Personal choice but we don't pierce til 5! yep 5 years old! Reasons - ear lobes will grow a bit til age 5 and the number of kids I have seen with really uneven piercing's that have to be redone is appaling! Also I have seen a 12 month old who ripped her out...not pretty....
I do like the idea of them being young and not remembering the pain!
For us its a 2 fold one - we know they could end up uneven and two I am not wanting to deal with some irate mother telling me I pierced them uneven!
Just my two cents worth!
No, all good joeve!!
everyone has their own reasons and i agree on the uneven side too.. when my mum did mine they did them to close to my face so i get what your saying.. but i did them so that they arent to close, i also got her to measure from the lobe up to make sure they where both the same distance from the lobes to the piercing..
I get what your saying and respect your choices too...:)
My daughter who turns 7 in two months just got hers done about a month ago, and it was really easy. She didn't flinch, or cry, and was just excited about the whole thing, and is more strict about looking after them and remembering to twist them and apply the antiseptic stuff than I am! I was glad we waited because it was kind of one of those special "growing up" moments we got to do together as a Mum & Daughter, and it made her feel really important.
That being said, I had been offering to get them done for her since she was about 3.5, but she wanted to wait. I know from experience as a Hairdresser piercing ears, that I found it sooooo hard to do them on bubbas, but really it is just a quick second or two of pain, just like immunisations. See if you can find somewhere that will do both ears at once.
Yeah I got them done at my beautician today and this lady has been my beautician for 6 yrs so she knew I would be all narky on the straightness and etc..
They actually ( her and her mum) did it at the same time so it was nice and quick
She actually has been quiet good she sleeps on them and etc I thought maybe it would be worse...
LOL @ zavara really? I'm gonna go have a little sticky beak lol
I had DD2's done a few weeks back :D
