Mmmmm Porridge. I love porridge in winter. I usually have it with just a bit of golden syrup and some milk. DH likes his with sultanas and banana.
How do you have yours?
Or do you think it's horse food and unfit for human consumption?

Porridge is braw, I aye hae it on a winters morn
ahem what I mean to say is, I ate it a lot in Scotland when it was cold. Sorry the thought of it regressed me a little  Yum. I love it with honey and sultanas.
GROSS ! nuff said.
We are porridge lovers here. I like mine with cream, brown sugar and sultanas. Nate has his (grossly) plain. Darc has hers a bit on the middle and DH thinks it's horse food, though with his cholesterol just have been received as an 8 (!) he might need to be force fed some porridge I think....
PS is this in Fruits and Vege forums cos of the tanies??? :hiding:
yummy love it my steamer makes them yummy
Yay - here, DD and I have probably every other day - summer and winter. Just with sultanas and milk (DD won't eat breakfast without 'tanas').
I prefer just the rolled oats type (cheap woolworths home brand) to the quick oats (same but seem to be have been shredded a bit)
In the past have had porridge with a spoon of horlicks in the milk - but these days seems a bit sweet.
Eat porridge here. Like it cooked with a touch of salt, then served with milk and either honey, golden syrup or brown sugar. Not a fan of fruit being in it.
DD and I are big fans!!
Just like WYSIWYG, it has to be proper rolled oats (generic Woolworths brand). Made with water and nice and thick!!
Brown sugar and milk for us :)
Every winter I think porridge will be great, and every time I eat it I hate it - I think its the texture! Its that gooey snot-like thing (sorry!!) that I cant handle in my mouth! The taste is ok though lol
My girls LOVE it - sometimes with blueberries, sometimes with honey & banana, or yoghurt :)
I came in here just to draw horse comparisons with the thread title, Onyx. Glad to see you beat me to it!
I'm a porridge lover. When I was younger my mother would serve it in the winter on big dinner plates with loads of sugar in, so it was over-sweet and cooled quickly. I have yet to understand the point! I like a big hot bowlful now with very little sugar.
DS has it most mornings, no matter what the weather. He usually has hot porridge (no sugar) followed by "cold porridge" (ie oats and milk, no cooking), then maybe weetabix and/or toast, then off to Nursery for second breakfast.
LOVE IT!
I always count down to our first frost as it's when we start eating it! I know there's nothing stopping us eating it beforehand, but you know these silly things we do sometimes!
I'll have it with anything- honey, banana, dates, cinnamon, tanas, stewed apple or pears, (how DS has his!) or just with brown sugar and milk. It has to be runny though!!! And once it's cold, it's done for :)
Love the stuff, winter or summer and all seasons in between! Me with 50/50 mix of water and milk and sultanas and DS1 with milk and honey. It is the the ONLY food DS1 is guaranteed to eat in full.
Love it!
I like it thick and make it with milk, no water. I have raw sugar or honey on it.
Gross!! Ewww...!!!
If horses eat it - I don't. Same goes for hay, grass (including things that look like grass, ie alfalfa), and anything else horses eat.
Big fans here. Weather doesn't matter..
I love it for daycare when the kids have to go early as I can cook it the night before.
yay!!
DD has milk with hers but otherwise plain and i havemilk and a little sugar on top
Love it! pinch of salt bit of brown sugar, made with milk not water so it is rich and creamy. I used to have a timer switch on the slow cooker and have it in there with chopped up pears. It would turn itself on at about 4 or 5 am and be just right by brekky time!!
I LOVE PORRIDGE!!! i was just thinking today that its nearly porridge time again
i like it made on milk not water. i have it with honey usually. sometimes i put a bit of cinnamon in it and occasionally a bit of diced apple.
yum yum yum!!!!
mmmmmm Golden syrup for me!!!!
 LOVE IT!
It takes 20 heaped spoonfuls of oats to feed our family every morning.
We have it summer and winter.
Made with water on the stove and served with milk and brown sugar. :D
I used a plug in timer thin hun on the power point.....worked a treat......
Yay! I make mine on water in the microwave, just needs a teaspoon of salt after the two minutes, then I do 1 minute bursts from there until it's the right thickness. Yummy!
Porridge household here. We have just had the boys and every morning R would come in and tell us he wanted breakfast and it had to be porridge. DH makes it in this house and it is yum. I like it make with milk and water then when dished up more milk and raw sugar
Moo & I share a bowl every morning :D we make it with milk & raw sugar.
DH can't even stand the smell of it!
Porridge lover...BUT I am very fussy and only use Uncle Tobys as I find the other brands aren't rolled as thin and always have a lot more chaff in them. I have tested this extensively since my DH is an oatmeal tightarse and has bought lots of other oats, always chaffy, take soooo much longer to cook (quick oats or otherwise). Roll em thin people. I also like to cook them in half water half milk on the stovetop so they have a nice creamy consistency.
Other caveat - beware the gas.
I prefer the stove top too Marydean, but I am keen to try the slow cooker method. I am so not a morning person so I'd have it more often if it's good :D
The gas, well the price you pay (or others do:p) for yummy creamy goodness
I love porridge so much! Both my sons do too. Summer or Winter. We only use rolled oats, not quick cooking oats. Most mornings we have it thick made with water, served with milk and sprinkled with brown sugar. Sometimes it's golden syrup or honey. When the boys were first eating solids I would put pureed or chopped fruit in theirs and they both loved it cooked with chopped dried apricots or banana. Every now and then I cook the oats with milk, cinnamon, brown sugar and raisins. My absolute favourite is banana baked oatmeal, but bananas are a bit too expensive at the moment.
Ingredients:
1/2 banana, mashed
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 cup water
1 large egg white
1 tbsp maple syrup
6 large walnut halves, broken
Pinch of baking powder
Directions:
Mash banana. Mix with other ingredients. Spray oven-proof bowl with cooking spray. Pour in mixture. Bake at 180 for 30 minutes.
If only we could harness it - it might provide a reliable source of cooking fuel for the next day's porridge
DH cooks his chaffy porridge in the slowcooker - we have an old style crock pot (they cook cooler than the newer ones) and he puts on a big load, eats it hot the first day, then keeps it in the fridge and reheats it in the micro for the rest of the week :spew:. I like the timer idea better.
yummmmmm I was wondering how to do it in the slow cooker! I like it with raw sugar - YUM!!!!!! Me, DS1, the dogs ...
I have video of my dog eating porridge for the first time, it was so funny! We also make up a slurry for the chooks!
My dh showed me the ways of having it with a glob of butter on the middle, then sprinkled with brown sugar and a little extra milk added. Totally not healthy but oh so yum!
Nooooo, now you've made me hungry
I cook mine with milk and then like to add a bit of cream and sugar! Deelish!!
yay here!
milk and honey or raw sugar. Sometimes frozen berries so they melt into it.
I'm going to make some in the morning when I get up early for work yum yum
I think that the consistency makes a big difference. I like mine runny while some like it so thick you can stand the spoon upright in it.
Love Love Love it here.
I usually have it with honey and warm milk Yummy :inlove:
