What can 'Ellie' be short for?

I really like the name Ellie, but I feel it should be short for something else as opposed to the actual name. I know it can be short for Elinor or Elizabeth, but I'm not overly keen on those names.

Any other suggestions?

I have a friend who calls her daughter Ellie but her actual name is Elicia. It could be a nickname for Elise too.

I get Elle Ellie, ell and my name is ellouise. Any name with el at the beggining really.

Ellen, Eliana, Elise, Elspeth, Michelle, Rachael, Danielle... FWIW, DH liked "Ellie" for a girl but none of the long versions of it, I was OK with just Ellie on its own - we had a boy and he now gets called Welly, which is not the usual nickname you'd expect for his name (eg in your case Danielle would usually get Dan/Dani rather than Ellie).

My friends little girl is Ellorah....that can be shortened to Ellie!

I worked with a girl named Ellie, and that was her name! Wasn't shortened from anything :)

I know a couple of girls called Ellie and it isn't short for anything. I think it is gorgeous as a full name or shortened name :)

I always associate it with Elise.

Elanor & Eliza are two lovely ones that I think go lovely with your DD name. Does your DH have any he likes, I think I remember you saying he likes traditional names.

I've known two Ellie's, one was Ell&#233; (pronounced ellie) and the other was ellanah.

My niece is Ellie Mae (first & middle name) her family nickname is Elmo, but she does get Elle as well.

Friend's of ours have an Eloise who gets Ella Bella which I think is super cute and you could easily shorten it to Ellie too

My daughters name is Isabella but most people close to her and us call her ellie, its something that just happened over time, not quite sure how lol. My friend has an Estelle that gets called ellie too :)
