Does anyone know whether a single mum with 1 kid will get this cash injection I heard about on the radio? The newspapers only mention families with 2 kids... And will it be a lump sum or spread over the financial year?

there is a thread about the education tax rebate becoming a cash "bonus" (i think it's in media rather than c'link threads). Based on Elly's age, no, you won't get any of that payment that was announced in the most recent budget
you may be eligible for the clean energy/carbon tax offset advances that are released over the next six-ish weeks though.
have a look at your online services - it will tell you a couple of days before your next payment what is coming
There is also a supplementary allowance for people on parenting payment and some allowances. I'll post more when I get to work.

Nah I'm pretty sure this is on top of the clean energy future package. There is also new increases to FTB A. I think. There's so much to digest.

Subbing. I know there is never such a thing as Free money - but any money at the moment would make a huge difference to us!
Some extra cash would be pretty handy here too atm. How do I find out what I'm eligible for?
Subbing - hopefully you girls can make me understand all this!
Here's what has come through so far at work. More detail will be available on the Centrelink website once the Budget is passed and the below proposals become law. However it's worth nothing that the SchoolKids Bonus has already passed the Parliament so that's definitely coming.
Increase to FTB A
- families will receive an increase of up to $600 a year in their Family Tax Benefit Part A payments from 1 July 2013
- Families receiving the maximum rate or part of the maximum rate of FTB Part A with two or more children will receive an extra $600 a year, or an extra $300 a year if they have one child.
- Families receiving the base rate of FTB Part A with two or more children will receive an extra $200 a year, or an extra $100 a year if they have one child.
Supplementary Allowance
- People that receive Parenting Payment, Youth Allowance and Newstart Allowance
- The payments of a total of $210 a year for singles or $350 a year for families will be indexed by the Consumer Price Index and will be tax-free.
- It will be paid in twice-yearly instalments in March and September.
SchoolKids Bonus
- Only for people eligible to receive FTB A
- Parents will receive $410 for each child in primary school and $820 for each child in high school as part of the new Schoolkids Bonus.
In the meantime, Medicare tax rebates for IVF, etc have been slashed :(
There is information here about the Clean energy Advance payments and how much you can get Clean Energy Advance Rates - March 2012 - The Hon Jenny Macklin MP going by those figures, the most you can get per child is $87.55
The information I just posted is seperate to anything related to the clean energy future package.
Yeah I know, but I thought it would be helpful to Phynna and anyone else who was interested in it.
So because I recieve ftb a and b we get $87.55 + $69.99?
Sorry, what I meant is that because we get a and b we get both, or is it one or the other?
YOu get both is my understanding of that but until you get notification about it for sure I wouldn't be counting on it kwim?
Thanks Trillian :)
Is the change to the education tax rebate into a cash payment per school child to replace the amount I would claim on the 2011-2012 tax return, or will it be after July 1 for the 2012-2013 tax return?
Why can't all families get it :( We only just miss out but would also benefit from it too :(
I know but it's just so frustrating that we are struggling exactly the same as everyone else but can never get any of these :(
what is the cut off? how do you know if you get it or not?
LIviam, I understand your frustration about it, but this was only ever a payment that was designed to help with the costs of sending kids to school. It's not a new payment, just a simplified delivery of a payment that has been around for a few years already. The media have made it sound like this shiney new cash payment for families, when the reality is quite different.
Ginger, the Schoolkids one is just for children already attending school. The other ones are connected to FTB payments.
The SchoolKids Bonus is means tested. You are eligible if you receive FTB A.
so if your child goes to school in 2013 will you get it?
Yeah, you will next year G :)
I agree with you lovely. We are on the borderline of whether we get it or not - all depends on what the Aus $ does, which dictates how much DH earns. Funnily enough, that borderline extra of a $1,000 or so per annum doesn't seem to make life much easier!!
I appreciate that there must be a line drawn somewhere, but given the cost of housing, utilities, food etc - ie the things that you can't just say hey, we'll not "do" that this month - are so high, the cut off income really doesn't seem high enough.
N2L's point about medicare, IVF etc is also so valid. How are "normal" people supposed to manage. Bloody unfair enough if you have to go down that road, without being penalised even further financially than you are already.
And yet a couple buying their first house that is costing them in excess of $1 million are entitled to the first home owner's grant. Definitely not right.
Sorry - bit OT but woke up on my soap box this morning. Will crawl away now . . .
i thought the first home owners was not available on properties over 500k?
Pretty sure there's no cut off in WA - it certainly was available on any property price, but if they've changed it I guess I'll have to go and crawl into my soapbox on that one
Like you could really crawl away at nearly 38 weeks hun !!!!
You're not implying that I'm not full of athleticism and grace are you????? :p
Lot of the changes won't be coming in until 2013.
Sorry Fiona I hasn't been to work since budget night so hadnt read about the supplements.
In answer to the earlier q, if you qualify for ftba and b you will get both clean energy advances. Ftba actually has abOut half a dozen different "levels" of payment depending on child age and parental income. The max amount is about 111 for a child over 13 with low income parents.
For FTB A, it says in point 1 that it's effective from 1 July 2013.

Rather than start a new thread, ill ask here as centerlink ph lines are busy...
I am getting my clean energy payment on friday according to the online site, it doesnt tell me how much per child i qualified for, only that i am getting xx amount of money...
That xx amount is less than the $110 per child, i know it says the payment is up to $110 if you qualify, we recieve max fta and hubby has barely had any work, so this money comes at a great time cause we cant afford rent right now..
But im just wondering why i didnt qualify for the full amount?
if your kids are under 13, the max you get for them is, off the top of my head, about $87 per child. if you also receive part b and youngest is under 5, the part b portion is just under 70

this is available on the c'link website - it's the guide to payments, most recently updated on March 20
CEA payment information starts on page 35
ETA - sorry - wrong page number - the clean energy advance stuff starts on page 35 beside a rent assistance table
