SIL buys her kids gifts from 'the Easter Bunny''. A friend I have does something similar. It turns into a mini-Christmas with really expensive gifts (SIL bought her DD an iPod touch last year).
I wasnt born in Aus, so I find this very strange and inappropriate TBH. How common is it?
Easter has always been about the religious meaning for me, with a few Easter Eggs thrown in.
Would love to hear your opinions!
Choc but no gifts from Easter bunny here; along with church and spending at least the afternoon with at least some of the extended family.
I like to focus in the religious meaning as well - Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday services for me (DH doesn't always go to the Maundy Thursday service but goes to the other 2)

Wow, gifts are a bit extreme for Easter I think.
I only ever buy a small gift for children that are too young to have some eggs. Usually it is a little stuffed rabbit or chicken.
:o IMO gifts are totally inappropriate for Easter. I don't celebrate it myself but I grew up in a very traditional home where hot cross buns were for Friday and Easter eggs were for only for Sunday (not every year because Mum didn't understand why a pagan fertility symbol was appropriate for a Christian celebration) so I think that the Easter egg gluttony and hot cross buns in the shops straight after Christmas is kind of inappropriate (not that I'm complaining about the buns - I love to nom them).
Easter eggs/whatever other shape chocolate can be molded into when I was growing up. Sometimes a stuffed toy or two, and usually a mug and/or eggcup that came with a cheap chocolate egg.
Phew! Glad it seems to be the consensus that it's OTT!
The only gift that I know a lot of people do is pajamas. Say grandparents give new winter jammies rather than more chocolate. But that's it.

I've heard that gifts are taking over chocolate. Its rediculus! Mine have never & will never get gifts from the Easter bunny!
We have chocolate eggs for brekky, lunch & dinner :lol: Thats it! If its not all eaten Sunday they are restricted to minimal amounts over the holidays, if I don't eat it all first ;)
we always got a book at Easter and one bunny or egg.ill probably do the same with my children. an ipod is a little ott, but I don't see anything wrong with substituting eggs with a small gift.

We do a book and a small amount of chocolate. Only cause my DS and niece and nephews are all still little.
We do the easter eggs & talk about the meaning of easter. Our kids have not & will not get a present from easter bunny.
Very unecessary in my opinion. Why does everything have to become so over the top spending wise? As children we did hot cross buns warmed in the oven pre microwave days - no eggs until Sunday, usually church and usually watched one of the Jesus movies on Good Friday too - back in the day when sporting teams didn't take priority over Jesus (sorry but I think playing commercial sports on this day is wrong).
I don't like giving my kids too many eggs so they are getting two little eggs and a trinket/toy each just very little and mini eggs to share with a hunt.
Easter eggs here & that's it - altho for ds' first easter my parents bought him a soft toy. This year i got ds a basket so he can hunt for his eggs & dd has been given a gorgeous taggie bunny (made by a talented bb'er).

I am allergic to a preservative that is in most Easter eggs, so we always got normal chocolate (small Cadbury bar) and then we got some kind of gift. Books, pj's etc. some years I'd get a small item of jewelry. I don't agree with going ott either chocolate or gift wise, but I can understand why people are substituting...
Today DD got 20+ mini eggs, a hungry egg and two Easter coloring books. That was just from grandparents and one aunt (my bro and I agreed not to get anything for kids). Once the bunny visits and her godfather she will have about double that. Kids don't need all that crap (I'm upset at the older generation for buying so much when we asked them not to). Honestly, I think it's a waste of money. I'd prefer she got clothes or something... It's way too commercial...

I am getting my girls 1 egg or something and that's it (I still haven't got it, LOL). And not a big one. They already have too much from other people. And especially DD2 at just over 1 yr, she doesn't need any!
The Easter Bunny is bringing a "breakfast set" (Melamine bowl/cup/spoon) which has one egg. Mummy and Daddy are giving him a new dressing gown and slippers - I like the idea of new PJ's for Easter :)
We mainly give eggs but my mum likes to buy the grandkids new winter PJs or a dressing gown as well. I really like that idea and it's a practical gift from a Nanna who just loves to spoil her grandkids.
DS gets Easter eggs. This year (if I can be bothered today) he'll get a pair of winter pjs too but certainly nothing to that extent!
My boy will get a bunny, book, Pjs and whatever else I feel like buying him. It makes me happy and it make him happy. Each to their own.
My kids get a pair of winter PJs each and an egg hunt with small eggs. The PJ's are a tradition my parents did with me and my siblings and we always loved it so it was a no brainer to continue it with my kids!
Well my two have ended up with a little bag each to use for the easter egg hunt and it has 3 of those kind of medium sized hollow eggs in it. And DD1 got an activity book too. And them we have just a bag of little eggs to hide around the place.
This bunny is now going to hop off to bed.
Easter eggs and a new toothbrush here! I can't give him the chocolate without the reminder to protect his teeth :) The twins get nothing.. Mean Easter bunny
I do know a fair few people who give winter pj's as well.
my mum doesn't like going overboard with chocolate so we often got the eggs transferred into a present usually something useful like ear muffs or a cheap cordless drill
I always do a new pair of slippers and some winter Pj's ;-D then some chocolates. I don't think it's over the time. It's the things that I need at this time of the year anyway and the kids always thing it's special that they get it for easter ;-D
My DS got nothing other than the egg DH boss got him. He is still so little he doesn't get it and I won't see nephews till next week so will get them tomorrow for 1/3 of the price.
My kids got an Easter Beanie Kid and 1 egg each from us. But by gosh you should see what they got from the rest of the family. Kilos of chocolate.
No Easter Bunny here. I never had it growing up, as Easter was focused on Jesus.
We're focusing on teaching our kids the 'rebirth' message of Easter. So, we bought DD a big fluffy chicken.
My parents got her a big fluffy fish. :)
DD can't eat chocolate, a) because she's 1 and doesn't need to and b) because of her medical condition. It's too risky.
