Love love love my ereader!!
I have a Sony one (650 model) in silver and I love it.
There is a smaller version too... The software isn't fantastic but I only have to update it with new books once every six months so it doesn't concern me too much.
I took it to Hawaii with me and it's great in the sun and you can still see the screen perfectly. Buy one!
i bought a kindle today! there are several people at work who have one and they are all raving about them so i thought why not! trying to navigate thru it now but so excited. from what i have seen of the screen it looks fantastic. easy to read and it appears easy to navigate thru too
i have a kindle, i adore it!!! best gadget ive bought. ive got the kindle 3 with wifi, so light and easy to chuck in ur bag on your way out the door incase u get stuck waiting somewhere.
great battery life, and the book selection is awesome on amazon. very easy to use too
My GF has a Kindle and absolutely loves it.
I have a Kobo. I love mine, it's handy on the train and reading in bed. You can only download from the Kobo store, so can be limiting as they sometimes take a little extra longer to the newest realease of my favourites authors. It charges via USB cable and the battery will usually last a whole book without having to re-charge. Kobo was initially bought out Borders, even though Borders have gone, you can still download direct from Kobo. The Kobo originally came with 100 hundred books already pre-loaded, mostly classics. Not sure if this is still the same now that Borders here are no longer trading.
I do miss having a 'real' book, and still quite often read those. I also use book stores for my Kobo shopping list. Go in a browse and then come and download.
They are quite a bit cheaper than the 'real' thing most of the time.
I just bought my mum the new sony one that got released last week. Its red and has wifi etc...Haven't used it yet but can't wait till she does.
Can anyone share where the best (and cheapest) place to buy books is a I have no clue??

Thanks girls!
I'm looking at getting a kindle, and think I might wait till the end of the month to get the kindle touch with wi-fi. I love reading and don't think it will fully replace books for me, but we're off overseas next year, so figured it will save luggage space. In fact I could have done with it last night as I was sat in the dark in DS's room waiting for him to go to sleep, so it would have been good to read.
Skybie - I like the idea of having it with you just in case you get stuck waiting somewhere, or if the kids fall asleep in the car, but its not bulky like a book.
DH has said I have to wait till christmas! But I want it now
is DS's room completely dark? if it is the kindles arent backlit. although i think u can get cases for them with built in lights
A few people in my family have them and love them - they have Kindles. My parents have one each so when they go 4WD'ing they can both sit up and read. Theirs are linked together so they only need to download a book once and can share it (same as if they bought a real copy). My sister has a little light as part of her cover on her Kindle so she can read it in the dark.
I think they sound awesome, it will probably be on my Christmas list, but maybe next year.
Sorry to steal your thread Sam, but for those who have an e reader, how much do the books cost for it?

on kindle theres stacks of free ones, i just read the reviews before i download them or not. they start at .99cents and go up to bout $10ish dollars
i just bought one of my all time favourite books for $6 from amazon. depends on where you buy them from.
skybie - i didnt get any free books on my kindle
Just a note for those with iPhones - there's an app called Goodreader that will read/reformat any .doc or .PDF file for easy reading on the iPhone. Kobo has an app as well and there are others too I think. You can 'acquire' free PDFs of a lot of new and old books fairly easily if you're Internet savvy.
Teresa you have to download them off amazon
Where do you buy an e-reader from .....**** Smith...that kind of place??? and what is the cost?
yep smiths have them, i think the kindles are about 220 there
Ok. Tell me about these ereader things? Doesn't it kill your eyes reading an entire novel on a computer kinda screen?
Helle, its like looking at a book (well the kindle anyway)
its not backlit like computers and ipods ect, they use whats called electronic ink, its almost the same as reading off paper :)
Oooh... Maybe I want one too XD
My DH and I really want to get one but it's a bit of a dilemma cause if we get Kindle, you can only buy books from Amazon as the Kindle only uses their format. But if we get another brand, there's more choice but the books are more expensive than Amazon ones.
Sent from my iPod touch - sorry for any mistakes!
Don't you miss holding a book?
not really, i usually read lying down and find books akward lol
Sorry to hijack SammyRo, think this thread has just talked me into getting one for DH's birthday in November, think will be going for the kindle.
Doesn't it limit you to get the Kindle and you can only get books from Amazon? Wouldn't it be better to get a Sony and then you can download from everywhere? I have had a look and Amazon doesn't have all the books I want to start with. WDYT?
What do you ladies do for light when you read in bed? Is it light enough with something like a bedside lamp, or do you need a special book light or something? Thinking of getting one for my mum for Christmas and she is a big reader in bed. Thanks
I don't have a Kindle, but I have an Acer Iconia (like an Ipad) downloaded a pile of books to it from all different sites. I can use the Kobo app, the Dymocks app, the Amazon app etc etc etc. Acer has all the other "fun" benefits too like being able to play games, listen to music, watch movies etc when you are sick of reading.
I use it mainly to read though, in bed. Handy when you are sick although the other day I put two movies from my computer onto my USB and then plugged the USB into the Acer and watched them in bed. The screen brightness is adjustable, so you can adjust it so it is comfortable for your eyes and you can read in the day or in the night :) You can also toggle it so it is a black page with white writing, but that is a bit hard on the eyes.
I don't think I could ever go back to a real book again.
with the kindle you arent just limited to the amazon store. there is a website that you can download books for the kindle for free but you need to download another program which is like a library or something like that.
Ok, im getting me one of these. I want one that's got electronic ink but does any format of ebook. At the moment I am using an adobe program (which will take any format) on my laptop but the backlit is killing me and its not very portable...
