Hi
Just curious. How many eggs/transfers did you have before you got your BFP?
My FS says it is an average of 10 embryos transferred before one takes.
Thanks!

We transferred 20 embryo's
Best of luck with your upcoming cycle, I do hope it brings you the best news hun
Hi n2l. We had 4 transfers before our bfp. Our fs told us that we should except to have success within 6 cycles (which seemed like so many at the time).
Good luck hun.
J.
wow! that many really?! We were so lucky - only had 2 transfers & 2 babies
Really hope next one's the one n2l
really, that many? I am starting to think not doing IVF now. I don't think I could do lots of cycles... Two of my GF were lucky enough to fall pg on their first cycles.... they must be freaky!
ignoring the fact that we lost bubs in there due to hormonal issues after transfer - we had BFP's on IUI transfer number 3, IVF transfer number 3 (five embryo's in total from one stim cycle), iui transfer number 4 and transfer number 5 (7th IUI in total, but first two were cancelled due to failure to respond during stim cycle).
7 before my first bfp - only got to 6 weeks though, 9 for this one
Mad B - that's some serious good luck you've had!
Hey N2L,
In total I have had 2 x Stims (Fresh Transfers) and 4 x FET's.
It took me the following to get DS: 1 x Fresh ET, 1 x FET (lost one on the thaw here as well) and then 1 x Fresh ET (x2) to get our BFP (Singleton Pregnancy)
and the following to get #2: 3 x FET's (lost 2 on the thaw on 2nd ET) to get a BFP on our lucky last ET.
'ing you next transfer is the lucky one
11 transfers and all BFN :( but we still ended up with our miracle eventully :)
Wow, that seems really high, I remember before we started IVF our FS said most couples acheive a pregnancy within 3 transfer cycles (with ICSI)
We were extremely lucky - 1 fresh ICSI cycle resulted in our BFP, we only had one fertilised embryo though so it was a bit freaky all around
We are cycling next month for Baby #2 - after our first success its hard not to have high expectations....
That seems like a random number that s/he came up with! Surely age, fertility issues etc have a huge impact on that?!
4 embryos = 2 children for me.
I think it was an average so get people who have success first go, but then others who take 20 transfers or more.
I reckon it's a lotto!
We have done 2 icsi cycles = 2fresh tf and 1fet, 5 embryos in total.
I think the reasons this tf gave us a bfp is was day 2 tf (not day5) like our previous
sent via my vortex manipulator
Thanks everyone :)
I think it's really interesting to have this info in one spot.
And I LOVE hearing about successes
We had 2 transfers, one fresh (BFN) and then 1 FET (BFP). The FET we defrosted one Embie that did not make it and so they defrosted the Embie which became my DD. So 2 transfers and 3 Embie for me.
Janie xxx
We ha 15 TF, 29 embies all up and finially one cooked to DS
Our FS always told us 1/5 chance every transfer.
For us personally it was 3 transfers for 2 children. First transfer was FET (5 frosties only one survived the thaw) due to cancelled cycle as a result of OHSS = BFN. Then fresh cycle 2 embryos transferred resulting in DD1. 1 frosty left from that cycle = DD2.
shezzabelle - aren't the statistical odds of a successful transfer ending in a BFP different to how many times it might take?? Iykwim....
2 embies, one transfer, on our second stim cycle = DS. Our first cycle was cancelled because the embryos developed multiple nuclei so we didn't make it to the transfer stage.
For me it took 7 transfers and 13 embies. My girls are number 12 and 13, but I only discovered right before my 6th transfer I have one of the thrombophilia blood clotting disorders and after being treated with clexane, low dose aspirin and predinisine I got my BFP.
Since then I have had 2 transfers, one pregnancy but blighted ovum, one bfn and one natural pregnancy. My odds seem to have improved with my diagnosis.
So my point is :) I think it depends on your issues. If it Is mfi I think you tend to get your BFP earlier. If it is unexplained the same unless it is something they haven't yet diagnosed. If you know what the issue is and can treat it you might get your BFP sooner. It is just all so individual and sometimes all so random. GL to everyone trying xx
One transfer with two embryos brought us our 1 baby.
We only got 5 eggs at EPU and only 3 of those fertilised. The non transferred embryo didn't survive long enough to be frozen.
Hasn't been the case for me! I think it's all pretty random, although if there is something undiagnosed that can definitely slow things down.:
If it is mfi I think you tend to get your BFP earlier
I was lucky, we got our BFP on our first transfer. Day 3 embryo.
We had one transfer and got pregnant straight away, but our issue was male infertility. (Only have the one child). Day 5 embie.
Hi Ladies
We did 1 cycle of IVF and had 2x 3 day embies transfered. That resulted in a singleton pregnancy and our 4.5 month old DD2 is playing on her play mat now lol.
We are heading back in December for our first FET.
Its interesting isn't it- such different stories and good fortune!
1st fresh transfer ( 2 x blastys) BFP- misc @ 5 wks
1st FET- BFN
2nd fresh transfer ( 2 blastys)- chem preg
2nd FET- BFP- misc 8wks
So i can get bfps from ivf- just not a really sticky one yet.
Hope things go well for your next cycle N2L and you are one of the lucky ones!!!
Som of the beautiful girls on here are a testament to perseverence x
i got my BFP on the 7th transfer
with my first full stim cycle IVF/ ICSI i had 11 eggs with 7 embies. I had one fresh transfer and then 5 frozen ( one didn't survive thaw) ALL BFN:wall:
then i had to wait to do a second full stim cycle and got 12 eggs, 7 embies and got my BFP on the fresh transfer.
I was much more relaxed this time, but my FS said that most women take 2 full stim cycles to get BFP. I wanted to give up after first cycle but i am so glad we went back.
I did acupuncture this time the day after transfer and took some time off, felt a lot better emotionally and i think all these things helped :D
I am wishing you the best of luck.
 for a miracle for you. x x
I had 11 embies transferd all up over 7 actual transfers over 12mths.
I got BFP's on the 2, 3, 5 and 7 transfers but the last one is the only one that stuck around.
As annoying as it sounds FS kept saying for us it was a matter of the right embie....and he is probally right....it might be in your first cycle or not but we just had to believe we would get there eventually.
Thanks everyone!
I agree Saff, LTTTC IVF-ers are AMAZING!!!! (just don't tell the rest of the forum that we are the best ;) :p )
Right now I am off to some acu and my first scan for the cycle
Praying this is the One for me and that everyone else still waiting gets their Ones really, really soon :)
Wow some really amazing women here have gone through so many transfers.
We had 2 fresh transfers, one frozen, all day 5. DD was from the 3rd one, our frosty bub!
Looking at ttc #2 next year and can't believe we will be back on the cycle wagon again...
I admire all the LTTTC er's - the multiple transfers and cycles is an inspiration.
After reading all these stories and hearing things across the posts on this forum, I know I will be even more thankful if this works first time for me.
Really hoping BFP for everyone....
My understanding is that there is a 90% chance of falling pregnant (implantation) on your first, second or third cycle (IVF Australia).
Try not to focus too much on the statistics - everyone is individual and the way our bodies react is unique. While it is useful to know the stats cos it does help ground you, its also really important to have hope! Stay hopeful
Sorry Veronica but that is very far from correct. I wish it were true. There are so many variables that need to be taken into account - maternal age, weight, reason for infertility, egg quality, protocol....
I am not sure where you heard that stat but, sadly, it's not right.
Eta: perhaps the stat is, if it's going to work there's a 90 per cent chance it will be within three cycles??? Something like 40 per cent of couples that go through IVF wont end up with a child at the end :(
I must be a freak, 1st fresh transfer I got my BFP (although I don't have DS1 here due to an unrelated problem) then I had one frozen embie from that cycle, and that resulted in another BFP and that's DS2 here safely earth side. I think b/c I've had two successful cycles, I'm really scared of what might happen next time I do IVF. Might not be so lucky then! Plus I'm 3 years older.......GL hunni, they told me it takes an average of 3 to 4 cycles to get a BFP.
I had success on my first cycle. The FS told me that she thought it could take about 6 cycles. I had a 2 day embryo transferred. I had a lot of diagnostic tests done prior to IVF so I had treatment for some of my problems prior to IVF. I had thyroid problem, progesterone deficiency and a small amount of endo. I also did acu and saw a naturopath for about 6 months prior to my first IVF. I do feel really lucky and agree it's like lotto. I thought if I invested in testing and complimentary treatment I could up my odds, but who really knows if all of this helped. It could have just been the one good emby in the batch. Next time I might not be so lucky.
It must definitely depend on the reason you are having IVF.
Our DD was conceived during our second IVF cycle. From the two cycles we got 32 eggs, which created 17 embryos suitable for PGD testing, and of those 17 only one single embryo was chromosomally normal (our precious DD). She was implanted and luckily she's now our sweet almost-10 month old.
At our transfer appointment I asked the nurse what the chances are of her resulting in a baby and I was told 20%. BUT, here's where that gets really subjective. The 20% that we were quoted is basically the "blanket" number that covers all couples that go through IVF. So, if you take into account everyone that goes through IVF, the average chance of a single embryo transfer resulting in a baby is apparently about 20%. That number didn't take into account the fact that in our particular circumstance we both had proven fertility (I'd previously been pregnant naturally twice which resulted in my DS), I had no issues that lessen the chance of implantation and pregnancy (like hormonal problems), we already knew our embryo was chromosomally healthy (which is not the case unless you have PGD and and I was told that up to 50% of embryos at day 3 are chromosomally abnormal. Yup! That high! I was stunned!) and we were basically going through IVF for PGD reasons, not fertility reasons. So our odds were surely much higher than the 20% we were told. Then compare that to some of the amazing ladies on here that go through IVF time and time again for some pretty major reasons and their chances seem to be much lower (very sadly) than the 20%.
I actually wish that the IVF clinics would do some more research into the "real" chances based on particular circumstances. It would still be hard for them to make an accurate "guess", but at least it might be a little closer than what some people are told and give people more real expectations that they hope for.
Hi all,
I was just about to get on to BB and ask the same question- and i found this thread which is great- i just received news that my 4th transfer failed, and no one has been able to tell me what the chances are after this amount of tries. I feel a bit more heartened though reading this thread- so this is still hope for me if i continue.....i have had 1 freshie, 1 FET, then again another 1 freshie and 1 FET- all BFN. Now i have to wait 2 months to have another go at a stim cycle.......
I tried naturally for 3 years, then did 2 IUI which failed and now 4 ET's which failed. Ive been really over it and jaded by it all- i wasnt sure if there was much point continuing.....but i sure will.....but it didnt help that yesterday i was forced to go to a maternity ward to visit a relative's newborn, that didnt help me at all....but im emotionally strong now after all ive had to go through and put up with.....ive had to be.....
Thanks for all the posts. im happy to know that there's others out there who were successful after 4 tries.......and i guess i will just keep on trying....
B.
bianeczka, sorry to hear your transfer wasnt sucessful. ivf is hard, you invest so much emotion, hope & lets be honest -money - into it, its crushing when you dont get the results you so desperately want. but as you say - plenty of women in here have the bfp's after more than 4 transfers. i tend to agree that it is like a lottery, one that i hope we (and all the other ladies) win soon!
like you i TTC naturally for around 3 years, did the naturopath & TCM thing but didnt work for me. i have been doing ivf/icsi for 2 years and while i havent had success yet, i have managed to conceive twice. i have had: 1 x IUI, 4 x stim cylces = 7 transfers. i had 2 bfp's in my 2nd stim cycle (transfer no's 3 & 4), unfortunately both ending in early miscarriage. this may sound like a lot of transfers, but as i am in the unexplained category i guess i just have to keep trying. i have switched clinics recently and im hoping that a fresh approach might help. my previous FS told me that the average for a bfp is around 3 x stim cycles or 6-7 transfers. but i try not to think about the stats/odds too much (given that i am up to 4 stims & 7 transfers already!), bc i know that everyone's circumstances are different.
fingers crossed your next stim cycle in a couple of months gives you that perfect winning embryo.:crossfingers:
