My beautiful baby girl is 6 months today, so the solids begin :(
What was the first solid you gave your baby / what do you recommend (NB - I won't be giving her anything that is not fresh - eg, no bottle/jar/packet food).
Thanks
:)

I gave all of my kids rice cereal first.
Baby #1 had fresh pear
Baby #2 had steamed brocolli
DS was farex.... we did the puree diet to start with - regret that decision.
DD was watermelon because she stole it from my plate. We did BLS/BLW with her and it's the best decision I have ever made for the kids food wise.
Avocado, was pretty messy as I just gave it to her in strips and it was a bit tricky for her to grab onto.
I think this time I would go with something a little more solid... not sure what though!
DD I tried her on that farex cereal with a bit of breastmilk mixed in - which she hated. The first food she actually ate opposed to spat everywhere was mashed banana
Some penne pasta with a little bit of home made bolognaise sauce for #1.
#2 was garlic mashed potatoes.
#3 was curried sausage and rice.
Clearly we dont do things by halves lol they eat whatever we eat so the day they pretty much screamed the house down til they got their own plate was the day they started eating. I never cared if they smooshed it, wore it, stuck it up their nose. All part of the fun!
I have heard that avocado is a good one to introduce early because of the soft texture and creaminess, and because of all the good fats etc.
Will be keeping that one in mind for DD in a few months' time!
*like*
I can't remember with DS... I'm thinking it was either avocado or steamed carrots and broccoli.
BLS is awesome and I attribute it as to why my DS is a such a great eater. Sure he is picky about new things but if Daddy likes it he likes it .
That means Daddy is learning to "like" tomatoes and a few other things he is generally averse to on the days DS decides he doesn't :P
DS1 had rice cereal just like all the MCHN told me to. He hated it. I pretty much think he ate banana first.
DS2 - well, i'm not sure?! He picked up all sorts of things of our plates and shoved them in his mouth. I found finger food and BLS so easy. I wish i had done it earlier. It's messy, for sure. And you do sometimes get funny looks as your 9 month old is chewing a lamb shank, but it's made life for me easier and DS2 is confident and happy to try all sorts of foods (and some non-foods too!)
So, i recommend reading up a bit on BLS. I wish i had. It doesn't matter if you don't start her on solids today! Remember * FOOD IS FOR FUN UNTIL THEY ARE ONE *
That crappy rice cereal ...... OMG she hated it I tried it and after I tasted it i decided I hated it too.
After that it was puree pear.
A steamed carrot stick - I'm another BLS fan and I have a great little eater now.
I gave DD rice cereal to start with and then mashed sweet potato - she loved the potato much more than the cereal stuff.

DS1 was a piece of vegemite toast he swipped from me, then purree apple, pear and custards (he was about 5 1/2 months I think)
DS2 was peach, he lunged at a peach I was eating and copped a face full  its stil 1 of his fav foods, then he did finger foods, never liked anything in a spoon- funny cause now he loves baby food being fed to him ( thanks MIL)
DD is getting humoured, she screams when everybody is eating but is only 4 mths, I feed her EBM on a spoon, 3-5 spoons and shes happy
We're a BLS house here and DD first solids were broccoli & pumpkin :)
Rice cereal with EBM. then I began to mix in some pureed vegies - greens. I did vegies before fruit so DS didn't get used to sweet things too quickly
it was going to be steamed vegies but DS got his hands on some bread first.
after that it was either porridge (the real stuff, not the baby stuff) or yoghurt :dunno:
rice cereal... followed by pumpkin and sweet potato because he hated the rice cereal ^^;
DD was rice cereal which she hated so we did BLS but she had no real interest in food until 7-8months, so it's not especially important to start at 6 months on the dot.
DS, for some reason I doubted myself and made him rice cereal too...then I remembered how crap it tasted and went to BLS again. I think it was toast and par cooked carrot to start.
Banana and avocado smashed together! She couldn't get enough of the stuff!
Looks like she'll be having pumpkin tonight ... feeding herself though fromthe slop I put on her tray... see how she goes. we did the BLS with DD#2 too.
spag bog lol. Marta decided to reach in and grab a fistful at 4.5 months and we kinda went from there :)
We fell into doing Baby Led Solids as, well, she demanded it lol
We did BLS with DD, I think her first thing was steamed broccoli and he loved it! So glad we went down the BLS path.
