Almost everything late in pregnancy has bothered me, usually when I got to bed. I've been drinking a small glass of milk about 30 mins before bed, seems to do the trick for me.
I had a cold last week so cut out dairy to try and keep things under control, but after 2 nights of heartburn I decided a glass of milk was well worth the extra snot :)
TUMS!!! They are a lifesaver - I deal with the heartburn nearly every night, did last pregnancy too.
Also, I try to avoid eating spicy foods or anything too fatty without breads to soak it up. Tums are still needed to help with the fatty foods though often. ;)
Heartburn is an early pregnancy sign for me. It kicks in about 2dpo and just gets worse. Things I've tried with last 2 bubs include:
* tissue salts chewable tablets from the naturopath. Only thing that 100% worked. Called Schuesslar acid neutraliser. Try a health food shop.
* gaviscon for when I ran out of the tablets
* things improved a lot when I started a GF diet
* huge wedge pillow in late 2nd trimester with DS1. It propped me up so I could breathe without choking on acid and meant I could still sleep on my back part of the night.

I didn't avoid much in terms of heartburn, but I had to usually buy my own 2 litres of milk cause I'd go through that much milk in a couple of days because of heartburn.
Having said that, I also had gaviscon on hand and... ugh there was something DH had that I used as well but I can't remember the name of it (damn preggo brain!)
For me, personally in this pregnancy -
Particularly avoid onion, garlic, broccoli, cauliflower, coke.
Don't bend over.
Lots of glasses of milk, but no hot milo drinks because they make it worse.
My mum swears by ginger ale but I can't stand the stuff.
Some people think fruit tingles are a lifesaver (:lol: i didn't see the connection until I read it out loud teehee).
And of course Mylanta, Gaviscon, Quickeze chewy tabs etc are all supposed to help.
Definitely aviod anything too spicy or acidic, avoid eating too quickly too as this will often make it a lot worse. I try to break meals up into smaller portions so I'm not having huge amounts of food all at once, even if it means I wind up eating like a hobbit (breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner).
And when all else fails - Rennie is my friend.
I think someone mentioned it before but second up TUMS! So good especially the orange ones. I always get heart burn at night....it sux!!!But milk and yoghurt helps cool the heat down:)

Hmmm... What are Fruit tingles made of? I may see if a similar product exists where I am (USA). Sounds yummier than TUMS, although some of those are quite yummy too. ;)
Mine got to the point where absolutely nothing worked for me :( It was so, so severe. My throat bled a few times from how raw it got. I tried it all, and it worked for most of the pregnancy, right up until the very end, probably 34 weeks plus, nothing helped. Even water set it off. It's usually not so doom and gloom though lol!
I had to avoid tomatoes, chocolate and pineapple. It was so bad for me that if I looked down I would start throwing up! I used tums, gaviscon, mylanta & renies. I don't think any of them worked that great though. I tried the liquid gavisccon and it seemed to make the heart burn worse. You can go to your doctor and get some good drugs if it gets really bad
Acupuncture!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously. It really works.
Tums and sipping milk. the milk really helps.

Ok so shopping list time haha fruit tingles, chewable quick eze, milk and lots of it...
My heartburn was so bad last night I was in tears I couldn't stand up properly it hurt that bad....
Will also mention it at my next OB appt.

anything oily or lots of chilli sets me off...which is AWFUL because the only craving I've had lately is LOADS of chilli on EVERYTHING and ANYTHING!!
Early on in pregnancy, Rennie tablets and Farmers Union Iced Coffee worked a treat.
At about 20 weeks when I couldn't sleep because of the nasty heartburn, I asked my osteopath if he had any tips...
He said boil about 1tsp of aniseeds in a few cups of water, then drink it...you can even leave it to cool and drink it cold if you like...but seriously...MIRACLE...no more heartburn. Especially great for me since I LOVE licquorice :)
When I was PG, someone suggested Fruit Tingles - you know those lollies? Well, it worked! And I was ADDICTED to them!!!! But be warned, too many makes your poo can be like a laxative effect...
I also found fizzy drinks helped. I drank ice cold coke like it was going out of fashion!!! Next time I'll stick to fizzy water!
I'm finding this time I've had NO heartburn! I don't eat ANYTHING premade. What I do eat is all gluten, dairy, refined sugar, soy and corn free. Last 2 pregnancies were hell with the HB!!!! I stay away from oranges during pregnancy, too much acidity... I have lots of peppermint and camomile tea too.

chewing gum helps me because it makes more saliva in the mouth while you chew which is supposed to be one of the best (and natural) methods are fighting it. from what i've heard anyways.
