DD11 and &^&%&% taxi driver

Our car is at the mechanics so I've been sending DD11 to school by taxi in the mornings. I picked her up this afternoon and she told me when the driver arrived at school he said to her "you're hot, do you want to go out with me'", she said "no" and got out real fast. I have the Reg and the driver's ID number, I'm going to ring the police I just needed to tell someone before I do. I'm so angry with this driver for upsetting DD in this way, how dare he say this to her and I'm feeling so guilty for sending her on her own. We get the car back tomorrow but I told her she'll never go in a taxi alone again.

That is disgusting. Your poor girl. I hope she's ok. I would be reporting it to the police and also the taxi board.

I've rang the police, he was so nice, took down details and is going to write up a report and send it to (can't remember where). It is going to be followed up, he also suggested to make a complaint with the taxi company, havn't done that yet. DD was doing ok up until I told her I was going to make a complaint, shouldn't have said anything to her. She started saying maybe she made a mistake, maybe it was a student walking past, maybe she heard him wrong, she's worried or scared. I've reassured her she's done nothing wrong, he is the adult, I also praised her for saying no straight away and getting out.

Poor kid :( totally not her fault, even if there was the slighter chance he was saying it about someone outside the car, it's still totally inappropriate!

Rang the taxi company and they said I need to make the complaint via e-mail. This has affected DD more than I thought, last night she was so very quiet, just not herself. She asked how she would be getting to school and I told her we can get a taxi but I will come too, she didn't want a bar of it, she was begging me for us to walk, which we did.

I'm just throwing it out there but are you positive he didn't touch her even if it was just a hand on the knee or her hand? That would be very traumatising for anyone let alone an 11year old, was she sitting in the front or back? She may not of told you the full story perhaps? I'd just dig a little deeper just incase?
It's terrible that you have to deal with this...I'm scared to get a taxi by myself and I'm 34!

It may be nothing but like she said even touching her hand would be traumatizing...
Maybe she could speak to a counselor?

These have been my exact thoughts too. She was sitting in the back, I asked her if anything else happened, did he touch you, she says no but she really didn't want to talk about it anymore. I reassured her that she can tell me anything but she really seemed uneasy so didn't want to push her. I'm feeling so bad about all this, never should have sent her on her own.

Okay, this is verrrrry left of field, I've been debating whether to ask or not...but could she possibly not be telling the truth? And now she's feeling uncomfortable because she didn't realise how far it'd go? Maybe because she didn't like getting taxi's and that could get her out of it? I don't know. Definitely keep reporting and pursuing, because it's sickening to think of a grown man telling a little girl she's hot and he needs to lose his job if that's the case :( :vomit:

I actually wondered the same thing as PZ. Perhaps she exaggerated the situation or *maybe* made it up. I wonder if her unease is due to a bit of attention seeking on her behalf (very normal behaviour for an 11 year old) getting out of her control. Maybe she felt very grown up taking a taxi on her own and her imagination went wild. Or maybe exactly what she said, happened.

I am NOT saying that your DD is a liar, just questioning the cause of her unease. You know her better than anyone else, we are just people on the end of a computer screen. I would suggest sitting down with her and getting to the bottom of her reaction to your complaint. Assure her that whatever happens she won't be in trouble and see if she will open up.

You are in a difficult position, Dianne. It's terribly important that you support your daughter, but not fair to the taxi driver if he in fact did nothing wrong. Good luck.

What ever you do, don't let her think you're doubting her, if thats the case.

I don't know, I had attention at not much older than her from someone who visited my dad. I thnk I was 12, he was 26. He never came back, since he was dumb enough to do it in front of one of dad's mates, but its not something I have ever discussed with my mum. Or anyone since really. It was embarrassing for me. Action was taken by my dad & his mates when I wasn't around. I never saw him again.

Maybe she's just worried about the consequences. He'll get in trouble or lose his job. That's why she's feeling uncomfortable. She doesn't want this person she's a little scared of to be angry with her.

Good luck Dianne. Don't feel guilty for something that was out of your control. He's a grow man & needs to be reported before he does something worse to someone elses child.

I didn't think of that PZ but that makes sense too...oh I feel terrible for you, it must be a very worrying time and trying not to push her too much would be hard! Hopefully you get some answers!!

It's possible that he told her that if she told anyone that he would come back for her, or hurt her, or hurt her family. This is not uncommon in predators.

You know your DD and you would know if she was lying. Please don't blame yourself - you can't have predicted this would happen. :hug:

OK, now I'm pretty sure I have the whole story. Still don't have the car so yesterday I needed to take the girls to the doctor, we caught the bus in but after finishing we had to wait 50min for the bus home. It's now 5.00p.m, both girls coughing and it's getting cold. I suggested we get a taxi home, I asked DD if she was comfortable with that and she said yes. While we are standing at the taxi rank a few buses go past and she kept saying why can't we catch that one (not knowing that it was not our bus), so I know she's not really comfortable with a taxi. So last night I took this opportunity and asked her if she was a little scared, she said yes. She said now this taxi driver knows where we live and starts crying. We continued talking and DD told me after he said what he did he also added at the end "sing a song during the day because I know where you live". So no wonder she was all over the place, no wonder why she was so scared after being threatened like that. I would so love to have a few words with this driver.

Oh, that just leaves a terrible sick feeling in your stomach.

That is something a young girl SHOULD not have to go through. Dont be hard on yourself for not going, your daughter was strong in saying No and dealing with the sitation the way she did. Just remember you are the one who bought your daughter up to be the wonderful person that she is. The sad fact is that she probably wasnt the first girl either, and wont be the last.

Have you spoken with your daughter school? Do they have a councillor who can provide support for her or point you in the right direction. I think your daughter would need the love and support from her family right now and extra support from external facilities.

The most important thing is that you believed her, and while she is scared, it is an important lesson to show her that you are going to protect her and how important it is to report him.

that guy obviously has problems, i hate to think what he has done before or will do in the future. so glad you reported it. dont feel guilty about sending her in the taxi by herself though.

That's so scary Dianne, what a creep. I'd be chasing it up and finding out the repercussions for this taxi driver. Who knows when he will get the confidence to take it further than just the comments. You should be proud that you have raised a confident young girl who was able to deal with the situation appropriately and talk to you about it. I really hope your DD is ok.

Wow Dianne, I would so love to get my hands on this guy. Your poor DD. Give her lots of hugs and let her know that the police are involved and that if this man comes anywhere near her he will be in so much trouble. I would also report the extra bit (him knowing where she lives) to the police as well. If he is this easy about it then it means he has done it before. Damn scumbag.

At least you'll have your car soon and won't have to worry bout taxis...not that you should have to worry but obviously they can be dangerous :-(

Oh the poor little girl .. how is she going now ?

I received a phone call yesterday from the taxi company, spoke to a lovely lady. Went through the whole story again, she asked whether the police took a stat dec from DD, to which I said no, she said that I may need to take DD into the police station or she would come out to my house and take one from DD herself. She checked with someone about this and said that because DD is a minor she will send me out a statement which I can complete on DD's behalf. She is going to perform a full background check on the driver and check whether there have been any other complaints before they interview him. I was a little concerned that it wouldn't be taken too seriously as it was a verbal remark but she totally understood where I was coming from. Havn't heard anything from the police and to be honest don't think I will but I'm so happy that the taxi company are taking things further.

I would think the police should be more involved though, it's rediculous they haven't gotten back to you :wall:
