Spec Savers???
I've always taken DD to OPSM for her glasses but they cost me a small fortune! Last time it was just under $400 for one pair but she does have bi focals (the ones that blend in).
Today DH had an eye test at Specsavers. He got 2 complete pairs of glasses for $299 :o He doesn't need bifocals though. I almost fell over because they were so cheap! They were quiksilver frames too.
A friend of mine told me NEVER to go there because she has had major problems with them, she's the type of person who has problems with lots of things though
Does anyone have any feedback on Specsavers, good or bad?

Mine are from spec savers and I have no issues at all :) I even buy their basic frames, no breaks, seem to be ok quality :)
Sent from my iPhone, more than likely while I should be doing something else!
-
I have been there recently and I was quite happy with them. Reasonable frame choices, service was good, not different to OPSM. After claiming on MBF, I think I only paid about $50 to get my 2 pairs.
Not 100% if the frames as as quality as ones you pay $400 for, but at their price it is not a problem to update them every 2 years. A small decorative piece has come off my frames that I use as sunglasses, but they have been dropped a few times.
-
Never had a problem with them, my last lot of glasses (both pairs) were from there plus my contacts.
-
I've had my spec savers glasses, 2 pairs, for well over 12 months (prob closer to 2 years) and have been very happy with them!! No dramas at all!!
-
Dd1 has glasses now, at 3.5 she is forever chewing off the nose piece and spec savers fix them for free and make sure they are adjusted to fit. We have had to go at least once a week!
-
never had a problem with them. got my last two pairs (after PHI rebate) for $100. DD1 broke one pair 2 days after i got them and i took them back and got a complete exact replacement pair at no cost.
-
Does anyone know how much extra they charge for bifocals? I forgot to ask.
-
don't know about the bifocals but I recommend them too...DDs are always getting at my glasses and they havent broken yet so I think they are great :D
-
Hey Tinks.
Mum who has bifocals went to spec savers the other week and they were going to charge her over $600 for one pair. she went to Laubum and pank and got them for a bit cheaper. (not sure if they are SA only that company or not) so get the prescription done then shop around.
I have single vision lenses and got 2 pair for $259 from Spec Savers. A lens fell out of my most used pair today, but I managed to pop it back in. Will go there over the weekend just so they can seal it properly.

We use them also. DS has glasses, was told he needed bifocals also. DH wanted a second opinion so I went to Specavers & they agreed with everything except the need for bifocals. Got his glasses $170 for 2. Then he broke a pair from fiddling with them all the time. I tool them in to get a "quote" on fixing them. They took them, had them for about 2 weeks before I got them back but they didn't charge me a cent in repairs. Said it was under warranty. Even though DS broke them from fiddling. DS recently had a check up (8 months later) but with a bahavioural optometrist & he said his current glasses are just fine for what he needs. So Happy that I didn't use teh very first place & pay a heap of money more for frames we really didn't like but was the best they had for bifocuals he didn't need.

Ouch Astrolady! I think DD's lenses were about $100 extra.
-
My sister got 2 pairs for i think she said $299 and hers are pretty nice. I went to OPSM because thats closer to home and spent $380 which is cheaper than my last pair which were $450.
If my glasses werent as sexy as they are i would have gone to specsavers :p
-
i just went there and got my kids glasses
last pair i spent 400 bucks on for DS1 and he had them for 2 weeks and havent seen them since
this time i got them both 2 pairs each- they wear adult glasses
DS1 2 pair i was out of pocket -$34
DD 2 pair i was out of pocket - $35
so it cost me $69 for 4 pairs of glasses
sweet as!!
-
Are Spec Savers glasses brand names, or are they all generic ones? Just curious if you dont mind me asking.
-
They have brands and generic.
-
DH got his first at big W and cost lots cant remember how much now, then I washed them oops damm cargo pants!!!! He got replacment there but was never happy with them gave him headaches etc.
I made him appt after lots of whinging at specsavers and her got 2 pairs less than 1 at big w!!!!!
No issues at all was very happy.
-
My current glasses are from specsavers and I love them! They're funky, hard-wearing and they didn't cost me a bomb. I need my prescription updated as since I got pregnant my eyesight has gotten worse, but I'll be going back to them for the next pair, very happy with them :)
-
I went to specsavers and got my new glasses and a pair of prescription sunnies for about $290 all up.
They're great, they're fine, they're loads cheaper than OPSM.
I don't wear them all the time so didn't get my perfect dream frames (would have had to fork out another $100+) but I got perfectly nice ones (I'm pretty fussy) and they've been fine so far (maybe 1 year now?).
And customer service, time spent, etc - all fine too.
HTH

I get mine at specsavers and havent had an issues, but they arent bifocals.
Mum took her glasses there, and they looked at them and said they couldnt do the same, and recommended her not to buy theirs, becuase the lenses she had were differnt, and a more precise? not that theirs are bad quality, but they told her that becuase her eyse are used to that type of lens, the ones they had wouldnt cut the mustard.
So it will depend onthe lenses that your DD, or rather her eyes, are used to and whether the specsavers pentax lenses stack up against them
-
There website says that Multifocals are from $239.
My current glasses are from there and I havent had a problem with them.
-
They seem OK if you only have single vision issues, but I reckon if you needed more complex lenses then you'd pay loads more. Just out of curiosity I'm going to call them an see what it would cost for me to get mine and DS's glasses from there. At OPSM we get a further 20% discount because they are the preferred supplier of our health fund (GUHealth) and we get 80% from GU anyway. Specsavers doesn't have a 'deal' with our health fund either. So it will be an interesting comparison
-
both pairs of my reading glasses are from specsavers. i got 2 pairs for $249! i'm also going to them again on saturday because of my current vision problems. give them a go, the worst that can happen is that you're not happy with them and just go back to OPSM?
-
love mine! Two pair for $199 when I went, and it was all covered by PHI except for the glare coating which was $50. I wear mine all the time and had more problems with my DKNY ones from OPSM than these ones which are no-namers. They do have lots of brand name ones though, I just liked the look of these ones more!
-
I went in there yesterday as my glasses keep slipping down my nose. The lady 'tried' to fix them (really I think the screw needs to be tightened), she tried to heat up the wings to curve them round me ears a bit more. She told me that they're too brittle to be fixed. Maybe she just didn't want to fix a pair of glasses they came from somewhere else (lenspro).
I had a look at some of the glasses and asked if I had to have phi to get glasses from them and then she was as nice as pie to me!
I do need some new ones and a check up...
-
I got my DS's last pair from clearly contacts for $8.84 and that was just the postage they actual glasses were free.
If you have your script I seriously recommend checking them out for a spare pair.
They have heaps of frames to choose from (labels as well) and the lenses are included with 100% money back guarantee if you arent happy with them.
He has no problems with them at all and we get his contacts perscription filled by them too for a fraction of the price of the optometrist.
-
Spec savers are good, never had a problem. I would suggest everyone get their pescription and buy their glasses online though. I got a FREE $160 (on this particular website... apparently $400 elsewhere) pair of glasses from an online company last week... just had to pay for postage. They arrived yesterday and they are AMAZING!!! Fit perfect, the lenses are perfect, you get a nice cloth, case and little screwdriver with them to adjust the frame if required. They were FANTASTIC!!!!
Every few weeks the company gives away 5,000 pairs of glasses (which is how I got this pair).
I thought Spec savers were great... but this company is EVEN BETTER!! Highly recommend!
(You can PM me for their name :) )

im an opsm girl through and through... i work there now but i also used to buy from only there before as well so im not completely biased.
i like the quality and the better brands and we see a lot of spec savers cust at our store that aren't happy.
just make sure that if you are getting quotes that you get like for like. it is really hard to make quotes though until we know exactly what you need and what is most suitable.
if you want any info or even some idea on costs just pm me.

Forgot to add dd is seeing a pediatric opthamologist who said for the type of glasses she has spec savers are fine.
-
My biased opinion is they are good (my DH has a franchise in the CBD). They are all franchised, so service can vary from one to the other, I haven't heard of any bad service.
They quite often have promo's on where you pay nothing other than your health fund, as in, they swipe the health fund card and that is all you pay.
They have gained alot of preferred suppliers from the Health Funds (Medibank just hopped on board as well), so you will always come out in front.
I have a couple of pairs, I used to be super snob when it came to specs. The quality is good Tinks and the after service is also good. You can be sure too that the frames you get are new, as the ones on the shelf are display stock only.
I also worked in the industry for 10yrs as well, although my DH is up with the new products available.
