Life truly sux sometimes! *loss*

I found out yesterday that one of the babies from my mother's group died on Sunday from a rare strain of meningitis. He had turned 1 in October. I had spoken to his mum last Wednesday when she rang to say they wouldn't be at mother's group last week because he had a temp of 39.5 that she couldn't bring down. At that point she had taken him to two doctors who told her it was a virus and there was nothing they could do and she had been to the children's hospital when they sent her home and told her to keep up fluids and panadol.

He had a seizure Sunday morning and was admitted to hospital where he had another seizure and died in his mum's arms.

My heart is breaking for my friend. I don't know what to do or say. It all seems so inadequate. I spent yesterday evening calling all the other girls to let them know. Such a horrible conversation to have. We are all in such shock.

He was a lovely little boy.

Oh no. That is heart breaking and so traumatic for you and all your mothers' group and of course the family.

Could maybe all of the mothers group put in for flowers? Or cook her up a few meals for the family?

It's so hard to know what to do :hug: being a friend for her is the most important thing.

I am really sorry hun. That is such sad news I wish you did not have to tell.

I'm so sorry to hear of your friend's little boy, my heart goes out to his family. It's such a tragedy losing a young child, no one should walk in those shoes.

I agree with suggestion of cooking up meals and dropping over to family, and also just dome general things bread milk fruit and snacks.

Yeah, I'm going to drop by some meals this afternoon. Thanks Feeb for the suggestion of some basic groceries as well. We are going to put in to have a star named for him.

It's so tragic. Noone should ever lose a child!

You are such a good friend to let everyone know and coordinate the meal drop.

I will be holding my son extra tight tonight. He had a 39.5 fever a month or so back, it was scary but it broke eventually.

It's hard to know what to say, I find that setting up a food roster and dropping food at the door for as long as the community can, speaks volumes of love to the people in mourning. Perhaps you could get the women of your group on board to set up a food roster. I had a friend who lost a little one last year, our community was able to feed them for 6 weeks, they appreciated it so much.

Again Glenny I am so sorry for the family but I am also so sorry for you and your mothers group. So hard to know what to do. But you are such a good friend and the meals you are cooking are real and very helpful.

This is so sad. A friend of mine lost her daughter last year in very tragic circumstances it will be 12mths this Thursday. She has told me what has meant the most to her is the people who still call, text & visit after those 1st few months. The people who don't treat her like she will break & aren't afraid to say are you ok.
Just be there & always remember it's better to say something than nothing out of feeling unsure of what to say.

Update time- My friend contacted me yesterday to let me know she is 14 weeks pregnant!! Obviously she is feeling a lot of mixed emotions but I am so happy for her and her hubby that she is expecting this little rainbow baby!! I know bubs big brother will be watching over them all!!

So, so sad. :(
