I'm wanting to get one, but I'm curious as to what actually gets waxed, I *think* I remember reading a thread AAAGGEESS ago about this, but I can't find it.
Where do they wax? Do they wax part of your legs? Do they really wax your crack?

Basically the entire groin area and yes, your crack too if you want it done ;) They'll generally ask if you want your 'behind' done so you don't have to do it if you don't want or don't feel comfortable. I personally feel better having the whole lot done though.
Your legs aren't done but the bikini line definitely is.

I looked online and everywhere said "it varies so much, bla bla bla" and I didn't think it'd vary that much! Lol

I never thought I'd get one but had my first done about 6 years ago and was pleasantly surprised how good it felt (not during it, lol!). I don't get it done as often these days but only because now kids are on the scene, I don't have as much free time to spend at the beautician and would prefer to get a massage instead! :rofl:
Some places differentiate between X, XX, Xxx etc. i dont really know what that means. I think I'm a XXXX - all off except a landing strip (because that part hurts like a biatch). Some provide paper g-strings. I dont bother. The legs in the air as they wax the behind has to be one of the most undignified poses I've done, but I figure it's a bit like giving birth - pick your dignity up as you're leaving :) well, apart from picking out tiny bits of left over wax from your crack....
If you try it, go to a place that does it all the time. The last thing you want is someone inexperienced down there.
Which is a philosophy that could be applied in so many other applications ;)

The first time is the worst but it gets much easier from then on. I went to B.razillian B.utterfly when I was having them done & they were fantastic. So professional & fast, I think they cost a little more but I was petrified so I would have paid anything :rofl:
Can't wait to hear about it! Also, if you can get a tea tree moisturiser they are fantastic for soothing your bits afterwards!
There are a variety of ways they do it, if you go for the xxx version they do every little bit of hair from the top of your hooha to the top of your crack, my wonderful lady will even pluck out the hairs that are missed by the waxing.
I've only ever had the xxx versions so can't tell you about the others.
PMSL about the 'position' for the crack wax L&B!! I have only ever rolled onto my side and assisted the beautician by holding up my saggy ass cheek so she can get in there easier! :rofl:

Try it whilst heavily pregnant with severe SPD - Rolling on to all fours then spreading. Talk about awkward

Hope - they also usually provide a packaged wipe cloth. It's considered a kindness to use it before the wax
Brazillian waxes are the best... once you get that first one out of the way and get it done regularly, they really are easy to get through... Even when pregnant they don't hurt as much... the hubs loves it and I feel cleaner down there..
And yeah, I agree.. it's like giving birth, your dignity goes out the window.. once you find someone you're comfortable with it's great!
But, my advice is to wash with an antibacteria soap for the first week, and do light exfoliation after around the 2nd or 3rd day after you get it done and the area has had a chance to heal a little... ingrowns are the worse down there..

It's been awhile since I've had it done and it makes me sad! Seeing a good beautician is a MUST! The girl I saw in Sydney was amazing, but then the one I saw in Adelaide was terrible. Very painful and missed a few spots. Have had somewhere recommended though so I might try it out. Want to start getting my legs done too so I don't have to worry about shaving when this baby bump is too big to do anything!
On the subject of it being undignified, not sure if there is anything worse than being in a class (I studied beauty therapy and we had to wax each other to practice) and the teacher using you to demonstrate to the other 8 girls how it's done :lol:

Some parts are a bit ouchy- the more times you get it done, the less it hurts.
YES, it's freakin' painful! I tried to get it done once, and actually ended up leaving before she'd finished. I just couldn't take it anymore!
It's relative. I think getting shins waxed hurts more. I dont get the mons done as that really hurts, but if they know what they're doing, just breathe through it and you'll be fine.

Yeah, there are only 3 strips that are take-your-breath-away painful for me... Back of your knees, shins, and especially your upper lip all hurt waaaay more! lol
It's also important to make sure you're trimmed before getting waxed. If you're not, it means much more pain.
Really? I've booked twice (but not been able to attend either appointment) and they said not to do a thing, don't shave or trim anything. This was two different places, maybe it depends on the waxer?:

I imagine it depends on length of hair. I've had IPL so that part never gets too long. However, last wax, my legs looked like something out of a mammoth exhibition and I knew it was going to hurt like a biatch. I was thankful when we got that over and moved onto the Brazilian, just for relief.

I have considered it as i just have no time to groom myself 'down there'. I was wanting to get one before giving birth as i did such a shocking job last time! But i think i will just try my best again.
I think it's one of those things. Once you start, you can't go back. Let's just say there are bonuses :)
Every place is different re trimming I think. Some places will do the trimming (if needed) before they wax, but the one I saw last time didn't and then told me next time to make sure I trimmed as it would hurt me less and made the waxing itself easier. Still unsure why she didn't just do it.
LMS - They are a little ouchy at first, but totally worth it.

Well I FINALLY got mine done today!! :D
I went in before when I got my pamper package, but the hair was too short, then I got AF and kept putting it off because I didn't have the guts again to go lol. It was a different place, and i didn't like the girl that was going to do it, so I'm actually kinda glad I didn't get it done there.
Where I went did an excellent job and was so professional and the girl was so lovely! She took all the embarrassment and apprehension away!
It didn't hurt *as* much as I was expecting, and the worst part was definitely the top, the Bikini line, lips and bum was barely anything! She said for my first wax I did super well! No squealing/screaming or anything like that. Just a quick flinch occasionally lol.
I'm quite red, but it doesn't feel all that raw until I touch/rub the skin abit, but just having normal undies/clothes over it is completely fine, and I have quite sensitive skin.
And I was quite pleased with the positions I had to do weren't too undignified! :lol: for one bit of the bum I had to put my leg in the air, then the other I had to lie on my side in a kinda fetal position and hold my bum cheek :rofl:
I'm actually excited for my skin to return to normal so I can feel even better! :)

Miss_Dee, I went to the beauty place in the Glenmore Park town centre :) they're excellent in everything I've had done there, and all the girls are so lovely!!

I have had it done a few times but always chicken out going back more frequently so years between waxes!

Take a nurofen about half an hour before if you can - takes the edge off it!! But once used to it, it's fine. All in the waxer, and if they use the hard pink wax, all the better.
Oh and use an after care lotion - priceline sells one for about $10 will last ages, it smells like peaches but it will stop in grown hairs!!
I use coconut oil. Stops the redness, helps heal and I rarely get ingrown hairs.
Hmm seems like there are a few good ideas here for ingrown hairs...the coconut oil - where do you get that from LB? And MLR1901 what was the name of the after care lotion?
I get organic coconut oil at health food shops. I use it for moisturiser, cleanser and lots of other things too.
