DD1 is off to hospital

As some of you know from my previous threads that DD1 has an eating disorder. She is grossly underweight and now weighs only 46kg. At 175 cm tall she looks so frail.

We went to see the specialist today and DD1 saw her by herself for over an hour. When I was called in, it was to be told that DD1 has agreed to go to hospital tomorrow so that she can be looked after and fed. We are talking about a 5-6 week stay here. Inside I'm :dance: but on the outside I have to show my normal self. I'm very proud that she has made the decision to start to fix herself and I will tell her that but I'm also scared that she won't follow through and will leave treatment before it is finished. I'm also a bit scared about what they may find when they run the tests that they have to. They are going to check her heart and bone density, her brain and chemical balance and her hormonal levels. After suffering with the disorder for over 7 years she is bound to have some problems but I hope they are not to bad.

Ive not seen your other thread, but that is so fantastic that she's made such a decision to get help. I can only imagine how proud of her you must be for making that decision :)

Thank you so much everyone. DD1 is a bit scared but is still following through on the hospital stay. We haven't heard from the dr yet but I'm sure we will. DD1 has gone to her place to get her pillows and blankets so she feels more comfortable and then will be coming back here to pack a bag. I'm feeling a tad anxious this morning my self. I so want her to get better but am struggling with the fact that I can't help her any more and it is now up to her and the dr. I'm still glad though that she is finally getting some help

I would imagine she's very scared. What a huge decision she's made! You should be very proud, as I'm sure you are :) I can understand how you'd be feeling a little bit helpless though. She's always going to be your baby and you want to fix things for her:hug:

Sorry everyone, been very busy. Sarah got admitted last Friday and she had to have a nasogastric tube put in straight away. They fed her like this until Monday and then started her on a proper eating plan. She hasn't put on any weight yet but they think when they weigh her tomorrow that she will. Unfortunately she is going to sign herself out on Friday as she wants to move to Canberra next week. All her dr can do is meet with her boyfriend and tell him what Sarah is supposed to eat, how much she has to eat and when she has to eat it. She will also give Sarah some names of places to be monitored in Canberra. I was so hopeful about this treatment but now I realise that Sarah needs to do this on her own. I'm numb and hurt but am cutting the apron strings. In this way she is responsible for what happens to herself. I can only hope she follows the eating plan and gets healthier. Her head is still very much in the anorexic mode though as she keeps on telling me that they are going to make her fat with all this food. Wish me luck with the struggles still to come

Kim I thought that this might have to be one of those things that needs a few goes before she finally gets 100% well. I hope she continues with it when she gets to Canberra :hug: It must be a huge worry for you :hug: I also hope her boyfriend is a big support for her.

Doh, I only just saw this.
Hope everything is OK.

Have often thought about your DD, it hurts to hear of someone else going through an ED. I'm so glad I'm over the worst of mine, but it still comes up every now and then.
