WDYT of Amelie?
DH and I are STRUGGLING big time to find a girls name we like. We kind of liked Esmae, and that's still a contender, but it doesn't grab us really. I have a lovely friend named Emilie, and told DH I love her name and he does too. Then DH suggested Amelie, and it feels really good. Definitely clicks for both of us the way DD's name did.
What do you think? Too common? I can see us saying her name and people going, 'oh Emily?', but I don't think it's too much of a big deal. Does it go well with DD's name (Isla and Amelie)?
-
One of my favourites :) And not too common at all. I knew one Amelie and it was never pronounced Emily. So I'm sure you'll be able to work with that.
I think it goes beautifully with Isla.
-
I don't mind it, "Amelia" is extremely popular right now, if that doesn't bother you too much then go for it.
If it just feels right with you and DH then it's most likely the right name. :)
I think it goes well with Isla.
-
It's actually one of the names DF suggested for our bub! I think it's very sweet! As far as being confused for Emily, I think you could get that regardless of the name. I often have people think my name is Tania or Gaynor, and my name sounds NOTHING like either of those.
I think if it clicks for both of you, then you've got yourself a winner :)
-
I love it. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE.
Isla and Amelie sounds and looks beautiful.
It's French, it's feminine, it's all kinds of lovely :)
-
Beautiful name - my daughter is called Amelie. I sometimes find myself saying 'Amelie - with an A' to people who are writing her name down or 'the french name' but my name is also unusual and have spelt my whole life spelling it to people which is no problem. Her sisters call her 'Ami' (pronounced Amee) for short sometimes. I love her name. It goes well with Isla's name too (so they don't both end in an 'a').

I LOVE it :) To me it sounds so feminine and French and sophisticated.....:)
-
I love Amelie. We had a little Amelie in my old playgroup and no-one ever mucked up her name. Once you're introduced "This is Amelie", then that was that really. It's not like it's a difficult name. I personally find it way prettier than Esmae. Perhaps Amelie Esmae?
-
I really like it. DH and I love Amelia, but in light of it's popularity have considered Amalia and Amelie as well :D.
-
I love it a close friend has a 6 year called Amelie and a beautifully natured child. Initally had some issues by people mis pronouncing but been not a huge issue.
Goes nicely with Isla as well.
-
It's a lovely name and goes really nicely with Isla. I think you are onto a winner!
-
I love it! :heartbeat: My little french canadian niece is called Amélie and they always use the accent - helps with not pronouncing it Emily too!!!
-
Now that I think of it, there is a little girl in town called Amelie. Pronounce "Arh-ma-lee"
-
-
Omg tanstar I love it with the accent! Would it be too pretentious to use one I wonder, not being French?
-
Its a gorgeous name! I think it goes well with the name Isla too
-

-
I love Amelie, my niece is an Amelie :D She is quirky like the Amelie in the movie.
-
A friend of mine has an Isla and an
Amelie :) I love both names and think they go lovely together :)
-
WDYT of Amelie?
I love it so much!! It was on DH veto list. He's such a punk!
-
I love it too :) It goes fantastically with Isla as well! :D
-
I love it. A lady in front of me in the supermarket had a beautiful little newborn and her name was Amelie. It's one of those names that made me think "Arggh! Why wasn't that one on my list!!".
As for people thinking it's Emily, that can happen with any name. People think DD1 is called 'Gloria' (C laudia) and DD2 is a boy named Miller (M illa). It's generally strangers who get it wrong so they don't really matter :)
-
I love it, it's on our list of girls names (well mine anyway) It is the French version of Amelia I believe
-
-
-
Love it! Was on the top of my list for a while, but too close to a family angel so we decided against it.
I think it goes with Isla really well :)
I like Esmae, makes me think of Esme Watson ;p
-
-
Love it :) It made our short list.
-
I think is lovely and after the film lots of people will recognize it a distinct from Emilie or Emily.
Personally I wouldn't go with he accent as you are not French purely because when typing rather than writing most people here will drop it anyway. We know a gorgeous little girl called A*n*a*ë*l*l*e (her mum is French - think Anna Elle for pronunciation) and I do try to always include the two dots, but on phones etc is harder.
People will always mix things up though - DD is Cerys people think is Paris (which makes me laugh as anyone who knows me would know that there is no way that Paris is a name I personally would choose).
-
I adore it too. I wanted it so badly but my DH always pronounced wrong and if he could not say it right it was not a name I was going to always correct him on so we caleed DD1 Amelia.
It goes lovely with your DD
-
Love, love, love it! I wanted to use it for DD but DH stated it "wasn't a real name" (a phrase he uses for anything that is not 100% normal and popular.....makes choosing names very fun for me...not!)
-
I love it too - was one of our very short listed names
-
Love it! Was on my list, but ended up choosing E milia instead.

I love it! It was on the short list for my DD.
