I think you can have a lot of say in it - I've got an Alexander and we chose the nickname "Xander", said we didn't want Alex or Allie or anything... And it's worked so far!
Might change once he is able to voice opinions of his own though... ;)

My partners name is Jeremy, he gets called Jem, Jez, Jezza, Jeremiah and Jerm. I call him Jer. Unfortunately, he does get Jerry and he hates it.
I love the name Jeremiah, and if my fiance's name wasn't Jeremy I'd go for it!
I had a friend jem growing up - i think that's my fave.
I wanted to call my bubba Jem, Jeremy being the long version.
I have always loved it since To Kill a Mockingbird.
DP was that into it though.
If i ever (not bloody likely though) had another boy, I would just call him Jem, dont care what DP thinks LOL.
I too was going to say Jem, have a friend with a little boy called Jeramiah and he gets called Jem and it suits very well.
I know to little girls called Remi, it's a very popular girls name recently so prob wouldn't choose that.
We have friends with a now adult son Jeramiah and he's been called 'Miah' for as long as I can remember.
I went to primary school and high school with a Jeremiah and he got called Jerry. Never heard any other nickname for it, well one that was nice!
My son's name is Jem (Jeremy). We call him Jem, so everyone else follows suit. No-one has ever called him Jerry or Jez. That may all change in high school of course.

Seriously though... whatever name you give to your little bundle... there is going to be the chance that once you don't have the say so much with a shortened version of his name, that it might just happen to be one you hate. People used to call Joshua "Josh" when he was little, but I didn't like it... so used to always tack on "ua" when they said "Josh" rofl. Now, so many people call him that. My mum used to hate people calling me Cass... I hate people calling me Cassandra lol..... KWIM? I do like Jez and Jem ... Jem is gorgeous ... and Miah is unusual :) I love Jeremiah for a name, really love it.
