I am looking at getting some accupuncture to try and get my body ovulating.
I am just curious what experiences everyone has had with accupuncture. Anything you could add would be helpful. :)

Yes I started it when I had my first ivf cycle in April. Unfortunately the cycle failed but I kept up the treatments in preparation for another ivf cycle. I found the month after ivf by cd 14 I had hardly any cm so I was also prescribed Chinese herbs, by cd 17 I had lots of ewcm and really felt that the combination of needles and herbs helped me. Lucky for me I never needed another ivf round as I fell pregnant this very same month and I am now 20 weeks!
I continued acupuncture every week for the first 10 weeks, then continued fortnightly.
Goodluck I hope it helps you.
I had acu after my second miscarriage to regulate my periods.
They regulated after the first session and I was pregnant after my second session. I'm now 26 weeks. Definitely worth a go.

I used acupuncture to help conceive my second DD after I had no luck after about 9 months of trying.
i started treatment with herbs and acupuncture and conceived the first cycle after that.
Added benefit was that I felt so much healthier during treatment too. I felt my body responding really well, more energy, digestive system regulating, odd niggling pains sorted out.
I then saw my acupuncturist for the first trimester to help with morning sickness and then every now and again for the first year. I also got a lot out of it when I was suffering from PND.
I've seen an acupuncturist with each of my pregnancies (but only towards the end with DS1 and DS2 when I went overdue). The one I see now specialises in women's fertility and health and has a good track record of helping women to conceive. The local hospital also refer overdue mums to her as she's also good at getting things moving.
I would definately recommend it - with DD this year, I started acupuncture before ttc and then during the pregnancy and felt fantastic. It's also really good if you get a cold whilst pregnant and can't take much for the sinus pain etc as it releases the sinuses.
The lady I see now got my body ready prior to pregnancy and she also focusses on getting your cycle regular beforehand.
I had acupuncture with chinese herbs for about 6 months before I was made redundant and couldn't afford it anymore :(
In that time, I went from an 8 month cycle to an 8 week cycle, with pre-menstrual migraines. The migraines don't sound fun, but I was ecstatic because I used to get them when I first started menstruating, and when the PCOS kicked in, the migraines went away.
Obviously it didn't get me pregnant, but I have no doubt that if I'd been able to continue, it would've worked :)
Can you see just any acupuncturist or do you need to see one that specialises in fertility or similar?
I think they recommend that you see one experienced in fertility/womens health.
My acupuncturist couldn't help with my cycles (period was non existent) despite trying for over a year and also trying herbs, but did help with IVF while TTC both our kids. (Currently pg with #2). Also it's brilliant for helping with stress, sleep, and generally feeling better.
I had it to regulate long cycles, it was fantastic. Highly recommend.
Thank you all so much for sharing! Feeling really keen to get started. :)
I started acupuncture about 8 weeks before my 3rd cycle of IVF. I noticed a difference in my period straight away, had less pain & no clots ( which i used to always get). I didn't do the herbs because my acupuncturist knew my FS & she does not recommend it. But I felt so much better this cycle & we got out BFP this month! I think it can't hurt to try, good luck.
After doing 6x IUI, 3x IVF and 1x FET (all BFN) with our FS, I started acupuncture. We got our first ever BFP in the second month of treatments (without medical assistance), but unfortunately it ended in m/c. Several months (and another IVF) later, I changed to a new FS and he did a lap to diagnose and remove my endo. We did IVF#5 (first with the new Dr) and that gave us DD. I had been taking a break, but resumed acupuncture after the lap and continued it through the IVF cycle and pg (and I had a very easy pg).
When AF returned and we started TTC#2, I went back to acupuncture and, again, we got a BFP in the second cycle (without medical assistance). Unfortunately that one was a mm/c.
We are hoping to do a FET on Monday and I have been doing acupuncture to prepare for that and will continue through to the end of the cycle (and hopefully beyond).
It doesn't work miracles, but I do believe it can help. I'd highly recommend seeing someone who specialises in fertility.
Reading this has made me think about acupuncture, thanks! :D Does anyone have a vague price I'd be paying?
Mine was $80 per session they vary a lot. We can claim some back through phi I just haven't yet.
I'm in melb, I pay $45. Was $50 for the first session.
Mine is $70 (just had the first fee increase from $65 after 3 years). I get $18.90 back from my health insurance.
I'm in Perth and it's $80. I get $24 back from HBF.
I am currently doing acupuncture and I hate to say, I don't think it's working. I haven't had a period for about 4 months now so been doing acu for about 6 weeks and it doesn't seem to be doing anything :( I will have to stop soon too because it's just costing me too much. I pay $65 a week for the acupuncture and about $40 for herbs.
But i have discovered I am dairy intolerant and I have my bloating problem under control :)
I am an acupuncture convert. I started sessions when diagnosed with gestational diabetes when pg with DS1. I also had sessions when pg with DS2 and I couldn't shake sinus/colds and coughs and when we were ttc #3 and four rounds of clomid didn't help us conceive, I started sessions again. Every single time I've had regular sessions I've felt a huge improvement in my overall health and wellbeing.
Re: ovulation. Yes, acupuncture (weekly sessions) made me ovulate. It was no coincidence as my cycles were totally up the spout and irregular, so it was definitely the acupuncture. As part of the sessions, my acupuncturist would cup my tummy to draw the cold out of my body, then she did the acupuncture. As she was also a naturopath and did TCM, she put me on a sugar-free diet, upped my supplements and gave me chinese herbs. We tracked my cycle via morning BBT checks. The sessions cost $80 and I got approx $25 back via private health insurance.
Tasha - it took a few weeks for me to ovulate first time round with acupuncture, from then on I ovulated on approx CD30 each cycle until we conceived DS3. It took 3-4 months of acupuncture before we conceived.
Tasha, was reading this thread where you said acupuncture wasn't working and now your ticker says 39 weeks and 6 days pregnant :) How exciting. Do you think acupuncture helped? And were you seeing someone who was a specialist in fertility?
