My Moo has SO many Matchbox type cars, no thanks to his Dad :lol: His collection has outgrown it's little tub he was using to keep them all in.
What do you use for this kind of thing? I want it to have no lid so it's easily accessible but look decent as it'll be sitting in his room.
We have DS' in a set of storage drawers but that's not what you want, so was thinking maybe a cute/nice box? Ikea have great ones :)
Ikea are definitely worth a look :). Otherwise you can buy brightly coloured crates these days, I think from Kmart?
We have an overflow of cars here too lol!
You can buy from places like KMART a slotted/compartmentalised storage box with a hinged lid for around $20 - I think they are Hot Wheels brand and are blue. They are built specifically for matchbox/hot wheels cars.
Just went and counted - they fit 48 cars and are called a Hot Wheels Carry Case, they look really nice and are a good way to store the cars. You could get a couple and stack them on top of each other.
We use big tubs and sit them on top of their lids.
I used to have shelves and systems but I find that it's easier for the boys to tidy up if they can just throw stuff into tubs so now we only have shelves for books.
We have an old mini-fridge that DS uses as a toy chest. It doesn't seal so is safe but has a lot of space to put toys.
We have them in the drawers of the train table, however I second the plastic tub idea - brightly coloured ones would keep them tidy and look great in a toy area!!
DD1 has a cars 2 car holder that also had a pop out track but it wouldn't hold enough.
I just bought some cute gift boxes (the big ones) for $5 to separate her Barbie & Dora stuff, I can put a lid in and stack them or sit them side by side on their lids... Cute & cheap ;)

The stackable plastic crates/boxes that i have from Ikea have lids but they rest on top as opposed to snapping shut tightly. You can just move the lid off really easily. The also have an insert with a handle for being extra tidy and sorting things. DS1 is quite tidy and like his things fairly well laid out. (Wonder who he gets that from?)
But at least having a lid means they are all stackable and they are clear so the kids know what's in each one (blocks, playdough, trains, paper, junk!).
DS has his in nice wooden baskets - 3 of them in fact. He has sooooo many thanks to his daddy "Oh that's a cool one! We better get it" (big kid) He also has a Hotwheels tin that fits about 30 cars in it in little compartments, and he seems to get the ones out that are flavour of the moment and carts them around in that.
Ours are all in one of those toy sulo bins.
We just have them in a big old bucket. Easy to access them and easy to put them away. I am, however, embarrassed to say that his collection is starting to outgrow it.
Don't have any toy cars yet but I have seen people use those things that use for shoes to hang in wardrobe you know clear plastic front and then a number of pockets - and then hang on the wall, at suitable height for easy access (Might be more suitable for older when want to display the cars though)
We have a bright orange box it does have a lid but it clips on and off easily so the kids can do it. Ds is getting a Disney car set which also came with a carrier for them.
we use those ikea tub drawer things. we bought the white 3-stack drawer holder that came with it. works really great (we dont put the lids on...they are packed in the cupboard).
We have ours in a huge 80lt tub that DS2 loves to rummage through. He has close to 500 cars so it really is the main attraction in this house for any little ones that visit.

Ours go in a large tub! We have at least 20+ that are 30 years old and were DH's when he was a kid plus the kids new ones!

I got a beautiful soft sided basket for the boys if luke decided to sit in the basket he doesn't get hurt or if he pulls it over no sharp edges etc...anmd it looked so nifty I now own 4 for other toys as well :)
