For those who had two pregnancies in under a year...

So, I gave birth 10 months ago and I'm pregnant again :o :lol: For anyone else who had two pregnancies within 12 months of each other, how did you find your body reacted to your 2nd pregnancy? Did you show a lot earlier? Labour and birth well? Was it a difficult pregnancy or relatively normal, seeing as your body kind of remembered being pregnant not so long ago :p

I'm 5 weeks tomorrow and I swear I need to start measuring my belly. I haven't got a flat stomach for the start of this pregnancy (unlike DD) so I'm not sure whether it will take time for the flab to fill in, or whether my uterus will just push everything outwards? (I know how dumb that sounds :rolleyes: ) I'm interested to know how other peoples bodies reacted to having two pregnancies so close together.

I'd lost 20kg after DD's birth in 2010, and was preg again when she was 6-7months, so I think I started to show weight gain early, but as for a belly not much (it was all love handles baby!!)
The pregnancy presented me with some complications in regards to my body, that being cervical incompetence. I was told my ligaments were just stretched and sore and thats why I felt like the baby was going to fall out......turns out I had an incompetent cervix, was in 'labour' and likely to miscarry or have a preterm birth. I had neither, we got lucky a few times.

My cravings were different too....I ate EVERYTHING meat when pregnant with DS.......DP caught me nawing on the xmas ham, like a wild dog! :/
I felt him kick at 17-18 weeks, same as DD.

Hiya. I fell pregnant this time when dd was 9 months. I found that I showed really early. I was having trouble hiding it a 8 weeks! For me everything has happened earlier, I felt him move earlier, All the aches and pains started earlier. It's not been a difficult pregnancy although I have been a lot sicker. But I feel like my body knows what it's doing, I'ma lot more relaxed. Can't give you info about a second birth yet though. ;-)

I got pg with DS when DD was 8 mths old! I definitely found I popped out right away!! I was wearing mat pants at around 8 weeks from memory because jeans wouldn't do up!! I carried much lower too as I think my muscle separation didn't have time to heal properly.

The pregnancies for both were pretty similar with ms going to around 16 weeks or so and I had big babies so by the end of my 2nd pregnancy I was HUGE! I also found that where with DD I counted each day and minute, with DS I would have weeks where I would go - mmm am I 30 or 31 weeks pregnant? Definitely goes fast!!!

I was heading for a VBAC and waited until 14 days past my due date to try and get him out and at 12 days over I was 3 cms dilated and looking like things were going to happen but they didn't - whereas with DD at 9 days over my cervix was closed ( should never have been induced but that's a whole other story). can't comment on labour for DS unfortunately!!! HtH!

I fell pregnant when DD was around 11 months. I showed very quickly. i was asked at 4 weeks if i was pregnant :o

Though this baby i just looked fat for a long time. Its only now at 22 weeks i have an obvious bump, or so ive had a few people ask if im pregnant. Though not techinically under 12 months like you're asking :p

I fell pg 7mths after DD was born. Yep, I had a belly from about 6ish wks! DS1 pg was by far my easiest until about 28-ish wks, when my back and pelvis started playing up. UNntil then, everything was roses. His birth was a pretty good one too!

ETA, I had polyhydramniosis with DS1'S pg, so that would have made the difference in my size. His birth was also all natural, where DD's birth was induced which made all the difference too!

Definitely showed quicker the second time round although that may have been because I still hadn't lost all the baby weight. In fact 6 years down the track I still look pregnant after I eat a large meal so I'm kind of resigned to never having a flat tummy again.

Second pregnancy I noticed the fatigue more but that could have been because I was looking after a baby so I couldn't just nana nap whenever I felt like it.

It was kind of depressing wearing breastfeeding bras for 3 years. I had hot milk but they're still BF bras.

I was heaps more insane during the second pregnancy :o Hormones + (sleep - 1000) = Crazy Onyx!!

I got pregnant when my DS was 9 mths. I don't remember showing any earlier than with my 1st pregnancy, I had lost 10kg before getting pregnant and I walked 5km every day for the duration of my pregnancy so I didn't really gain much. I also felt more tired the 2nd time around, I think because I had a toddler who I was running around after and I couldn't just sit down and rest like I could during my 1st pregnancy. DS was very full on. :rolleyes:

I didn't get any more stretch marks with the 2nd pregnancy either, which surprised me. TBH, my body coped pretty well. My mind however, was a different story lol

I didn't get more stretch marks the second time around but the existing stretch marks from the first time got worse.

I found out I was preg when DS1 was 9 months old, my body copped fine I don't think I showed any earlier but I hadn't lost baby weight anyway (don't look at me now as lots to loose). I didn't get MS in either pregnancy, and I was tired allready from sleep deprivation from still getting up overnight to feed.

All in all I loved both pregnancys and both were pretty plain sailing and easy. I did have Pelvic instability badly with DS1, and started getting pain at 8 weeks with DS2 and was worried about it but in the end pelvic instability actully was probably better with DS2 than it was with DS1.

I found I was definitely showing a lot earlier - I was in mat clothe by 8-9 weeks! I had no idea how I was going to last the 12wks without telling anyone because my body was giving it away on me LOL! Overall the pg was very easy - no real morning sickness to speak of, tiredness didn't really seem to be an issue till the 3rd trimester and the birth was amazing! My easiest and best birth was my second one. Even with my third pg I was pg again within a year of my second babe being born and that pg was very easy too until the last few weeks when I had problems with my joints and I did end up with carpal tunnel.

Amelia was conceived a little over four months after Ianto was born. I felt like I was showing a bit earlier, but it wasn't until I was looking back at photos that I realised just how much bigger/rounder I was with Amelia than with Ianto. Even discounting the fact I got much further along with her, the photos from similar gestations look different.

That's the only difference I can really think of in physical terms, and obviously the emotional differences wouldn't apply to you :)

Oh, I felt her waaaaay earlier than I did him, too. That was lovely :) They were so different when it comes to moving around - he was a slow, infrequent kicker, and she was a fast kick-mum-all-the-time type. So be prepared for Pine Nut to feel different ;)

I was pregnant again 6 months after DS1. I hadnt lost any weighr, in fact I'd gained weight and still looked pregnant anyway. I dont know if I showed earlier or just looked fatter. I felt DS2 so much earlier - at 11 weeks with definite kicks by 17 weeks. That may be because of the placenta though. It was anterior with DS1, posterior with DS2.

Early symptoms were similar but cravings were a bit different. The SPD came back quickly but wasn't as bad though maybe it might have got worse if I'd stayed pregnant longer.

I was pregnant with DD2 a smidge under 3 months after DD1 was born. I definitely showed VERY early (had only put on 5kgs with DD1 so it wasn't left overs!). I had morning sickness for 9 months so that was fun while dealing with a small baby. The biggest issue I had was that I had enormous pelvis pain and muscle issues because my body hadn't had enough time to recover after DD1.

I didn't have any issues as such throughout the pregnancy, although was extremely tired being pregnant and dealing with a little bub. TBH though her pregnancy was a walk in the park compared to this one so I'm not sure the closeness of 1 and 2 was the cause of any of those problems or if its just the way I am during pregnancy ITMS.

Her birth was easy peasy. Born 41+2 with an extremely quick birth. I was up within minutes and left hospital about 7 hours after she was born.

Identical pregnancies... Didn't show earlier, labour was very similar.... *shrugs*

yeah i was preg when ds was 10 months old. I found i showed earlier and seemd to carry more weight with this pregnancy.
while i wasn't as exhausted as with DS, i felt it taxed my body soooo much more. it was very hard on me physically. Not sure how to put it, but i just felt like i had no reserves in the tank. so make sure you eat right and get as much sleep as you can love!!

but you know, it's so worth it. Having two babies is really just so special. might not seem like it right now, but you are blessed to be able to have two bubs who will have such a special bond and be so close in age!

as for the birth; 2nd one was even better than the first. It was a bit scary cos you know what's coming and it's still fresh in your mind... but for me, I found it was better cos I understood how to push with my bottom (with DS i really didn't get it for awhile!). My labour with DD was much shorter and she was 3lb heavier than ds. I didn't tear for either and have uncomplicated labours so it was the 'ideal' for me. (birth centre, supportive, no drugs, all our wants met, fantastic midwives who even knew our dog's name, home with 4 hrs of birthing dd, bf established exceedingly easy).

Seriously, the actual pregnancy was far worse than once she arrived. the heaviness and fatigue and sickness just sucks. But once bub arrived, things were SO much easier! And i still had plenty of time for DS (newborns sleep lots remember and he was so little he barely noticed... she would often be asleep when he was awake and she was up when he was asleep!!!)

DD was 10 months old when I fell pg to DS1 and I didn't show any earlier with him, though I felt him earlier. I had lost most of my pg weight by then and carried fairly small with her so found that my tummy was still fairly tight when I was carrying him.

My pg with him was quite different too - with her, I was flush and beautiful and glowing, with him, I was constantly sick, lost weight, hair was lank and skin was horrid.

Her labour was 28 hours and slow to build up, and I was eventually induced. With him, I laboured without anything but some gas in the last few hours, but otherwise it was easier for me despite it lasting 14 hours, and I was much calmer for it.

I fell pregnant with DD1 when DS was 11 months old. My pregnancies were very similar. I showed a bit earlier with DD1. I'll pop the labour and delivery times of each birth below :)

I fell pregnant with DD2 when DD1 was 5 months old. I expected to show a lot earlier considering it was my third baby and because there had not been much time between pregnancies, but DD2 was shy and didn't show much for quite some time. Once again the pregnancy was pretty similar to the others, although I found it was my hardest pregnancy as I also got sick a few times, plus also chasing after a toddler and baby already was quite exhausting.

DS:
Labour 9ish hours
Pushing 1.5 hours

DD1:
Labour 3 hours
Pushing 7 minutes

DD2:
Labour 1 hour 45 mins
Pushing 5 minutes (three pushes, lol!)

For me each birth got quicker and easier. My Ob didn't even make it to either of my girls' births, and midwife didn't even have to touch me or the baby for DD2's birth as I delivered her 100% myself :)

Ooh. I don't have any advice as it's been almost 2 years between my pregnancies, but just wanted to say congrats and wish you luck! :)

DS was 8months when I fell pregnant with DD. I didn't show until 19weeks (and that was only a slight bump) with both pregnancies. No real morning sickness with DS and I ate really healthy for most of it (which is what I craved - fruit and salad), whereas with DD I was sick the whole time, on strong medication and couldn't eat. Neither pregnancy seen me gain much weight - 8kgs with DS, 5kgs with DD; and back to pre-pregnancy weight within 3weeks. I'm actually 5kgs lighter now than when I fell pregnant with DD, but I was tandem feeding until very recently. Both I felt movement at 12weeks, even with an anterior placenta second time round.
DS's pregnancy was boring, apart from mild SPD. Spontaneous labour at 39+2 but required forceps after failed vacuum and I had an epidural.
DD's pregnancy was relatively boring, except I had irritable uterus for the last 8 or so weeks. Induced at 38+2 (AROM) with a drug free birth.

DD was 4 months old when I became pregnant with DS. :) I have started showing earlier with each baby - doesn't seem to matter how much time is between them. DS's pregnancy was GREAT. Honestly. I felt really good through the whole thing. I exercised as often as I could (prenatal DVD - Erin O'Brien, if you're curious.) Labour went really well, only 2 hr of active labour, and it was easy - I could hardly believe it when they told me I was at 10cm! But then, because of the relaxed uterus/abdominal muscles, it turned out that DS was in a lousy position and pushing him out took a bit of work.

DS1 was 11 months when I fell pg with DS2. I was showing by 2 -3 weeks - no kidding. I would have sworn I wasn't pg but everyone kept congratulating me on my pg. Then DH said I really should do a test - and it was positive. Then I thought I must be quite a few weeks along as I was already showing but the dating scan said otherwise. I really must have been showing before I was even 4 weeks pg!!

The good news for you is that I had a fantastic birth second time around. My body knew what to do and I went with it.

DD was 4 & a bit months when I fell and so far this pregnancy has been so much easier than the first! I had next to no morning sickness this time and haven't gained near as much weight. I am showing a lot quicker this time though.

I've done it twice and my body copes pretty well. I had some nausea with both pregnancies but far less weight gain than with my first.

I fell pregnant when my son was 3 months and found I had a very sore back / pelvis area from about 20 weeks but a chiro fixed that! That was due to lugging a heavy baby around.

The birth for #2 was 1.5 hours from start to finish compared to a slow 14 hours with #1.

My boys are a mere 14 months apart so I almost gave birth a year apart lol but besides showing earlier I think they were pretty similar, I also believe I felt him move earlier because I knew what I was feeling. All the aches and pains were the same, I was the exact same weight at the start of both pregnancies and now 4 months after DS2 I'm 10kg lighter so I recovered quicker and running around after a toddler on top of all the demands of a newborn helped with that, both labours were exactly the same, DS was 2 hours with a 3rd degree tear and DS2 was 2.5 hours with 3rd degree tear. Both weighed and measured exactly the same, only DS was 2 weeks late and DS2 was 9 days early so that was a nice difference. As hard as it was at the beginning, it is getting easier and I love love love that they are so close. And it makes me love and appreciate DS more than I thought I ever could

DD was 6.5 months old when this bub was conceived, a few days shy of 7 months when I found out I was pregnant. I started showing earlier - was even asked how far along I was at 7wks once lol
Other than some issues unrelated to having them so close together I've been more able to do things this pregnancy than in either of my other 2 sticky pregnancies, bub is measuring right on dates whereas the other 2 were measuring 3-4wks ahead from about 20wks, I have more energy too.
I did lose 16kg while pregnant with DD and another 6kg when I gave birth to her, plus 10kg between pregnancies, and my bump is noticeably smaller than it was at the same gestation with the other 2, but I have put on somewhere between 6-8kg this pregnancy as well.
Only other thing I've noticed is my BHs and irritable uterus are worse now than they were in my previous pregnancies.
