What's your favourite Aldi product?

I love the $2 Dishwasher powder. It's cheap and washes the dishes just as well as Finish, I've also found I don't need as much of it. I'd never buy any other brand now.

Toilet paper! I love thier TP, it's a bargain!!

I've recently discovered their washing powder, it's around $6 for 3kg. Such a bargain and washes the clothes well. PLUS it doesn't give me Eczema! BONUS!

The shampoo is great as well, i think it's around $2.

We do all our shopping at Aldi, it's great! I love their Melting Moments biscuits, mmmm...and their honey soy chips *drool* Too many other products to name! But I do love their shampoo, bread, sliced meat (for sangas), and heaps more :D

Oh the Melting moments are divine.
Cafe Fruit loaf is fantastic.
I happily use the sensitve washing powder and soaker.
Plain and seaweed rice crackers are additive free (well the last I checked, so double check yourself)

Tinks: I will try the powder. Their dw tabs aren't that great.

We like:

The toilet paper, baby wipes, fruit juice (boxes and 2L), yoghurt, wholemeal bread, hot cross buns, butter, milk, vanilla ice-cream,

party pies these need their own line $3.99 for 24 and they are yum-o

I don't find their meat to be that cheap, but fruit and veg can be although it's hit and miss at our local one with quality and availability.

Bread, ice cream (esp the raspberry and white choc. It's awesome!), chocolate, pasta, pasta sauce, greek yogurt, thier specials can be fab - we got a train set with table for $70 just before christmas. The same one at a toy store was around $120.

Oh and the Jaffa cakes!!

I avoid Aldi all year except when the ski gear sale is on and then I buy the socks - they are fantastic.

The aldi washing powder - there was a thread on here about it breaking washing machines. I'll have a look for it.

I love their apricot fruit bars! They have heaps more of the pureed fruit in them than any others you buy at coles or woolies :D

Apart from that the groceries don't really excite me. I do like the random non food stuff they sell each week though. Got my nappy bag from there, people always comment on it and ask where I got it.

The horse riding breeches they had about 4 years ago! They are fantastic, get a lot of wear and the sticky-bum is still intact, unlike those of other brands (at over $100) bought by friends much, much later...and they were $40!
As for regular items, I always pick up the cheese, tissues and pancetta. Oh, and dog food rolls.
That Santiago beer is just delicious, too!

Nope :( she said there is no plan to bring Aldi this far up, the only go as far as Bundy.

DH thinks it would be too costly for them, its not justa store they would have to open but distribution etc. Which I guess I get. If its going to cost them more to bring their product here then they would need to increase their prices which in turn isn't what aldi is about :(

They have a 'catchment' criteria, and I'm not sure who does the research to determine how many people will use the new stores. We have some around us...but by 'around', I mean they are roughly about 30kms away! I've asked a rello (on the 'inside' of development) and she said the nearest large town to me apparently doesn't qualify, though she's questioned it. I told her that if they built one, people who make the trek to the other ones further away would use the new one and the others would not suffer in income from that diversion. So, we'll see, but it's not looking likely.

Well tell her that I think Cairns & its lower income families would LOVE aldi & it would thrive here. Hell just with my family of 7, we would make it worth their while LOL

We have 4 within 35km of each other. That sux that there isn't one in cairns :(

Nappies!! We used the newborn nappies after using 2 full boxes of huggies (cause Aldi are a little bit bigger so perfect for when they are too big for huggies and too small for the next size up) and now she is in the 4-8kg ones. She rarely leaks out of them unless it is a MASSIVE poonami or something, even overnight going like 8-9hrs without a change...

The wipes are awesome too! And so cheap!

I don't shop at Aldi cause I find I still have to go to Woolies after so now especially with a baby it is easier to just shop at Woolies. I really should just go to Aldi tho.

Yeah we have the options of Coles, woolies & then ridiculously expensive IGA stores. I shop in coles now :(

Our aldi is next to woolies so it's easy enough to go to both

Yeah I use to do ALdi & the top up at coles. The town had all 3 with in 5 km of each other.

Brisbane has a heap of Aldi stores on the Northside, but we have only had one open on our side of town in the past 6 months. I had heard heaps about the specials and was so happy when I heard one was opening close by :)

I would say the best buy out of everything is their lean beef mince. Not only is it great quality and cheaper that Coles/Woolies, but it doesn't expire for at least 4 days. My theory is that Coles/Woolies must recycle their meat (i.e. sell it as more expensive steaks etc.) and when it is about to turn they chuck it through the mincer and sell it as minced beef. As a result, their mince NEVER has an expiry date longer that 1 or 2 days. This bugs me soooo much!

The nappies are great for around the home for our DS. Also, their nappy pants are pretty good and don't swell up nearly as much as their nappies do :)

Or, it could be that they don't add preservatives. Just playing devils advocate I have no idea what they do there. We get our meat at a butcher mainly, but if I bought meat that I wasn't planning to use within 48 hours id freeze it.

Their iced vo vo's!! Dunno the aldi name of them, but they are sooooo yum!!!

ETA - a mate of mine used to work at a woolies butchery & left them in a bad way. If he'd have had a problem with anything like that he'd have winged about it, so I 'm not sure about the recycled meat thing... but who knows??
I prefer our local co-op for meat, coz woollies can't be bothered with anything exciting, like crumbed steak or crumbed cutlets.

Oou Aldi is an hour away. Co*** Harbour. But thats the only one I know of for hundreds of kms. Kempsey, Port Macquarie, Tamworth, Armidale, Dubbo. None of them have one, though I'm sure most of them are alot lower income than Co***. But there is a woollies or 2 in each of those places. We have an extra woollies here we don't need & they want to open a coles too! Silly if you ask me!!

i have ibs and i find their lactose free milk is fantastic , and cheap.
also their equivalent to napisan, works just as well,
and their dim sims!

Got a cool 3 storey wooden garage DS1 got for christmas, have train set in cupboard for his birthday this year.

I do the bulk of my shopping there everyweek and then down to Wollies to do the stuff Aldi dont carry. We have a Coles opening in our little shopping centre in a few months so will be very spoilt for choice. :clap:

Nappies, wipes, mixed vege, milk - $2.89 for 3ltrs (cheaper than woolies and coles) lunch stuff for the boys so much cheaper, cereals, biscuits, spaghetti and baked beans, Pasta sauce and pasta ........ I could go on and on!

I dont think there is anything I havent tried there so if anyone has any ????? on anything ask away :)

Their grog is pretty good too. Except they my Aldi haven't had the cheapo Midori in aaages.

im so shocked that they're not planning on building up there, i think it would really be worth there while!!

but i love their chicken schnitzels and their chicken kievs, they're yummy!! and also some of their organic yoghurts (the apricot one....mmmmm)and.....just in general, i love the majority of their products, there cheap and good quality.

But my favourite would have to be the lasagna.. At the price less than $3 to have a meal in the freezer for when I can't be a$$ed getting dinner sorted for myself.. (don't give it to the kids though).

They do lactose free milk? I have to get some, the Zymil is so expensive and can be hard to get. We have three stores in a 10km radius, each one is near Coles and woolies.

I love their chocolates and the fruit and veg are always fresh for us I guess they have to compete. I get little champagne bottles that are from Germany I like not having to open a big bottle.
