Hi, so i have just reached 13 weeks and am showing all the signs of pre-eclampsia. I had it with my first pregnancy and was induced at 36 weeks.
My question is at my GP's visit today he mentioned that early termination might be on the cards. I am going for a whole day of tests on friday to check it all out.
I would like to know if there is any one out there who has experienced pre-eclampsia in their second pregnancys early on.
any help would be great.

Hi hun, how stressful. It is my understanding that pre eclamsia only occurs after 20 weeks gestation, what signs were you experiencing? You may have gestational high blood pressure or if you have protein in your urine you may have some form of kidney problems. I hope you get some answers soon and that everythign is ok with you and bub :hug:
from what i have read, my understanding was that pre-eclampsia can occur at any stage during pregnancy. i have head aches (that wont go away with panadol) blurred vision, pressure just below my breasts (in the middle of lower chest) and protein in my urine. all were indicators in my first pregnancy.
A friend of mine developed pre eclampsia at 18 weeks and had to deliver her son.

I had it in my first pregnancy, but a friend of mine had it in all 3. She discovered she has a high clotting factor (makes the blood thicker) she was on meds all the way many hospital stays & induced early. Also I once read a book written by a lady who had pre-eclampsia in all her pregnancies & wrote about how she dealt with it. (will try and find out what it was called)
Fx your bp and proteins are at manageable levels.

I'm so sorry you are going through this.
I was induced in both my pregnancies. The first time was because my BP spiked to very high levels 220/140 from memory) when I was 37 weeks. I had no BP problems throughout my pregnancy and even though my BP was so high, I didn't show any of the other symptoms of pre-eclampsia such as the protein in the wee so in the end my OB and I decided it wasn't classic PE just hypertension.
In my second pregnancy I had BP problems throughout, generally sitting around 120/90-95. I bought my own BP machine so I could monitor myself rather than go into the OB office twice a week and if the bottom number was over 100 I had to call in. I was on BP medication, aldomet and labetalol (sp) during pregnancy and nifedrepine (sp) after giving birth. Around 35 weeks the protein started appearing and I was induced at 36 weeks in order to avoid full blown pre-eclampsia.
It's a horrible, horrible thing as apart from maintaining a healthy diet, reducing my salt intake and trying to keep healthy there wasn't a great deal I could do. My BP would either behave or not and I wasn't in control.
Make sure you have complete confidence in your GP/OB/Midwife as you will really need their support to get through. Make sure they are listening to you. Because we worked together I was able to deliver vaginally both times.

Hope you all had a wonderful xmas and a safe new year.
Just wanted to update you all on the pre-eclampsia issues i was having:
I am now 26 weeks and have been monitored closely but obs and midwifes, with the medication and cut back in working days i have managed to carry and avoid termination. We are still taking it one day at a time but at this stage if everything continues to behave its self (me included) i will be able to carry up until 36weeks then will be induced.

I didn't see your original post either, how stressful for you! I am really glad things are going so well atm for you. I have no personal experience with preeclampsia (tho my sister had it to varying degrees with all three pgs) I have however recently discovered there's a possibility of IUGR in my current pg and was directed by some very knowledgeable women with first hand experience and positive results, to look into 'dr brewer diet recommendations etc'. I'd never heard of him before but from the research I've done it seems to make a very big difference and even a few weeks can be beneficial. I can't say for myself until at least thurs week when I have a repeat ultrasound.
If you're interested at all google 'dr brewer' and the first site that comes up is really informative.

And back to hospital I go. Nearly 30 weeks and showing signs of PE again :(

Here's hoping your PE settles while resting in hospital.
Take comfort in the fact that if bub needs to come sooner he/she will probably be strong enough now.
