Brag thread

What are we all working on at the moment? I'm in a bit of a craze, I've got an afghan on the go, as well as knitting one scarf, crocheting another, and considering starting a baby blanket for a friend. My blog links up with this FABULOUS crafty linky thing on Thursdays, it'd be great to see more people there, and we can share pics of our projects and get ideas :)

I am between projects for once. It's a bit of a weird feeling considering I usually have a few going at once. Lol. I'm thinking about teaching myself to knit so I can both knit and crochet. Do you prefer to knit or crochet? Which do you find easier?!

I just finished ( yesterday) crocheting a scarf. I finished making my eldest a blanket last week which was granny squares ( blue and black in stripes cause that's what he wanted. ) all put together and then a border around the outside. Here ( not the greatest photo, sorry)

I'm so lazy with getting more wool. Are you like that?! :p

I used to crochet many years ago but i don't think i was very good. Sewing is more my thing. On my LO's bed she has a crocheted rug and then a knitted rug on top. They are awesome! so much nicer than boring shop bought blankets. I would like to learn to knit oneday but i'm not very good on getting even tension and so it tends to go skewish. Do you reckon you can overcome this, or am i doomed to be a non-yarn creator?

It depends on the project really. I taught myself both, and I know how to do more in crochet. I basically only know knit and purl stitches for knitting. If it's a scarf I'll knit it, but anything else is generally done crochet. I think crochet was easiest to learn :)

That's gorgeous! I'd love to see the scarf, crocheted scarves fascinate me, mainly coz I've never done one :rofl: And no, my only problem with buying wool is stopping! I have a huge tub full of different wools, I'm trying to think up projects to use them coz Professor doesn't want me buying any more, lol.

You can definitely overcome it HotI! Tension comes with practice. Maybe you could get a novelty wool and knit yourself a scarf, and that way you can't see any differences in tension? Would be a great way to practice as well :)

I brought some funky coloured knitting needles today. Now YouTube and I have a date to learn to knit. :D

I was actually wondering that about tension as well, HotI. My sister had troubles with it when she was starting out with the whole knitting thing and in the end she just gave up.

I finished a babies cap/beanie a couple of weeks ago and am working my way through an easy cardigan. Since I didn't even get a single bootie done while pg with DD, this is a huge effort for me!

My nanna would be so proud. Now I'm just wondering whether I redo the back of the cardigan, since I got the pattern right (mostly) on the front and figured out where I went wrong on the back, or just leave it be since no one will look at both parts at the same time anyway (and the baby won't know). They are at least the same colour!

Nice idea Keike, I love seeing what everyone is up to. Your pics are great, am I right in thinking you are a bit of a fan of pink/purple? ;)

I love the colours in your work Jewel. I'd love to see an image of the whole thing, I bet it looks amazing.

Jennifer, I doubt that it would be an issue to leave the cardi as is, you are right, no-one is looking at the front and back at the one time so it most likely wouldn't be noticed. It is more about whether it would bother you iykwim! I'd be inclined to leave it as I am always keen to move on to the next project. I justify mistakes as being part of the charm of handmade.

HotI, you can absolutely overcome tension related knitting issues, I am living proof. I have always been a crochet person, 20 years of it now (sheesh, not sure I wanted to work out that calculation!!) and I always avoided knitting as I could never get the hang of even tension. I was also a chronic stitch dropper, or stitch maker and would somehow end up with all sorts of weird and wonderful patterns when I was supposed to be doing a straight knit. Babies are great for inspiration though and in the last 12 months, beginning with the desire to knit a nappy cover for dd2, I overcame and now consider myself a knitter!!!

I have just finished a cardi for each for my girls and a number of little hats for newborns and my one year old and am about to start something for me. I'm hooked!

Jennifer13 - Way to go. I think beanies are cuteeeeeeeeeeee. I'd prob leave it and not redo. Depends if you can leave it and not let it bother you every time you put it on your bubba.

Jackrose - Awesome cardi. Love it.

Keike - I did take a photo of my scarf on as well as hanging up for you but I haven't had time to upload them. I do have one HERE that I took mid way in making it for my 365 project. It shows the pattern of it.

I promise I will be a bit more organised and all that and I might start an album here with my things ( I'm such a copycat. :p)
cause if I do it now I know I won't get up and finish sewing this project I started earlier. I've allowed myself a 10 -15min lunch/bb/fb break and my time is up. :D

How're we going ladies? I've finished one rug, crocheted a scarf, started two more rugs, still gotta finish the knitted scarf and a BIG afghan and start and finish another crochet scarf - got all that? :)

I've just finished crocheting my littlest some dog slippers. I think they look more like kangaroos though but who cares. Lol. I'll post a picture when I upload it another day. (I'm too lazy today)
I crocheted myself and my sister like headband/ear warmer things that do up with a cute love heart button.I even lined it with material. I love it so much.
Currently in the middle of making my eldest a beanie too.

So not that much. I found the cutest pattern the other day for little crocheted converse looking slippers for a baby, or maybe a 1-2yrold, just not sure if I've going to try and have a go at them or not. Dunno who I'd make them for that would actually be grateful and genuinely thankful for something handmade(I have people in my family that expect things and aren't grateful for anything). Lol

LOL, the crocheting has been stopping me scratching myself to death with my anxiety, so this is definitely not a normal workload! Plus, barely going to work and not having any kids = lots of crocheting time :)

Ooh, can't WAIT to see your headbandy thing, it sounds gorgeous!

There's another thread in this section from helle, with a couple of questions about beanies - could you check and see if you can answer them? I've never made one, I need your wisdom, guru :)

I hope the crocheting is helping with distracting you from scratching. You can make pretty things and distract yourself at the same time = awesome!

I'll try and get a good photo of a headband/earwarmer. They aren't that great but they work. I thought I was pretty cool by making a flower and adding a button onto it so I can attach it or not when I wear the headband. lol.

Also I just decided to change the beanie I'm making my eldest into a mohawk one. So a beanie with earflaps and a mohawk on top!! I'm excited!!

Hi Girls - Can I join in here too? There are some very talented ladies here, alot to take inspiration from that's for sure. I started crocheting about 18 months ago. I taught myself on you-tube so I'm only at a very basic level. I really enjoy making rugs. I have just finished a nice pink one that I'm posting a picture of. The other thing I am working on is a blanket for a single bed all done in single crochet. (should take me about 22 years I expect) This is the project that I do between projects because it is quite slow going and I get tired of it. I'm using all scraps of wool from other projects to make it. I will try to get a picture of that when it gets a bit more established so you can all check it out.

So far I have three rows done of a single crochet scarf for Miss J. Ok so it's not anything too exciting, but I am so pleased that I am actually doing is :D

Aussiegirl - Your blanket is great! Well done. I know what you mean about it being a project you do between projects. I was like that when I made my big blanket and my son's blanket. They're such big projects that seem to go forever. ( well, that's how I felt most of the time. :D)

Sarah - Way to go! That's great. I felt like that when I taught myself the other year. Once you start you'll be hooked :p

Jewel - Those slippers are adorable! How long did it take you to make a pair? I don't think I could ever make something like that. I bought a cute pattern off Etsy for some 'sandal' booties for DS and one would think it would be so easy to make something so small but it wasn't. I made 1 wonky 'sandal' and it took me half a day and it was all skew-if and too small anyway. It's hopeless - I can only make rugs. LOL.

They came as a kit thingie from Go-Lo. You get the wool and pattern and you make the slippers + a teddy bear ( I didn't make that though). I didn't do it all at once. I planned to but I had to start and undo it a few times - once cause I had the wrong size hook. Duh, me! LOL! The other times were cause I missed a stitch and there was a gap, and then the soles were diff sizes (I was like wtf?!) - So I did little bits over a couple of weeks.

You make pretty rugs though!

Seriously though, it's all practice with stitches and pattern reading, I think. Oh as well as patience. lol
I started with a blanket, then I just found cute things to try one day. Like Little flowers, or love hearts, beanies. I made a heart pillow earlier in the year. I am proud of it... Not that it really gets used but I made it. Lol. (it's in my 365 project somewhere if you wanted to see if not that's okay too. :D)

Looked up the 'You have my heart' pillow - it's so cute and would look awsome on someone's bed. I also came across your 'rare flower' out in the garden. I have started on the flowers but not too many. The basic ones don't take too long to make. I also have made a couple of beanie's but I've forgotten how now so will have to start from scratch and learn again. I might go off and do some of my next rug now......off to find my work.

I need to get the motivation to make another blanket. I just know it's going to take ages and can't get the motivation to start it. :wall:

Some flowers people have made are soooooooo cute, but I dunno if I'd be able to make them. I also have to make my boy a beanie/hat thing for his dress up for bookweek thing for school. He's going as Wally from Where's Wally? Lol

I just finished a knitted doll for DD1, I was so happy with how she turned out and even more pleased to see that DD took to her! I am so used to making things and having it absolutely refused :doh:

I hit the jackpot with this one. It probably had something to do with the pink dress and removable fairy wings though!

Wow. I love the knitted doll! It's the cutest! I really need to get off my butt and teach myself to knit. :doh:

I haven't really done much crocheting lately other than the Wally hat last week for book week. Turned out alright in the end and suited his costume. Here it is. :)

I'm still working on my current rug. There have been a few days where I haven't even done anything with it but yesterday I picked it up again. Only a couple of weeks until the baby I'm making it for arrives so I had better get cracking...

I have finally finished my big project, a poncho! Something for myself for a change, the Jo Sharp Asymmetrical Poncho. I am a big fan of the baby and kids knits as they are so quick and satisfying, but when I saw someone wearing the poncho I was inspired. They lent me the pattern and 3 months later… I have a gorgeous, warm drapey number to flounce around in. I have it logged in my Ravelry account with details, but a pic here.

Itchy fingers after that mammoth task was completed and a new baby in the circle means that I have a gorgeous Merino yarn on the needles now and a "small things romper" almost complete. Nothing like a quick project for immediate gratification after a long drawn out one!

Oh I have a couple of things going at the moment, I will update my ravelry account and come back and link it :)

Keep forgetting to pop in. Finished outfit for teddy, beanies for both sister's babies and now onto a bigger beanie for DD2. I also finished a beanie for myself, should post a photo of that.

If anyone is interested, I set up a group over in Ravelry for BB knitters and crocheters so we can link patterns and projects without having to link through here as it is a commercial site. If you search the groups it is called BB hookers (inspired in a crochet thread here but knitters are welcome too ;)) I am gjrose on Ravelry if anyone wants to link up there.

This was such a fun thing to knit because as it grew, it just got cuter and cuter. I can't wait to see it on the little boy it has been given to (hope it fits!)

Now on to some newborn hats for a friend expecting twins soon and maybe a dress for DD1 with some gorgeous Noro yarn I picked up at half price as it is discontinued. I just have to cross my fingers that I will have enough to make a dress…

JR it was in a library book DD1 borrowed on knitting projects. She pestered me for a few weeks before I got around to it.

Oh, I love it when kids place an order for things and are invested in the making! I love nothing more than DD saying "you can make that mummy" with absolute confidence.

A backpack i made for DD

ETA - oops, just realised this was in knitting & crocheting. the backpack is sewn, but i will leave it here anyway.

Cute backpack! I want to make my big girls one each for Kinder next year! I was looking at the toddler backpack pattern on Made by Rae (.com), I would add a pocket though.

Love the fairy, did you you use the Sally the Eco fairy pattern, it looks similar. I am planning on making one for each of my girls for Christmas, the one I would like to mirror is a project from the Sally the Eco fairy pattern it is by tausigma, she called her project 'tausigma's garden variety fairy' very cute.

I like that backpack, have you bought the pattern? it wouldn't be too hard to make a similar pattern.

i lined the inside and added an extra pocket inside. i want to make a bag for me, and then a bigger one for DD with more pockets (she loves pockets!)

No I haven't bought it. I will likely draft a a similar one myself as I will need to make sure it fits their luch boxes and drink bottle :) once I find a good drink bottle that is!
