Lots of threads pop up about getting our DD's ears done & what age. But what about your DS? If they showed an interest, what age would you let them?

I don't see a difference. I personally wont be getting my DD's ears pierced until they are old enough to understand and really want it themselves. Some would stand if i had a boy. :)
I think earrings look terrible on boys and will not be letting DS until he is old enough and go and get it himself. Hopefully he will choose to never get it done.
DD won't be till she in in high school at least.
hmm... never really thought about it until now (Not that I have a son) but yeah, I guess it is the same if my DD wanted to. She has asked a few times but I have managed to talk her out of it re: the pain factor (she is nearly 4 yo). I'd like her to be a bit older, but that is just my personal preference
I'm not a fan of earring for my sons. Neither is their father. My eldest has a boy in his class with his ear pierced.
I think I would be then same as with a DD, not until they are old enough to ask, and even then they would have to be old enough to understand fully what they are asking for and that it is a permanent hole in you ear.
I just hope they never ask
Both DS's wanted it done Because they heard us talking about getting their Sister's ears done. We got them all done at the same time along with my mums two youngest:
So we went in to the Hairdressers and got DD (3) DS (5) DS (6) my sister (6) and My brother (13)... this was a year an a bit ago - out of my lot only the eldest DS has his in still, DD decided she didnt want them any more and DS kept playing with his and kept making his ear red and bleed so we took it out. My sister doesnt have hers anymore, and My brother still has his in...
I feel that if they want it it's their choice. They can choose to take it out if they want too :-D
i wouldnt let my son get his ear pierced. as lilima said, he can when he is old enough, just hope he dosent want to!
DD & DS (when they arrive) will have to wait until they are adults, so 18. Same for any piercings/tattoos. I didn't want my ears done when my mother decided to get them done as a child and I've had troubles ever since because they weren't done the traditional way of piercings in the family but done by a gun, I self-pierced with a needle at 16 and am happy with that piercing.
So why is it it different to go get a girls ears done because we think it looks cute/pretty etc. But The DD gets no choice (when they are little I am talking) BUT then not letting an older boy who wants it done simply because we don't like the look of it?
My DH has 2 piercings in his ears. I don't have a problem with my boys gettng it done if they want it done. But just like Isla, they will have to wait till they are a bit older.
My DS1 asked when he was about 12 and I took him to get it done (one ear) he lost interest about a year later and it closed over...about 4 months ago he did it himself at school...I was worried about infection (silly boy) but I looked after it and it healed fine and I really don't mind it.
My DS3 is 8 and really wants his done and has been asking for about 6 mths
I really don't see the difference between getting a girl done or a boy....especially if they ask for it.
I think it is a little unfair to allow one and not the other...but that is just me.
Some of my kids (boy) friends have their ears pierced but my DS has never shown any interest. DH had his ears pierced in high school and has only taken them out in the last year. I'm not a fan of ear piercing on young boys but DS is at the age now where I would probably agree to it. I will NOT allow them to have stretchers in their earlobes until they are over 18 though.
My brother was allowed to get his done at 13. If my boy wanted one it would be the same as if my girl did. I wouldn't really mind. I don't think ear piercings are a big deal. You can always take them out.
Tinks - I agree about the stretchers. I personally don't like them at all, so wouldn't want my child to have one.
I would be happy for DS to have his ear lobe pierced with a needle by a professional when he's old enough to take care of it, which is the same as DD.
I'm not the hugest fan of them on boys but I believe if DD is allowed then DS should be allowed as well.
If vic wanted his done it would be an age he can care for it himself. If he wanted a strecher thingy it would be after he finishes school. Plus i'd get another hole done with him.
I don't think little girls look nice with pierced ears. And boys look terrible.
That is why DD will have to be at least 14. And the school ds is going to does not allow piercings on boys, so if he chooses to have a piercing he will have to wait till he finishes school.
oh i agree on the stretchers! That a full on disfiguring thing. so yeah consenting adult age for that!
If I have a son,I hope he never wants to get his ears pierced  if he does he can wait until he's left home.
DD has to wait until age 12 if she wants hers done. Same age I got it :)
None of my boys have expressed an interest in getting their ears pierced yet, but I suspect when DD eventually gets hers done at least one of the boys will want one pierced. I certainly wouldn't say no to them based on their gender, and yes to their little sister. The after school care teacher at their school has lots of piercings and brightly coloured hair so it's all pretty normal to them. DS2 in particular looks up to him as a bit of a role model so I wouldn't be shocked if he wanted his ear pierced to look like him.
ETA just asked my husband for his opinion, and he agrees with me that he sees no reason for boys to be older that girls in order to get their ears pierced.
None of my boys have expressed interest in having their ears pierced and my DS1 thinks they look horrid. I don't like ear piercings on males. My DS wanted to get snake bites a while back (2 piercings in bottom lip) and we told him he would have to wait until he was at least 16 to get it done. By the time he was 16 he was well & truly over them.
Not sure I would be letting facial piercing before 16 either.
I agree, facial piercings are a lot more visually confronting and I suspect would be more prone to infection/scarring. None of my kids, regardless of gender, will be allowed any before 16.
Personally I can't stand seeing boys with earrings. Even when I was at school and had loads of piercings myself, I didn't like that my boyfriend had one LOL. So my answer would be no, I wouldn't let my boys get their ears pierced, but then Mum only ever 'let' me get one in each ear and I ended up with 5 in each ear ;) so I may not have as much say as I'd like in the long run. Same for my girls. My kids play sport too where they can't have them in and it is a PITA when you have a child or several children who hole up a game while they take their earrings out at last minute.
Interesting that many private schools allow girls to wear one stud in each ear, but boys are not allowed any.
Private schools are not renowned for equality!! :p
I've been thinking of posting a similar thread.
I don't really have an issue with boys having earrings. My dad got one when i was young- actually it was a bit of a joke to annoy my nana (his mil)- which backfired as he'd gotten it in the wrong ear- which my nana smuggly pointed out (it was and is still one of those funny moments we look back on) so he had to go back down have it done again- so he took my brother who would've been about 8 or 9 and had his done too- my brother had been asking for one anyway. My DH also has his ear pierced- so its really the norm in my family (and alot of friends to). I've got my ears pierced- 3 on one side, 4 in the other- including some up top of my ear.
My DS1- who is almost 3 has been curious about our earrings lately (and my nose piercing). I asked if he wanted an earring- just to see what he'd say and explained it was a needle in the ear- he said no, but I've always said that when he or his brother ask for one then we'll get it done. Even if they are 3 (i was just over 3 when i had my first ones done- i'd been asking mum apparently- and i never had a problem with them). I know this is going against the grain in here- but hey each to there own...this is just my opinion.
DS is in yr 8 this year, his good friend has a bloody eyebrow pierced. Doesnt look 'right'. there's no way in hell id allow this. until he's 18. maybe abit earlier but a earring (not facial). Ive had bad luck with my body piercings. Dont heal. So i took them out.
