I wondered when someone would post about this - there has been quite a buzz o/s for this book. My reading list is chockers ATM but i've bought a copy of this for DH for Christmas and I'll be first to read it after him. :)
Yep, I have. Am on the third book as we speak. I was the same and couldn't put them down. Very easy reading.
Have read the series twice now. Love them :)
I just finished reading these a few days ago. OBSESSED!!! Could not put them down. Loved the series. I found the 3rd book to be quite different to the first two and on one hand I didn't enjoy it as much, but on the other I found it's intensity and darkness so perfect.
LOVED these books. Hanging out for the movie now!
Read the three books in a week. Loved the series, can't wait for the movie.

Reading it right now - heard the buzz about it last year and bought the books for DH who also loved it.
Can't wait to see the film too.
Finished it yesterday, reading Catching Fire now. I'm very picky with my books and find it very difficult to like the characters (especially Twilight, blergh) but I absolutely loved this! They do have a team Edward/Jacob thing going on with Peeta & Gale, I'm so Peeta!

Oh I watched a trailer and it has Lenny Kravitz (sp) in it as Cinna, must remember to keep my drool under control.
I keep meaning to read them, especially with the movie so close, but I'm not sure of the order they go in! I'm guessing "The Hunger Games" is first? My local library has something like 50 people in the waiting list :o
Teni, it's The Hunger Games, then Catching Fire, then Mockingjay. If you have a smartphone, or tab or Kindle or something it's seriously cheap. $7 or so from the Kindle store.

I do all my reading on the phone or tab with the Kindle app now, it's so easy. Don't need a lamp and I can easily read with one hand. Very handy when I'm up in the dark feeding DD!
Lenny Kravitz was on Ellen the other day, he looks fantastic as Cinna. I can't imagine anyone but him in that role, and Woody Harrelson and Donald Sutherland seem so perfect for Haymitch and Snow. I think it's great reading the books and knowing what the movie characters look like, I have them in my head so I won't be disappointed when the movie comes out.

I thought I had posted in here but appears not - I am listening to the series on audiobooks currently almost at the end of Catching Fire - I love it, can't wait for it to be on at the cinema. Rarely go with DH these days as times are just inconvenient but will be making the effort for this one - he was the one who put me on to it - not sure where he heard of it from. After film I will read the books (although the audiobooks are unabridged still will be nice to read it).
I read a newspaper piece somewhere that described it as "contestants take place in a reality TV show" - it had never occurred to me before is like a reality TV show - seems funny playing that angle because really is not like that at all. Have seen the actress who is playing Katniss in the X-Men movie and also in The Hamster with Mel Gibson and think she will work quite well. Stanley Tucci is always good and can see him as Caesar.
Oh I love the Hunger Games wiki - I am always forgetting things and I can look it up on there e.g. yesterday I needed to look up "Morphlings"
I'm halfway through Mockingjay now - I started the series on Thursday but I had to take lots of breaks - and oh my goodness, so good! I'm already planning to incorporate part of "Rue's Lullaby" into a tattoo somewhere in the future :lol: I cried at that part, which is huge for me. I've read a lot of book in my life, but haven't cried since Mary-Ann and Logan broke up in the Babysitters Club :chair:

I started reading them today and am half way through book two... I need sleep but I need to finish the book!!!
Are they making all 3 movies? Or the one movie all 3 books?

I know they're making at least two movies. I'm guessing they'll see how #1 turns out, and then decide whether to combine #2 and #3 into one movie or not. I doubt they'll have any trouble with box office sales, so bring it on!:
I was on Amazon before, looking for some Pinky McKay to add to my new Kindle (shh, don't tell DH I bought one :lol:), and the only other book under "customers who bought this also bought this..." was The Hunger Games :rofl: I guess we gentle loving mums enjoy our post-apocalyptic fantasy novels about teenagers killing each other then :p

Saw the film this morning, didn't disappoint but I think you can see film before reading book without it spoiling it. Not the best ever book-film adaptation but pretty good.
I have heard they are thinking about spilling the remaining two into three movies, haven't finished mockingjay yet to comment but would have thought three movies would be enough.
My brother is staying at moment so we went to a 9:45am showing at he watched the kids - I can see myself getting to cinema alot the next few weeks :-)

I read all three books in a week. It's a bit scary how addicted I got, but I loved them. There were a few parts in the final books I wish hadn't happened. Obviously in these books loads of people die but there were a few characters I wish had been kept.
I reckon they could the three books in three movies. They're not really that long and I don't think an extra movie is justified. Reading the books knowing there will be movies, I could kind of pick the parts that would be taken out to shorten it.

WYSIWYG - that's funny. Suzanne Collins is a scriptwriter so she adapted it for screen herself. You would think that would make it a better film version.
TBH I really can't imagine how they would split the next 2 books over 3 movies, esp because the final has got a lot less plot-drive to it than the other two....
To be honest I hadn't heard much about it. I have NO idea what the books are about but on all of your glowing reviews, I have just downloaded onto my Kindle.

I went last night to the movies, kids were so well behaved, mums n bubs sessions pffft ;)
Anyway, i had hardly heard anything about it and we went to see it on a whim.
I really enjoyed it and now I am starting the books as I must know what happens!

I must be the only one, loved the books, thought the movie was sooo disappointing. It was shallow, full of gaps, lacking in pathos and the casting choices and acting for Katniss and Peeta just fell far short for me. Just one person's opinion though I guess. I do seem to be alone in it. Well, me and my mum, lol.
Shades- I def though the movie was lacking.. Could have easily gone longer as it cast over parts that I thought were important and they didn't even bother including them..
I enjoyed the actress for Katniss but not Peter...
I really hope if they do the other two books they don't cram them into the one movie like I have heard they may do.. That would miss so much!!!

Is interesting DH both had differing views on what could have been in/left out - but it was already quite a long film - I felt the last portion was rushed, but would have needed to be of LOTR length to give more detail.
Also some of the more interesting/deep stuff in the book is in Katniss thoughts, which without her doing a voice over would be quite difficult to get across on screen.
I thought the contrast between actors playing Peeta and Gale, was about right - would be interested to hear what actors/actresses others would have liked to see in the film?
I think the film is a good intro to the books, and as I recommended to someone on FB if you haven't read book see the film first then read it as book adds whole new level to the story over the film (only problem being you will prob want to read Catching Fire and Mockingjay before the film/films come out).
Also I wonder how much from the first book will crop up in the future films - it all depends how they have done the screenwriting I suppose, but in LOTR for example, scenes from first book appeared in the second and third movie - so when watched as a whole did cover more of the books than each of the films viewed independently.
It's funny because one I the things I thought was important that they missed (well they glanced over it) and could have easily included was food. It was made to be such a big thing in the book and showed how different the district and the capitols were and how extravagant it all was...

I agree Beatrix - if you had only seen the film then why it is called The Hunger Games is not clear at all. It should have been easy to explain a bit more too - when Gale says he is in the reaping 42 times would have only needed a little more dialogue to explain about you go in extra times to get more food and therefore the Hunger Games is harder on the poor than the rich etc.
Really! That is interesting! Why would they leave that out? Hmm.:

That's exactly what my sister and I said when we came out from seeing it. I thought they'd explore a few more things & characters just a tiny bit more.:
Yet they make a big deal about Liam Hemsworth losing weight and not being so buff so that he looked 'hungry'. Maybe it was a wasted effort if they didn't bother to explain it properly.
