Gender selection using Superior Art in Bangkok

hi everyone,

I was interested to know if anyone has gone down the path of gender selection using PGD.

As most know its currently not available in Australia due to the fear of people "playing god" and only selecting the sex of the child they desire.

Well I have two beautiful boys and my husband and I know we only want to have one more child and we would love to complete our family with a little girl.
Dont get me wrong if i was to have a third boy I would love it just as much as my other children, however seeing as there is an option to know that we can have a little girl then that would be something we would like to try.

We have tried naturally using the Shettles method and timing etc. So far no luck and Im 33 so didnt want to wait too much longer.

Working with Genea in Sydney the closest place to have the procedure done is at Superior Art Clinic in Bangkok. An IVF specialist in sydney works with you and in conjunction with Superior Art to obtain the result.

Has anyone had this done or know much about it?

Any advice or info or thoughts would be appreciated!

The cost includes 10 nights acommodation in Bangkok too.

So not cheap, but a small price to pay in the big scheme of things if it allows you to have your family balanced.

Wow. That actually doesn't seem that expensive in comparison to say IVF, which can be close-ish to that, especially with 10 nights accom. Less than what I would have thought.

Now I'm curious... I don't know anything about this.

The have a website and you can email them.
They sent me some info and a costing outline.
I think then you would be in touch with Genea ( sydney IVF) and they then get you started and guide you through the process up unitl you go to Bangkok.
Genea works closely with Superior Art to monitor your progress.

If you search on Genea website it has abit of info too.

I was thinking that would be for each cycle Onyx. So it could end up being much more than that....

I wonder if the ivf part is eligible for Medicare rebate??

I doubt very much that Medicare would offer a rebate for a procedure carried out in BKK. Although they have had to cough up for the people who got condoms instead of breast implants from the dodgy plastic surgery holidays :sick:

Not cheap, no. But only $11000 if it works first try.

I have emailed them and they have replied already so will be reading through the attachment they sent. They are willing to contact sydney and organise them to look into it aswell. The problem is I dont think I could go to Thailand! im not a very well travelled person and to go to a country where I dont speak the language and its such a different culture just plain scares me.

I just dont know If you could do it here I would in a heart beat.

Just had a read through the email, and Its more closer to $20,000 after airfaires medication, scans and a couple of extras over there injections and things. It has the prices for everything. It also has the extra price for freezing extra embryos if there are viable ones and you may want more.

I was looking into this just a couple of weeks ago. The lady at the IVF clinic here told me that it was only a few years ago that gender selection was taken off the table in Australia. I wonder if there is a group or board or something that is trying to bring it back? While I was googling I found a website that organises everything for you and the price included airfares, accommodation and the procedure but it looked like most of the destinations were in America. While it was expensive I thought it was pretty good considering all that was included. I've just tried to google it again and can't find it though.

From my research you dont get any medicare rebate for procedures done out of Australia.
You may be eligable for a rebate from the IVF specialist that you see in Sydney before hand.

I looked into the American places too and from my research they all come back more expensive closer to $20000 and thats not including flights, airfare or medications etc.

I too wish it would be available here for people who just want to bablance their families. Just the logisitics of taking the time to travel to BKK and leave my other two kids here and have my husband take time off, it just makes it so hard.
Also the fact that we could go there and go through the processes and then it may not work. Thats hard. I know we could only afford to give this one shot.
Would love to hear some stories of people who have done this and had a successful outcome.

Cherished I would be far more keen if it was in America.

Im in the same boat as you saramac I would be only doing it once also, It's a worry that it might not work. We have never had a problem getting pregnant before its been first time but you never know what would happen doing the IVF.

Would you be willing to hear from people who did 'this' and did not have a 'successful' outcome? Or are you looking for positive feedback only?

If you want some idea of what it's like to go through IVF, then there are lots of women here on bb who can talk you through it.

Lenny - I have read on another forum about people who have gone through it and didnt have any embryos to transfer.
So was interested to hear about a successful one.
Either way happy to hear anyones experience positive or negative:)

I had an email from a nurse at Genea who has given me the name of a IVF specialist to go through. She is posting me out forms today to have a scan and blood test before our first appointment.
Im still on the pill and she said that I can stay on the pill as the scans wont be affected by it.

I have the forms ready to begin, we are just holding off for a few months until we can financially ready (as ready as we can be anyway!).
I am hoping to get it all happeneing soon. Im itching to start!

Only thing stopping us is money. We would realistically need about $15000 to do it when you include all the meds and airfares etc.
I would desperatly love to begin but my DH is the one worried about the financial side. Guess im the one thinking with my heart and he is thinking with his head ( or wallet!)

I have been taking calcium and magnesium to increase the chances of producing a girl if we do go down the natural way of conceiving.

There's also a part of me that says try naturally.
I have also looked into going to a natopath but can't find anyone in Melbourne that really specialises in GS.
I would love to sit down with someone who has done it so I know everything about the process.

It's a very big decision, I've also started thinking maybe I should wait until they review it in Australia, it meant to be in the next 3 year. Would be so much easier to do it at home.

Oh, I think you need to have a higher post count to PM.

If it was me and funds weren't an issue, I'd skip on Bangkok and head straight to the US. They will implant your female embryo. I saw it on 60 minutes. A woman did this after 6 boys!!!!! She got her girl. She was going back to the US to get her other girl on ice. :)

Junipear - Bangkok does the same as the US. Only difference is that Bangkok is closer and cheaper. Superior ART in Bangkok share a close relationship with Genea in Sydney so you can do all the prep leading up to it in Sydney and just fly to Bangkok for the procedure to retrieve and implant. The do PGD gender selaction same as US as far as i know.

If only funds wernt an issue, I would be there in heartbeat!

Have just checked back on this thread now, as I have resumed my research into gender selection via PGD. How are things progressing with you? I have just contacted Superior ART as well as an American fertility company for basic information, costs etc. What do you estimate the costs to be through Superior ART? Have they advised you of the success rates?

I have been in contact with New York and they seem extremely helpful with people from outside America. They said the cost will be between 15 - 17, 000. And you will have to be there for about 3-5 days min. So I don't think that it's too bad. Now for someone to just drop that amount of money in my bank account and I will be set to go lol

i have estimated that the treatment including accomodation and flights and medications etc is about $15000.
The american one works out to be about $17000 - $20000 just for the treatment - doesnt include flights or accomm.
I think the success rates are pretty similar in both places.
