Do you have a budget for christmas pressies?

i have no idea how much ive spent on our girls :redface: we dont buy much during the year so tend to splurge a little at christmas time..
the only budget i have is for our family KK pressies.
So do you have a budget?

I'm a bit like you for our baby boy. oh o. Lol. Yeah pretty naughty but we really like to spoil our little man and we buy things as we see them & add them to our little stock pile for him. Can't help it lol :) for each other though we do put a limit so we buy each other similar value things (about $100 each) and relatives we only buy gifts for who we see which aren't too many but we only buy small gesture type gifts (hampers etc) - no more than say $30 a couple, but it's around that and not exactly budgeted as much.

i tend to find a present that is appropriate for one of my brothers kids, and that sets the budget for the other two!

Family KK (adults) is set based on what my aunt can afford. She has intellectual disability, on the pension etc, so would like to spend around $10 per adult - so we decided a few years ago to make it a combined value and all do the KK thing. it works pretty well - provided you can work out what to buy! my bro and his wife are painful to buy for!

We don't really have a budget for our kids - we just try to keep it reasonably equal between them, and try not to go too over board because all the birthdays are reasonably close to christmas too. For everyone else (ie, our parents and siblings) we budget $20 each (big family - we are both one of six kids) for neices and nephews $10 ea. And we only buy for those family members we actually see on the day.

Not really but within reason. Our kids well DH says i am OTT but pfft I love it and can't help it, I buy lots during the year and add to a stash that gets bigger and bigger! I still have stuff in cupboard that I bought last year for kids and never gave them as they had plenty at Christmas!

With family I tend to pick a gift for someone and go with it and not worry to much about spending more on someone else, as if the gift is right thats what matters.

on this topic - what do people spend on friends?? close friends and their kids? last year i bought for four very spesh friends (all from BB), and their kidlets - this year, we're just not in a position to buy for many people at all, but i have one very close friend here, and her son. we have an idea for a gift for him, but no idea what to do for my friend! just looked for something similar to what i got my BB friends last Christmas, but there is just nothing that has the right meaning this year!

In the past we have not had a budget, but this year we do. It is more of an overall Christmas budget, so includes food, the tree, presents etc. Not allocating any set amount per child, as we are getting what we think they will like, getting the right gift for each girl, as opposed to just spending a set amount.

Our KK value is $75, so $150 per couple and I spend $50 on each niece
I started Christmas shopping in march lol!

I have to budget myself or it could get way out of hand ;)
I spend about $100-$150 on each of my kids (and with seven that quickly adds up)
$20-$25 on my nieces and nephews.
Usually a $20 bottle of wine for each couple (sisters and parents)

I'm actually sitting down writing my christmas list right now....normally I'd have a list of people we're buying for and an approximate budget for each then hit the shops to see what grabs my fancy, but with a newborn this year am tryong to be a bit more organised - so am coming up with ideas and sourcing where to get stuff from on the net. Have also bought a few pressies online this year :)

the kids are getting a swing set so $100 each lol thats its and a $50 pressie from my mum each

Cranky I've bought about 80% online this year! Love it!!

I don't buy for many friends as tend to just buy for their kids instead as it all adds up. But the friends I do buy for spend $20 - $50 depending what it is and if its a joint pressie with partner.

Friends kids $5 - $30 depending on what I just bought some awesome gifts in Riot art and craft that are on special and got great sets for $2.99 and $4.99 normally $10 - $20 each for these sets!

For DD, I've always done the whole "one thing you want, one thing you need, one thing to wear, one thing to read" which usually ends up being a couple of hundred although I don't really set a hard budget for it and that's what DP and I are continuing with this year. She gets so much anyway as she is the only grandchild on both sides and also has step-grandparents. Me and DP aren't doing gifts, we are going to have a super extravagent date night instead.

Parents and siblings we spend about $50 each, other family I give a $5-10 donation gift (and family knows that instead of gifts, they can donate in my honor to the Australian Marine Conservation Society), there aren't any other children in the next generation yet so all adults.

Me and my friends don't buy eachother gifts, we all go out somewhere nice for dinner instead.

we do not buy for friends or their kids. (although I am taking part in a secret santa this year with my belly buddies group - so I guess that is the exception)

We dont have a budget per say but we have set limits on how many presents. We've learnt over the years how many pressies are really enough for the girls. (Actually each year I always find pressies, for every event, that I forgot to bring out of hiding. This year both girls missed out on 2 easter pressies each, DD1 has 3 bday pressies that I forgot, DD2 had 2 bday pressies that I forgot to give them. Last year we had pressies for them left under the tree for days!! :lol: )
So this year we have set a number of pressies for each of the girls then theres the joint pressies. For ourselves we like to spoil ourselves because we dont normally shout ourselves anything special through out the year. We make things for other relo's and friends and buy few things.

I buy things throughout the year for Moo, I still have stuff from Mattel factory trips last year that I haven't given him! So I don't really have a budget for him. I don't spend as much as it might look like because it's mostly sale items or Mattel bargains.

With family we only buy for my sister's kids now and I generally spend $100 on the three of them.

DH and I used to spend a lot on each other but since we've had Moo we don't really exchange xmas gifts. We'd rather spend more on Moo!

we spent 100 on each child, 50 each for siblings/parents, and 20 each for kids/nieces/godsons

I don't budget for DS (and DD now, but she isn't really getting much), but really should as I end up going way over the top.
Like some others, my DS has never gotten much during the year so it doesn't hurt to spend a little extra at Christmas time.
I think I have been good this year and probably spent around $500 but I wouldn't have a clue without actually looking. A $300 trampoline in there started it off...

I tend to spoil my sisters if I can as they are same age as DS and mum spoils DS so it's fun to spoil back, think I have spent bit over $100 on them each.
My brothers normally get $30 ish gift cards to rebel sport because I lack any creativity.
Then, extended' family (on my side) gifting has been ruled out this year because it is too financially demanding on those who really can't afford it.

I have never really brought for friends either. Wouldn't know where to start. I am in a SS with my Belly Buddies and thoroughly enjoyed spending money on my giftee as these wonderful women are my village and I don't know what I would do without them. Every one of them (and there is 25 now i think :lol:) deserve a present more than any of my 'tanglible' IRL friends so it was well deserved and spent.

We spend about $30 per adult in our families (though my sister always crys poor and spends way less than us - last year I got a 2nd hand glass bowl and my husband got a packet of cocopops - vent over). We are doing a secret santa with our 4 closest friends, limit of $70.

Our DS's will get lots of presents from others so we spend about $20 each on them. Everyone else seems to spend way more than this!

We don't really budget for the kids but just them whatever they need, like this year Iz needs a bike, but I will end up getting smaller things too for both of them as stocking fillers and J will probably get some Thomas stuff for his tracks. Around $50 each for my family and for DH's family we are doing a $30 kris kringle and then a $15 fun gift for a snatch and grab. We do a snatch and grab for our friendship group to which is around $15-$20.

$50 for family (includes mine and dh's family so that's a lot) and then 20 on nephews and unlimited on the kids lol. I think I've spent about 100 on each ds and dd this year. I always try and make things, and buy things they might need too. Dd's birthday is boxing day, so it's always hard to know how to split the gifts. I was going to get her a bike for her g'day, but she asked Santa for one at David jones, so I'd better give it to her for Xmas.

My birthday is the 29th and my sisters the 31 St of December, so by new year we're all broke!

For DD...no budget but what DH doesn't know also doesn't hurt...he is a bit of a scrooge when it comes to Xmas (don't think he had much of a family Christmas celebration like I did).
We buy her one main present (a bike this year) and then stocking fillers which can be from $1 to $15 but they add up!

As for others we now only buy for our parents and then the kids now we all have children.....its a $50 limit on each present but its really up to $50 so whatever you can find is fine....

Not really for the girls but I try and keep it under $200, DH and spend around $100-$150 on each other but if its something special or something for around the house we will spend more. The girls have about $15pp to each buy mummy and daddy a gift and a gift for each other

DH's family decided to buy gifts for kids only at christmas as we were ending up giving each other vouchers which seemed a bit pointless and everyone was happy for this. DH only has one niece we see so we spend $50+ on her. We will probably get DH's parents a bottle of wine or something small each

My siblings and our partners do a KK $50pp as there are 4 of us plus partners so christmas was getting to expensive and everyone is happy for this. We asked mum to pull the names out the hat but she is hopeless at keeping secrets and we normally work out who has who :lol:. I have a roughly $50 limit per parent for my parents.

My grandparnts and Aunts and uncles do a KK for the kids under 14 years old so my younger cousins and my kids are in this each family gets 1 child with a $50 limit per gift. I was pushed into it a bit and I have let mum know I think its silly that my kids are getting gifts from great aunts and uncles when they have 5 uncles and 3 aunts who buy for them as it is, I have put my foot down and this is the last year we are doing it! I dont mind spending money on a gift but my kids are spoiled as it is and what happens when my cousins all start having kids it will be crazy!

I spend roughly $20 on a gift for my grandparents in Australia as we see them at christmas, and my grnadparents in NZ get a card with photos in it. Im very lucky to still have all of my grandparents around and to have had them meet my girls

I also buy a roughly $30 gift to go under the Kmart wishing tree each year, sometimes I spend more if I find a great gift :)

friends I only get my BF something small around the $20 mark and have been buying something for another close friends daughter as she always gets my DD's something but might have to mention about cutting back next year as our group of friends are having kids now and I can see the $$ adding up

I have an netbank internet account that I put $20 a week into for pressies and that normally covers it with a bit left over for christmas treats and drinks. Our family is way to big not to plan ahead for present buying and if I didnt have a budget we would be broke for the year as I love shopping for presents :). I also like going to the mid year sales and putting stuff aside

I don't budget for the girls but should because I usually go a bit nuts. Start with a definitive list and then find one more "perfect thing" for one girl, so have to find another for the other! Nuts. DH and I vary what we spend on each other. We usually get each other books, dvds etc and then often a big thing that is for the two of us for the house. I'd really LOVE a new bbq this year (Santa, if you're reading . . .)

DH's family is enormous so we spend $15 per child. For adults we do a kris kringle for $120 each. My folks I normally spend $150 odd each, sometimes more if I find something for them I really like . Sounds like a lot, but my parents help us out enormously with the girls throughout the year so its a nice way to thank them.

We don't really budget but we tend to buy 1 big thing for the girls to share (swings last year - trampoline this year) and then maybe 2-3 smaller gifts each for x-mas morning to unwrap.
This year we have to get ther tramp before x-mas so we are saying thats a mummy & daddy present and we have bought a few more gifts to unwrap than normal (pj's each, $10 barbie for DD1, a dress & shorts for DD2, some swimming gear like floaties and pool toys).
For nieces and nephews it's normally about $50 each and then my 4 younger brothers are about $50 each, BB KK and a kids KK for our out north group around $10 per child.

We don't really have a budget. Well, I kinda do, but always seem to go over. For DS, we always do the Christmas toy sales, and I set a limit of $100, which I was under by $20 this year (Go me!)
For my ILs, I have $50 each and I make something for them as well and my dad and grandmother are always happy that we come to their place for Boxing Day. My dad is content on a gift voucher of some kind (Be it Sanity, JB Hifi, Myer, Target etc) and my grandmother usually insists on nothing because she doesn't need anything and wants us to save our money. This year though, I've order a specially made jigsaw thats made from a photo of DS and my dad that I love to bits.

i buy for my bestie and her hubby and my little godson, i spent about $30 each on them i think.
and i buy for a few friends kids, no real budget just depends how much money i have on me at the time

No budget, I have got things throughout the year. I am replacing all there kitchen play plastic stuff with wood and have got toys from Disney online. Realised today though that dd1 has only got one main gift compared to ds and dd2, so trying to find her something but she wants a Dora doll who is exxy so will see how we go. It's the first time that she asking for things which is exciting. Dd2 is just happy to be surprised by Santa which is cute.

but yeah no real set budget I just allow that much for them

Lol for DD, we've spent about $200, and $200 in toys is quite a lot we've found :redface: for each other DH & I aren't making a limit as such, but within reason, around the limit of no more than $500 in total.

For family, we're trying to stick to around $30pp because we (well I) have a fairly large family
