Scan Gender Accuracy
So we decided to find out the gender at our 18-20 week scan and it is a lovely little girl!
Now I was initially disappointed (which i feel terrible about) but now i am looking forward to meeting the little miss and know i will just love her immensley!
My question is though has anyone had a wrong scan? Which way was it (ie. told a boy but it was a girl or visa versa)? Or was it spot on?
I just keep having these thoughts about what if its a boy?? We havent even thought again about boy names and i keep getting given girl stuff....just paranoid lol!

I believe it's pretty accurate especially with an experienced sonographer. There are heaps of stories around about it being wrong though. Mine were both right.
BTW, the vote link in your sig doesn't work :)

Thanks! i think its fixed now :)

My scans have all been accurate too, but the only "got it wrong" scenarios I have heard of are when its said to be a girl during pregnancy but is actually a boy. Never heard of boys becoming girls.
FWIW, I had very, very strong boy feelings for this bundle for me. So did my DH. I was told at 16 weeks, 19 weeks and just today that its a girl but there is still that tiny little niggle saying to me "just you wait you git. You've bought all this girl stuff and its going to be a boy after all". Have to add, I have no disappointment whatsoever that I'm having a girl so its not even a sub-conscious thing of trying to ease me into a girl IYKWIM.

Both of mine were right, DD1 was shy at the 20w so my Ob checked again at 24w and we could both clearly see she was a girl. DD2 was was hard to see and the scanner said 'best guess girl-but not 100%' we didnt have another scan but she was right. I dont know anyone personally who has had it told wrong.

My two girls were both said to be girls.

Scan Gender Accuracy
They were right for my DS. My scan was at 18 weeks.
-
My last 3 were all right. DD1 had her legs in the way & we couldn't tell, but we knew all the others :)
& I've heard that its usually said girl & happens to be a boy, rather than the other way around.
-
When I have found out they have been correct. I believe it is more common for them to mistake boys for girls than the other way around because the testies can be mistaken for labia. Do you have any pics? Did you ave a 12 week scan?
-
Both were right with my DDs. We even had the sonographer tell us correctly what she thought was developing at 12 wks because they were doing an early determination study. Apparently they find things pointing up for a girl and down for a boy most of the time.
I'm blown away that it can be that detailed! I have never personally known anyone for whom the scan was wrong. I would question the skill of the technician or the quality of the equipment if they were wrong after the baby is fully developed and I'd be more worried about what else they might have missed too.

My SIL was told a boy at two scans and out came my little niece, she is dressed in blue most of her hospital pics :) This was only two years ago and also at my 24 week appt the midwife asked if we found out and when we said no, she told us of a very unexpected little boy being born that week at the hospital, so I guess they do get it wrong occasionally
-
Spot on for us. We were so paranoid aswell.
Congrats... Girls are just gorgeous (as a boy would be too)!
Sent from my iPhone... Please excuse the mistakes :)

Our scan at 20 weeks was wrong - we were told girl. Scan at 28 weeks was correct. I've also read it's much more common to be told girl and then have a boy...
There is another thread around asking the same question, and a poll but on my phone so can't look for them.
-
They were correct for all 3 of our girls :)
With DD3 the sonographer was very certain she was a girl at the 20 week scan
Like Jen I think if they can check all the heart valves etc that are so tiny surely they have the skill to get the gender right, I too would worry about what else may have been missed!
-
We were told girl at 18 weeks and then boy at 20 weeks. We had a baby boy on Monday.
At the time I had thread about the inaccuracy of scans and you would be suprised how common it is, everyone seems to know someone - have a read https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...te-173752.html
-
3 girls and they were all predicted to be girls :)
-
I had one told wrong my DS was meant to be a DD
-
4 from 4 for us!
i refused to believe that DD3 was a girl for a while, and it took another 2 scans for me to finally let the dream of a little boy go
-
Yep we were told at 19 weeks ds was a girl. Apparently that is alot more common than being told boy and it's a girl.
We have been told boy for this bundle, and we could clearly see his bits, so hopefully I'll be 1:1
-
DD1 told girl at 19 weeks. DS told boy at 20 weeks. DD2 told girl at 12 wks 5 days, confirmed at 19 weeks. We were told at the 12 weeks scan that the urethra points down for a girl and up for a boy, so the opposite to a PP.
Congratulations on your daugher, little girls are lovely!

Found out for my last 2 and both were correct. I actually picked No 4 myself...was very clearly a boy

We were told DD was a girl and we had it confirmed 3 times and this bubba is definitely a boy.

Hmmm.... wonder if I should prep some boy stuff, just in case.... I thought FOR SURE this baby was a boy, because I felt sick in the same was as with our one and only DS. I was nauseous and exhausted, but didn't vomit. With the girls, when l felt yucky, I threw up, and then felt better for a while. At the 20 week scan, I was totally shocked to hear the sonographer say it looks like a little girl! Guess we'll know for sure in about 7 weeks or so. :)
-
Did you get any pics During any of your scans Cricket?
-
Only face/head pics, unfortunately, Tanya. Nothing being given away there! :)
-
1st three were right. Will find out in a few weeks if they are right this time, I was told at girl at 19 and 34 week, so you would think they got it right.
-
They were right the first time round with DD for me and they were pretty sure this time too so I will see in 22 weeks!!

Scan Gender Accuracy
We had CVS last week. All good for the initial results.
A real bonus but a stressful route to find out the gender too. We have always thought we are having a girl and it's been 100% confirmed with the chromosomal testing. So fortunately we won't be needing the scan operator to guess for us. Phew!
