How long after birth did you DTD if you had a tear?

No one told me how long to wait or anything??

I had a second degree tear and stitches. I had pain for about 5 days and it has felt ok since then but I could still feel stitches there until about 2 weeks after her birth. Now I think the stitches are gone and it all feels perfectly normal down there. But is it really all healed?? Is it too soon to DTD?

I am probably crazy for even thinking about it already, lol, I don't think we DTD after DD1 until 7 weeks! But just want to know, should I wait longer?

it has been 8 weeks,but i probably was physically ok a few weeks ago (maybe 3-4 weeks post baby), but just totally not in the mood lol ..and a little big scared

i've heard the whole waiting for 6 weeks thing is a myth. really i think it is up to you and how you're feeling. if you feel fine and not sure, and are okay with DTD, then i guess its up to you. it's your body...i think with DD i waited around the 6 week mark? can't remember....but that was coz i didn't feel comfortable before that though. from what i looked up online, i think they say after 2 or 3 weeks is fine, and when you're comfortable with it. all the best :)

I had a 2nd degree tear and six stitches. I tried 6 weeks pp.... It hurt

At 8 weeks tried again, a little better but uncomfortable, my stitches didn't dissolve either.... Had to be removed 3 months pp

2nd deg tear here too with 4 stitches. We DTD a few weeks ago, about 5wks PP. It felt ok, depending on the position. Now it's ok at almost 8wks PP, still a little tender at times but mostly fine.

They tell you 6 weeks or when you are comfortable and want to.

Just remember LUBE is your best friend, especially if you are BF you will most likely be dry and if you dont use lube it will hurt!! Go slow and see how you go!! Enjoy

I had heaps of stitches (too many to count I was told :lol:) after a 3rd degree tear and we waited 8 weeks before DTD..... even then, it felt really uncomfortable and very sore/tender and felt really dry (breastfeeding doesn't help that!)..... we waited again couple of weeks after that and each time we DTD it seemed to get better and better but honestly? It took a good 5mths before it felt 'normal' again as if I hadn't given birth.

Use LOTS of lube :lol:

Normally dissolvable stitches can take up to 60 days to disolve, mine took abit longer then that and I had about 30 stitches. I waited till about 9 weeks after DD1 and about 7 weeks after DD2. I just found that the position we DTD was what mattered, some positions hurt and some did not.

I had a tear and stitches, and we dtd at 4 weeks...

I had a tear with DS number 3 and we tried to DTD at about 4 weeks I think it was but it hurt ...................... HIM! hahahahhaaha
Apparently I had some sharp stitches that were a bit uncomfortable for him the poor thing :lol::lol:

Just take your time and if you feel ready then thats a big hurdle you have already overcome. And yes LUBE LUBE LUBE girlfriend it is your new BFF

I had an anterior lip tear (up near the urethra than in the perineum) and had between 7-10 stitches that dissolved around 3 weeks later

We DTD about 3.5 weeks after birth and had no pain, and have DTD another twice since then again with no pain.

For us it was 6 ish weeks... It hurt and I had to stay shallow, it only worked with me on top controlling the speed/depth etc (sorry if TMI!) and we are using condoms because I am not risking even the slightest chance of getting pregnant again yet! LOL...

I had 2nd degree tearing on my labia so it was pretty sore from friction but I enjoyed it near the end. Use a CRAP load of lube and if you are using condoms I found the BEST condoms that feel almost like nothing is on, none of that rubbery pulling feeling. They are the Ansell Skyn latex free ones! Black box, gold writing from Woolies.. I am SOOOO glad I found them cause the first 2 times with normal condoms felt uncomfy mainly cause of the rubber pulling on my scar!!

Go with how you feel. If you feel ready then don't let anything stop you. I was told by my mum to do it before my 6 week check up so if there is something not right then you can bring it up.

I didnt tear but had an episiotomy, and it was 4 weeks until we DTD. I wanted to do it sooner but I wanted to make sure the scar had healed properly as one end was taking a little longer to heal completely. It was a little bit painful but after a few minutes fine. It's like that still now (we've DTD twice more) but the discomfort goes quicker. Certain positions are off limits though for the time being as it hurts a little too much. It doesnt hurt "in there", I think the scar is a little tender still.

I'd just go with how you feel. Take it slow to start with and if you need to stop, you need to. And yep stock up with lube for the first time. As well as helping dryness, I found it made things a lot easier as I pretty tense lol.

6 months! But I had 4th degree tears, so lots of internal stitches. I was so traumatised about what had happened to me 'down there' I didnt even want to think about it until then. It took me until about 1 year after to actually stop hurting and to start enjoying it again.

I had some small tears/grazing with my last DS...and I was feeling great straight after the birth and had minimal swelling/no pain etc. So about 2 weeks later I was ready to go...but we discovered my body wasn't :D DS was 9lbs9.5oz and the doc and my physio said his size would have just stretched the muscles right out and they hadn't had time to retract properly and recover - it was like a cavern in there and not enjoyable for either of us. However, within another 2 or 3 weeks we were fine, and apparently the muscles were...tighter...than usual, too. Which I was rather relieved about - I was beginning to think I was stretched beyond repair! LOL

There is no magic number. It is when you 'feel' recovered enough to take that step. Just take things slowly, see how it goes and be prepared to stop if it is painful (because you don't want to reopen the wound).


Personally I had bad third degree tearing (too many stitches - internal and external - to count) with my first and I was healed enough until the 6month mark (and the area was still sore and tender until the 12month mark).

5 months.....with DD#1 like Soph28 i had 4 deg tears and the thought of anything going near that region scared the jeepers outta me...DH felt the same LOL...

I'm ready to try now (2wks pp) but I'm scared and the pp loss is all over the place (sometimes light/ sometimes heavy, sometimes normal) worried too that will make it worse... (my previous post was for when we had DS)

Ok, well 6 weeks for me :D and didn't hurt at all :hooray:

I was rather randomly talking about this with my GP the other day and she said at the 6 week check up many of her first time mums are like 'yeah whatever, don't think thats a huge concern now' when they have the contraception chat, but the second time mums are MUCH more likely to think it is relevant! So it is quite possible that you are more comfortable earlier second time around. Woo hoo for not hurting :)

my BFF had an episiotomy and she couldnt sit properly till about 12 weeks post birth. it all depends on the person hun

I had a 3rd degree tear and needed to have surgery straight after birth. We didn't dtd til 10 weeks pp we did try beforehand but it hurt way to much. I still sometimes find sex uncomfortable to begin with now
