Ds has headlce. Ewwww. Does th itching stoP immediately after treatment? What are the chances of me getting it? He sometimes sleeps with me, and I know our heads have touched.
Does it usually go after the treatment, or is it quite aggressive?
Has anyonehere evercaught it from their kids?
I did, and I've had a hell of a time getting rid of them for good. A friend told me they put a semi perm colour through and the problem was gone, but I haven't tried it.
You need to retreat after a week because the eggs can still hatch.
The best way to get rid of the itch is a vinegar rinse.

Ds has mega thick hair and was beside himself when I combed it .I will def try the vinegar
Cover it in conditioner (maybe mixed with tea tree or eucalyptus) and let it sit for a few mins before combing it through with one of those awful combs. The lice come out easier and are easier to spot.

Yeah i did use conditioner. I just found Victoria has a hair service that directly treats people with headlice. So if I can't get rid of it I will spend the $75 and go there.
hun you can get some stuff from either the chemist or the supermarket that you can treat yourselves with- i found the wyld child stuff pretty good and not so harsh chemically. you also need to change all the bedding, sheets etc and i would be also washing any pillows, towels or cushion covers you have been near. treat the whole house- its easier. there is also a spray you can get that is a preventative spray- i put it on my kids everyday before school- its made by wyld child as well.

Everything is now laundered. I did a steam clean. Ds sitting with wild child on his hair as the other one didn't seem to kill them all. I have the preventable spray on me.
There was a magic mixture arous BB somewhere that was like a preventative, it had tea tree - eucalyptus - lavender and something else to spray in the kids hair.
After the treatment today, do a comb through every 2nd day and treat next week to be on the safe side.
If he has thick long hair it might be a comb through one a week/fortnight to keep on top of them :)
I used the Moov Stuff and Eco kid - they also have a tea tree preventer spray, hairspray does help stop them jumping too. The best thing I have found is to use my hair straightener on the girls hair after treating as it seems to fry the bugs/eggs off for good. Not sure if that is possible for you tho. GL
Been researching this and the main message from scientists who have studied lice is "treat the head". So don't waste time washing bedding etc, they can't live there, only on a human head. Spend that effort on the affected head.
If you read the packages of most of the newer, natural treatments you will find the main ingredient is teatree oil. So just get some yourself. You can use conditioner to help with the combing, or olive oil. Also if you can leave the oil on for long enough (over 8 hours) they will suffocate and make sure treatment is repeated to catch any that may have hatched, but before they lay a new batch of eggs.
And keep a plastic nit comb in the shower. Get the kids in the habit of combing every time they have conditioner in their hair as a preventative :)
Good idea about the comb in the shower. Did the treatment. Then when I combed it tonight I was still getting a heap of eggs, plus I found three juvenile bugs. Does that mean it didn't really work?
DD also had it. So she has now been treated also. She barely has any hair as it is! She loves having her hair combed, so sat there happily.
It really groses me out.
I will have to let childcare know. Am I right to think that kids are only excluded if they have live bugs? Since I am still pulling eggs out.
Comb it through tomorrow with some oil and it should get the rest of the eggs out :-D
We have been battling these little buggers for ages, but I tried some nitwits all in one yesterday and I literally watched them coming to the surface they hated it so much.
I've never seen that before, just wanted to share
We battled this for months :( MJ now has conditioner to her head every night to prevent her getting them again.
If we have an out break I would condition and cob through her hair EVERY night for 2 weeks to make sure I got every single one of the buggers!
If she is at day care her hair is braided and when she plays with families that have frequent out breaks I do a treatment that night JIC...

I conditioned and combed their hair daily and got rid of them for now! I swear they repulsed me. I can handle most thing but they just grossed me out!
Does it have tea tree oil in it? I found when I use tea tree they do what they can to escape the hair.:

I have a small spray bottle (old kids tangle free bottle) with a mixture of water, conditioner, tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil I used this as a preventor and for quick comb throughs.
I also have a comb in the shower and when I condition the girls hair I go through it...I also do it to my own as a precaution...I have occasionally found one in my hair.
I find that once they are in school/daycare it is an on going thing.
Checking, using a preventor is the only way to keep away.
You cannot just treat them get rid of it and think they will never come back...unfortunately...especially when they are in school and there are parents who don't treat their kids.

I'm so sick of this too...it never ends does it!!
My daughter (9) has the longest, thickest hair and she's finally lice-free. It was a challenge because she got so sick of her hair being tied up and hair sprayed. When they get to a certain age and can understand they need to keep their head away from other kids, it gets MUCH easier. My son just keeps getting them because he's always active and playing close to other kids and has the attention span of a goldfish lol... just keep treating him with natural stuff whenever I spot an egg.
I've been using nitwits detangling spray and it's fantastic :)
A was getting them all the time (at least twice a week) but since I took a punt on this stuff he hasn't had any!
H, been having the same issues for the past 5 months keeping finding the little buggers everywhere.
Does any one have a recipe for a spray in which I can use on my daughters hair every day

I use kids hair conditioner spray with added tea tree oil.
Some of my tips. Don't rely on the products. Manual removal of the eggs is the only surefire way to get rid of them.
Also the first time you comb through you don't do it just once we do it until there are no more eggs/lice found when coming through. Yes it's a PITB. But if you don't do this you will be chasing your tail.
After the first comb through do it again in two days if you find none then leave it for another 3 days and do again. If you find some repeat and then do again in three days.
We do 1st then in 2 days, then 3, then 3 then 7. Treat with conditioner spray on between treatments.
Never ever use those plastic combs. They are useless. I find the KP24 combs rip their hair out. The comb I recommend is quit nits. There are two combs one for short hair one for long and a magnifying glass.
We only ever use conditioner and a nit comb. My kids have only had it a few times. But every time I get them all through persistence.
Also when combing section the hair in parts then comb very small sections. If you try to do it quickly by doing larger sections it will be too much for the comb and you will not successfully get them all. Also make sure you wipe the conditioner off onto a tissue each time you comb. Do not recombine the hair without wiping in between.
New evidence suggests that the adults can live off the head for 24 hours the eggs 6 days. So whilst boiling is not necessary washing is. And if you can use a towels on their pillows (new each morning) until you are sure they are gone.
I know this sounds like a lot of work but I don't like the treatments, not only is it not good for the kids but like most insect killers/repellents they can develop a resistance (just like fleas do with treatments and mozzies do with repellents). The other thing is in some hair types and colours you cannot see the infant lice until they have grown into adults and by that time they would have reinfected other kids. So combing is often the only way to be sure that they aren't there.
All of the above plus I make sure her hair is plaited every day, and sprayed with hair spray. She didn't get them once last term so I think not having hair out and flowy definitely makes a difference.
