After a talk with a couple of friends about trying to get washing dry with all this rain they both told me that if it rains on their clothes on the line they re wash them. I was really surprised and their answers as to why were simply because your meant to.
I have never and wont, I see it as a big waste of time and water.
Do you wash your clothes again if they get rained on and why
I will only wash some clothes/towels/etc that have been rained on. When I bring them down off the line I look to see if they have brown dust marks, as we get a few dust clouds, and when it rains, well, yes, it's not dust anymore! Other than that, I really don't see the point of rewashing after rain!
Gosh no! Alot of people reckon they prefer their clothes after they've been rained on. Towels especially!
Me... my washing machine is broke :( I'm about to go hang some blankets & sheets that need freshening up from being stored for so long, out in the rain! :lol:
No way. I always worry that there is detergent left in the clothes after washing so if they get rained on I figure it's an extra rinse.
I would only rewash if they smelled funny or had dust on them.
Same here, only if they had dust on them and they looked dirty again.....then again you can always wait for the next shower of rain and hope that will help.....lol
i think my clothes are about to be rained on very soon, but they hardly will be dry anyway.
Yeah that, I am in the country and wonder if we would have less pollution then in the city :dunno::
I only rewash if they look dirty or if they have been rained on for awhile and smell funny.
Otherwise I don't see the point?! Waste in water and time..

no chance! if there was something that smelt off i would re-wash but otherwise, nope they just stay out there till they're dry!!

Nope. Bi hate washing, hanging etc at the best of times, so why double my time!
Nope! Actually don't mind it if they get rained on (unless it's days and days of rain and there's something I want to wear).
I re-wash, but I don't have an outdoor clothes line at the moment, so moot point in this household for the time being.
Uhhh with the inner city Melbourne rain.....yes! It's so polluted and filthy. If I lived further out or rural, I wouldn't though.
I'd wash with rain water if I could, so personally I love it when my clothes get rained on. But, we live rural so we don't have to worry about city air.
Im the same as almost everyone else, only if they smell funny and have gone stiff from being on the line for way too long!
At the moment, I think I would have better chances of getting everything clean if I go out and put all the dirty stuff on the line... Would save water and washing powder too! (not to mention time too!)
Like others, only if they have been on the line for too long. Chances are though, I would just be putting them in the machine for another spin due to being sopping wet.
I'll often throw them in to spin again, but i can say that i have never re-washed rained on clothes.

ETA: i thought this thread was going to be asking if we ran outside to rescue washing from the line when the rain started or if we shrugged our shoulders and called it another rinse cycle!! - ummm, guilty
Yeah, it's called the extended rinse cycle at our house!
Rain is a natural fabric softener!! ;) I live in the UK. If I rewashed everytime my hanging clothes got rained on, I woul.d never ever get a load of washing finished!
We wash with rain water anyways (generally unless our tank runs out) so i don't care.
Not an issue in this house, my line is under cover!
Nope, they stay there until they're dry or I finally remember to bring them in, which can up to a week...
I have never heard of people rewashing after the rain, I guess I'm really surprised people do it. Even when I lived in Glasgow, which is a much smoggier city than Melbourne, I would never have considered it because of the waste of water. And that was a country in which drought was never going to be an issue!
I often find splashed dirt on my washing if it gets rained on, on long items like towels and sheets. They get filthy and need rewashing.
I haven't left anything in the rain in a very long time. I've noticed my neighbours leave their tshirts on the line in the rain for days.

i used to. just cause thats what my mum did. but after doing it a few times dh convinced me its a totally ridiculous thing to do. especially when we used to be on tank water. they are wet with the exact same water that im about to re wash them in the machine with, so whats the point!!!

Yeah, sometimes there will be brown streaks down my linen or whatever of it's been raining heavily. If I can't see or feel dirt I won't rewash, but if there are dirt streaks I'll chuck it all back on a quick wash.
Nope. I too love the towels after they have been rained on. So extra soft and fluffy LOL
Nope me either. Unless there has been a dust storm with the wet (which is as rare as hens teeth anyway). I figure the rainwater has to be kinder to the washing than the calcium and lime laden bore water we have :dunno:

So maybe they do it because their mums did, it is the only reason I can think of. Thanks for all the answers, glad I am a part of the general population that like the rain water on my clothes.
That makes a bit of sense. neither friend lives anywhere near the city though so that could not be their reason.:
I know, the rain just has not stopped hey, I took my jeans off outside after mowing the lawn on Monday and left them hanging over a chair. I think they are all nice and clean now, no need to wash them:) I am just glad I had nothing on the line yesterday after the hammering we got here they would be half way to the catchment by now.:
I only run and get important stuff off the line and then it still depends on how heavy the rain is.:

I find they smell and don't feel nice... They don't seem fresh anymore. Maybe I just make more work for myself but that's just me.

I was about to say exactly the same. It depends on where you live and the quality of the air and rain in your area. Some rain is more dangerous than the remnants of chemicals left on your clothes after a wash.:
