Mascara recommendations

I'm currently recovering from a quite nasty bout of viral conjunctivitis and I've had to throw out all my mascara (broke my heart to throw out over $300 worth of mascara).

What I’m looking for is suggestions of good, but cheap mascara to use until I get the all clear from the ophthalmologist at the end of May.

Other than the swelling of the eye, I’m all clear and I’ve got 2 more weeks on my eye drops (now using them once a day).

I’m not allowed to use contacts until the all clear either.

Preferably a waterproof & smudge-proof one. I’d prefer a black one & won’t be too stressed not having my usual colours (I had indigo, glitter, green, bright blue, black and purple)

I won’t go back to my normal mascara until after I’ve gotten the all clear.

So hit me up with suggestions. Thank you in advance :)

Have you heard of Blinc Mascara? It would stay put in a hurricane so nearly every ski bunny I know who is serious about her make-up and her sport uses it. It's also low irritant etc.

$300 of mascara?? Holy cow! Hopefully you didn't waste to much and it was coming up to its replacement time anyway (isn't mascara like 3-6 months? Dunno.) Basically just go into any Priceline and check it out. I've liked , Covergirl and Revlon in the past for cheap, drugstore brand mascara.

Avon mascaras are actually pretty good, and there's a make-up sale on this campaign. Otherwise I'd go Revlon or Maybelline :)

6 tubes of mascara, $40-$60 a tube. Some of them were relatively new, I'd gotten a new blue/black in December.

WOW $300 of mascara... i've had the same dodgy mascara for years now (cos clearly i never wear it), i'd hate to be replacing that every 3-6mths :p

Wish I'd heard of that when I went on my first date with my now DH - scuba diving. A more unattractive sport there is not, especially in Melbourne in September... brrrr... :rofl:

I have a revlon waterproof one, in a bright yellow tube - I have to use waterproof mascara wipes to get it off.

I am curious, what sort of mascara do you get for $300?

i love my Chanel...but is a bit on the exxy side...

in the past i was happy with maybelline.

Ausgirl, I have a Chanel, Lancôme and YSL mascara. They're a little exxy. The YSL needs to be chucked as it's old as, but it looks so pretty in my makeup box. Lancôme is on the way out too.

Avon and Almay are good budget mascaras for sensitive eyes. I also use Covergirl Lashblast Waterproof on most clients without any issues.

Clinique mascaras are also excellent at that mid-point range.

As a makeup artist can I gently urge everyone to replace every three months :)

I have the Covergirl "best mascara in the world" stuff, in the pink tube with green lid, and it is AWFUL! In my opinion. Because it is very... thin? And a tiny brush. I use it now because my Avon one has pretty much run out.

I loved my Mabellyne (sp!), Wondercurl, but they don't make it any more. Anyone know what is most like it?

I also think the Avon Supershock is pretty wonderful. Available in black, or dark brown (ps, I know Avon have other colours too). It has a nice big brush, and is really thick. It doesn't irritate me after a long day.

Glad your eyes are on the mend, I'd be heartbroken if I had to throw $300 of anything out! :hug:

I love Maybelline and Loreal, they both have a huge variety - the Loreal volume lash (gold container) is great but nearly $30 so probably not classed as cheap! Maybelline full and soft is a nice daytime one, and I just bought a volume Rimmel one the other day I am loving. GOod luck and poo to conjunctivitis, I had to do that a few months ago, really sucks. I would also be careful of liners and eyeshadows too. Maybe get some disposable brushes if you dot use them already.

Another Benefit Bad Girl here. $300 isn't that much when you buy good stuff and in varying shades. I used to have all sorts of awesome colours Pre kids. Pretty boring these days. :)

Tanstar - When I have been using it I've been using fingers & no liner :( I'm actually glad my liner was almost dead so didn't feel so bad throwing it out. I'd not used my Chanel one (which was a colour block & you needed to use a wet brush to apply) for a couple of months before the infection, so it is safe. My poor specialist got grilled about what make-up I could and couldn't keep, poor man :rofl:

All my mascara was Chanel :) Heartbroken to have to throw the glitter one out, it was a limited release :( but my favourite Chanel consultant is trying to track one down for me, she thinks she knows where one is ........ I so owe her lunch if she comes through with it for me!

I use maybelene it's the only one that doesn't make my eyes itch

I've used that & liked it. My favourite ever is the one I'm using now - Maybelline XXL pro. It's dual tipped, one end is a white base coat and then there is the top black coat. Mostly I think it has an awesome brush and plumps my lashes without making them clumpy or spiky. Love it.

Rouge got me onto Benefit tinted moisturiser, while I was at the counter I tried their mascara and it's beautiful. I love it! It's pricey, worth every penny IMO :)

Loreal Beauty Tubes is a tubing mascara - waterproof but washes off easily without much tugging etc because of the way the mascara 'tubes' around each eyelash.
