Best long wearing makeup/foundation for hot weather- revlon?

I'm almost due to get some more makeup. Or foundation. You know, that skin coloured stuff that makes your skin look slightly less flawed. :redface: I currently have (for the last 10+ years) a bottle of revlon "new complexion makeup oil control", which i like and the colour i have matches my skin perfectly (i think it does anyway).

But, Tree Town is super hot, and I really need to have makeup on everyday for work. And I don't want to have to be reapplying it throughout the day/evening, though a touch up with a compact would be okay. I've used the revlon liquid to powder compact many moons ago, but that doesn't seem to have much staying power either on my combination skin.

I like revlon, only because they have a shade that I like, but am open to suggestions of anything else to have a looky at in the shops. Or what to avoid! What are the mousse makeups like?

Lastly, hopefully something not too expensive, or that is going to take me all morning to apply! Thank you my made up pretties! need some serious help!

If you like Revlon, try Colourstay. You can get one for dry skin and one for oily. I get at least 8 hours wear, with a little powder to help set it.

Higher-end options:

M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid Foundation. I use this on almost all of my bridal clients as it lasts all day, even in hot weather. It's buildable too, so you can have medium or full coverage.

Estée Lauder Double Wear (original) or Double Wear Light. This is the ultimate for staying power! Exxy though.

I would suggest you stear clear of mousse formulas as the light texture means they don't have the stamina of liquid or powder. I find that the skin's natural oils break through quickly too, leaving them patchy as the day goes on.

If I think of other options I'll pop back in. Hope you find something that suits you well.

PS: meant to add that you could also consider using a primer with your current foundation. I know it's another step and definitely not one of those 'must have' products, but it does help your base last. There are plenty around - worth getting samples/trying a few, as some people react to the silicones that are often in primers.

I second the M.A.C, I love it! It's about $50 if you purchase from Myer, I got mine from Ebay for $36.

Thank you Buffy and Heather! I have heard of MAC, and thought it was a bit pricey, but for $36, I think that's pretty much on par with revlon prices. Thank you, now I can go have a good look well armed. And maybe at some primers or powder too. :)

I used to use Revelon age defying foundation all the time and then we moved to the middle of nowhere, it was hot as and my makeup was always on my sunnies etc......so gross! I tried several different types and nothing worked til I found ISSADA in our hair dressers shop. I got the Mineral Liquid foundation, goes on as liquid creme and turns into powder (if that makes sense) so it never runs or gets oily and I don't need powder also. But I do have a mineral powder for extra cover when needed or for just when ever and it's actually covergirl from woolworths retails for about $10 and is awesome. The best powder puff thingy and goes on great.

Netix if you love the Revlon keep using it but buy a mattifying primer. Loreal Studio Secrets primer in the little pink jar is marketed at dry skin but I've found it one of the best mattifying primers I've tried (I've got oily combination skin). They do a primer aimed at oily skin too but the pink one in the pot is heaps better in my opinion.

Or if you want something more luxe the BECCA resurfacing primer is also excellent.

I'm also on the look out for a new foundation even though I'm now a play at home mummy I hardly ever wear it! I've liked Innoxa (sp) in the past and was going to get that again. I currently have one of those powder brush on mineral makeup things but I dont' think that it really covers that well and I like the look of a liquid foundation that gives that dewy look rather than the matt look of a powder mineral make up.

Hi cherished - hmmmmm, I'd describe it as a satin finish, so it's a 'natural matte'. Not completely flat like a matte foundation though, if you get what I mean?

For something with decent coverage but more on the dewy side, you could try the Revlon Colourstay version for dry skin or:

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation - this is one of my new favourites, good staying power but still looks like skin
Jemma Kidd Light As Air Liquid Foundation (available at Kit Cosmetics, in Myer, DJs and online)
M.A.C Select SPF Liquid Foundation

I don't work for M.A.C, I promise - I've just tried most of their products and use a lot of it in my kit :)

I use an illiminnator (think that's what it's called) over my foundation for that dewy look.
I haven't found a foundation that gives that dewy look AND provides a full coverage.
Any ideas Buffy?

I also live in a hot area in QLD so sometimes 'dewy' can end up looking 'sweaty'. Maybe one of the dewy ones would be good for winter and the MAC for summer :D I also have skin that reacts to everything! A dermatologist has told me its seborrheic dermatitis, would the ones you've suggested be ok? I guess that's a tricky question really and a matter of trial and error... It's just an expensive process! Sorry Netix I feel like I'm hi-jacking your thread!

Oh, you mean the holy grail? LOL. Bourjois Healthy Mix or Jemma Kidd Light As Air would come pretty close I reckon, worth checking out. Otherwise you could try a cream or gel foundation - not cream-to-powder or gel-to-powder, one of the more traditional ones. It's a little on the expensive side, but Laura Mercier Silk Creme is gorgeous, or M.A.C Studio Sculpt. I'm still learning how to work with this one, you only need a really small amount but boy, does it cover. Like Studio Fix Fluid, it's 'satin' or natural matte but creamier.

I know cherished, it's an expensive pain trying lots of things to find the right one! Especially if you have sensitive skin. Do you know if it's a particular ingredient that makes you react or is it a bit random? I suggest getting samples from counters or stores and taking them home to try. Good salespeople will (and should!) do this for you. It also means you can see the foundation in different lights, rather than those hideous fluro ones in stores. Always, always check your foundation in natural light before you buy it. Don't buy on the spot! Boy, have I learnt that the hard way over the years. FYI I've never had any clients that have had issues with M.A.C foundations but you never know, so definitely go the sample route if you can.

Illuminators are lovely - am sure Emma will explain why she likes the one she uses. My only tip there would be to choose something shimmery, not glittery.

Eep sorry, hope I haven't overwhelmed you with everything!

You don't need to moisturise and use a primer unless your skin is super dry. As a general rule, use one or the other - especially if you react to things, the less product on your face, the better. I only use primer if I want extra staying power on my clients e.g. brides or if it's gonna be stinkin' hot. Yep, it's exactly like primer for paint - I describe mine as 'spackfilla' :lol:

RE: Colourstay, try both the Dry and the Oily when you're in the store. You might find you like the texture of one better than the other. If you're combo-dry, go Dry; combo-oily, go oily.

RE: illuminator, there are couple of ways you can use it depending on whether it's a liquid, cream or powder. If it's a liquid or cream, I apply it straight after foundation so it becomes part of the skin. Heaps more natural that way so you don't turn into a disco ball. If it's a powder, apply it after powder products (like blush). Put it wherever you want to draw light - the high points of the face, like cheekbones, bridge of the nose and cupid's bow of your lips. Again though, just like primer, this is one of those things that's pretty to have but not an essential (in my view).

RE: reactions, they can happen immediately or a week or two after. That happens to me with skincare all the time. I get all excited over some new cleanser because my skin looks great for a week and then bam, redness and itching. I think it has something to do with the skin cells turning over. Apparently it takes a full 'cyle' or about 30 days for your skin to get used to a new routine. However I would never suggest you stick it out if something is really irritating you.

This Laura Mercier brand seems like a go-er.
So far, I've been recommended an eye brow pencil, a tinted moisturizer and a foundation!

My illuminator is from the body shop- it's def shimmery.
I use it to highlight my cheekbones and eyebrow bones ( what are they called?!?)
It does give me a dewy-celebrity- look.

Cherished- have you tried the Body Shop foundation for sensitivity?
I don't find any of them to be full coverage though :dunno:

Mineral foundations are great for sensitive skins but they tend not to last quite as long in humid climes or if you have really oily skin. I used to use an Ultraceuticals one that was great though.

PS I also love the MAC Studio Fix Fluid - or I did when my skin was oilier. Now I'm pregnant my skin still gets some shine but it is a lot drier.

Bummer Erin. Pushy counter staff are the worst, and I hate spending a ton of money when it doesn't work out :( did you take them back??

I'm a big sweater (not in the jumper sense lol!), but I find liquid foundation by body shop to be great, then I use powder on top to set it. They did my wedding make up 5 & 1/2 years ago and I haven't worn another brand since.

I sweat like a bloke, and live in Central QLD, so I know all about heat and humidity ruining your carefully applied face! I personally found Revlon to be a bit too chalky on my face (I always got the maskline around the jaw/neck no matter how carefully I blended) so I don't use it at all :(
Mousse foundations, I have found, are terrible - have tried a few different brands and they just melt right off my face within minutes - I don't have oily skin, either!

My advice for the perfect warm-weather foundation on a budget, is Maybelline SuperStay (yes, I have raved about it a million times over but I seriously love it!) :) I use an Olay SPF15+ daily moisturiser when I get out of the shower to prime, then apply the foundation with my fingers or a sponge and finish with a light dusting of translucent powder to set it. It seriously stays on all day, doesn't melt or rub off and doesn't give me zits, which I love :) I can apply it at 6pm when getting ready to go out for a big night, party on until the wee hours, pass out on the couch with a full face on and wake up still looking flawless apart from the panda eyes... it's great stuff, and really cheap, too!

So much info, I'm going to have to write it all down before I go to the shops! We have a Priceline in town and two chemists I guess if Priceline don't have a brand. And shop assistants; prepare to be annoyed! Lol
