Ok so Dh just doesnt think a tour around Europe is doable for a holiday at this point in time.
So we've been discussing alternatives. We'd def want to go for 7-14 days. Preferrably out of Australia. Sometime between January and May 2012 (sooner the better).
So if you had 14 days to go somewhere, where would you go and why???
Probably Malaysian Borneo. Close so don't have the long haul, cheap, great food, great wildlife & people.
New Zealand, 2 week driving tour.
I'd like to go to Vietnam if I could go without the kids to do some adventure stuff - riding bikes around, catching local chicken buses around, eating myself silly on the street / market food.
If I had to take the kids then probably Bali and hire a babysitter so I could get some lazing by the pool with a ****tail in!
Agree with Ang, New Zealand's great. I could spend 2 weeks in the UK and/or Ireland.
New York. So much to do and the dollar is awesome right now.
But if I was looking for a total rest-up, Rarotonga, Cook Islands, staying on the Muri Lagoon.
Disneyland. As above really, the dollar is so good.
Bali..you could get a house with cleaner and cook and babysitter.
Vietnam is very high up on my list of places to go, especially around Hanoi and Sapa.

Fiji have great deals. Mauritius is a great place. Most hotels have a kids club, it's beautiful and relaxing and the people are lovely.

With kids - Singapore and stay on Sentosa Island. Heaps to do right on the island, even for little ones and lots to do for Mum and Dad too. Great, new hotels that are really well set up for kids. Easy, quick access to Singapore proper.
Without kids, find a great resort in Fiji. DH and I went to Fiji for our honeymoon a few years ago and it was just so beautiful. We stayed on Royal Davui Island. Its pretty exxy, but if you can stretch to it, it is serious heaven for couples. Amazing food, stunning accommodation and really lovely people. Less than 30 guests can stay at any one time so a really intimate, romantic place to go. We're saving to go back for our 10th anniversary!!
Cambodia/Laos or Malaysia
Palau >.> I want to see Jellyfish Lake amongst other things.
New Zealand would be excellent for 2 weeks - not too far to go, lots to do and see.
NZ would be beautiful. and such a range of things to do - outdoorsy stuff, beautiful scenery, spa retreats etc
hawaii is nice & you could do west coast US - if the kids are going you could do disneyland. although i could just spend 2 weeks in NY.
what about malaysia & a visit to hong kong (there's a disneyland there too now if you're taking kids & like that sort of thing).

My parents are there at the moment. They got to Cambodia a few days ago, they were in Vietnam since the start of July. It's been 38 degrees with 95% humidity. They're on a tour, have been having 3-4 showers a day and walking around with spray water bottles. My stepdad has ended up on a drip. So if you want to go/take kids, don't go this time of year.

We arent taking the kids. It will be a very belated honeymoon after 7 years of marriage lol Im going to head back into the travel agent today and get quotes on a couple of different holiday packages for a few different places and we'll choose from there.
I got one for a tour of Europe (12 days) plus day in London for $9000 in December and Dh said hes fine with that if we can get the inlaws or godparents to watch the kids but I might look into other places before I decided. We'll be going around Dec/Jan/Feb/March/April.
He said he'd be interested in China or something like that.
(I kind of want this holiday to be nice and comfy and whatever because he will literally have just gotten back from A f g h a n i s t a n. So Im not entirely sure about heading to Asia or the like.)

Oh you so need more then one day in London! Honestly you would be so rushed if you did that tour and would leave you really wanting more. I would save the tour of Europe for another time when you have more time to do it.:

Or alternatively if you really do want to do Europe only pick 1-2 countries to do in that timeframe...you could do UK/Ireland in 2 weeks but you lose a day there and back in travel time, or even do Italy for 2 weeks - now that would be divine.:D
Oh yeah - Japan! Look up Ryokan and check out some of the traditional inns - luxury ++++ (although expensive). Plus think of the food! Otherwise Singapore? Never been but heard its good.
My OH is really fussy about food... is that something you need to consider?
I would go to an island so I can laze while he fishes... preferably somewhere that has a nice pool/bar all in one. Cause I have always dreamed of floating upto a bar and ordering drinks :D
I suggested Japan but he said no, to expensive (spending money wise not travelling there).
Im not a big beach holiday person considering we live in the tropics so beach is a done every day thing. Dh isnt a beach person either.
Ive already been to Italy as a 16yo for 2 weeks so as much as I would be fine to go again, Dh would view it as a waste of money.
Id love to do Egypt but Dh said definately no way.
I think we'll end up doing the 12 day european tour unless I can come up with something he is happy with.
Japan isn't as expensive as you might think. If snow sports are on your agenda it is actually relatively affordable. Maybe you should price a Japan holiday before you cross it off your list.
The dates you are looking at will be winter/spring in the Northern hemisphere. If you don't fancy the cold you might want to go later in Spring or stick to the Southern Hemisphere. I agree with the PP that 14 days isn't enough for Europe. Maybe pick one or 2 countries and visit them. Holland would be awesome in Spring, all the tulips would be out. Paris in spring *le sigh*.

But as others have said stick to 1 or 2 countrys as 2 weeks not enough to do all of Europe and enjoy it.
Turkey is another one on my list. Everyone who has been there raves about it.
