Prep - How Many In Your DS/DD's School

We went to orientation at DD's school today and the principal said that so far 48 children had enrolled in Prep for next year. Out of those, DD knows around 13 of them which seems quite high to me compared to my own experience (yes, I know that was centuries ago) where I knew no-one because we didn't have kinder.

Just interested in knowing what the numbers are at your school? It seemed reasonably high for a small country school (there are about 3000 people in our town) but apparently enrolments have gone through the roof in the last couple of years.

54 here! Normally only 25. Apparently other local schools have a lot too. Baby boom year I think!

My DD goes to a small country school, there are 5 preps.

400 students last count at DS's school (prep-7 catholic school) with 3 prep classes of 23 students each. The first year they had a third class. From memory there are 2 classes of approx 23 kids of each other grade.

ETA - We live in Nth Qld, not really a small town but not large by city standards. This school is one of the smallest ones, there is a public primary school with 3000 students (7 prep classes of 27 kids :o )

3-4 Prep Classes of 18-22 Students is what we told when we toured but will find out next week at orientation. It is ~ 400 place school
DS knows nobody as he kinder/daycare a suburb over. I actually worry about it but i dont think he is a particularly socially anxious child so crossed fingers he goes ok.
He will miss his aunties though.

Two classes of twenty. Next year, there are three classes of twenty.

We have a big town, but ours is the smallest school.
2 classes of 22 for transition (our version of prep) - apparently their largest intake yet.

DD1 knew many many kids but that's because most of our primary schools have a preschool attached.

We live in country town of about 7000 there are 2 govt primary schools and one catholic. My sons go to he bigger of the state schools (around 300) this year 45 preps with 3 classes of around 15 really nice class size

I have no idea how many there will be in DS2's kindergarten class next year. When my older 3 started school, there were two classes of about 22-25 students in each. This year there were enough to have 3 classes of 15, and I think they are averaging about 18 in each now with new enrollments through the year. I don't think there are going to be that many in DS2's year group though. He will know probably 10 kids from preschool that will go to his school.

This year we have one class of twenty. Next year we are double streaming and will have two classes of a maximum of twenty kids. Each class will have one teacher and one assistant teacher.

DD2 will have 1 class of 24 in kindergarten at her catholic school, I think there will be 3 classes at the closest primary school.

Ages 2-6. from 8am-4pm 5days aweek and special classes on Saturday.
All kids have a sleep after lunch.

DS has 11 in his kindy. There are about 60 in the school. 11 is big for them! DD was the only kindy when she started at a different school :lol: 12 in the school.

We went to a private school as kids & averaged about 20 to a class, but the year my younger sister started they had to split the class because they had over 40. Similar sized town at the time (maybe a little bigger).

19 preps enrolled so far for next year! As far as I know they're all in DS's pre prep class.

2 prep classes of 22 students this year
next year there will be 2 prep classes of 20 and possibly a prep/1 class if they get any more enrolements

We've got around 700-800 students in the school. There are 6 prep classes of 22 chn. Apparently that is the most they have had in a long time.

This year we have 80 odd next year there are 125

Not at school yet but when DD1 goes to school we have a choice of the local school that at the moment has like 18 kids TOTAL in the school or the other local primary.

WHEN it comes time for school if the 4yr old kinder enrolements for the area are anything to go by and IF they were all going to the 1 local school there would be over 150 preps.
The kinders had 130 enrolement requests and only 100 places, that didn't include those going to the kinder programs in the local child care centres.
So at the moment the 2 main kinders are running 2 groups each so that would equal 4 kinder classes PLUS the other private kinder and childcare kids :o

2 classes of about 20. There are just under 200 students in the school but that number includes the special kids and the montessori kids who have their own spaces.

About 350 kids in the school - last year there were 76 preps, this year 80 preps. Next year there will be 7 grade 1/2 classes. Our school has turned itself around in the past 5 years and has gone from being quite unpopular to being very well attended - fortunately it has room for about 600 students!

3 classes of 27 kids. Pretty much 1.5 of those classes are of siblings of other kids attending the school already. The school is under pressure as we are zoned and a Catholic school and they have had to knock back parents who are in the zone and Catholic due to high volumes of siblings. It in the past has not left enough places for those who fit the Catholic and Zoned criteria who do not have a sibling attending the school. The school has a sibling policy.

we have been told that they have experienced the biggest uptake to date for next year of 67 preps :o The class sizes are remaining at 21-23 kids. The school officially only has capacity for 45...so will be *interesting* to see how it all pans out. I am a bit disappointed as it is a teeny tiny school for a big city (245 students from prep to 6), but the vibe is still awesome and the staff are all really engaged and keen, but time will tell...

30+ enrolements for next year. Up from the low 20's. School has a limit of about 105 students in total.

So do you mean that there are 40 kids in each room or 40 preps in total?

The school we are looking at has 7 prep classes of 25 this year. Who knows what it will be like in 2014?

We're looking at 9 classes of 20. So about 180 preps next yr. The school will have about 980 students. I don't know how much its affected by the shut down of Acacia College.

My DD is currently in prep and there are 81 preps in total. 3 classes of 20 and one of 21.

Small country town and they have 47 but are expecting closer to 60. Will be either 2 straight plus a P/1 or 3 straight if the get the numbers with 20 max in each.

DS will be going to Laurimar PS.

Our Prep to 12 school would be lucky to have 400 students.
DS' prep class next year will have around 18 kids - that will be all of the preppies.
We live rather rurally though with most students catching the bus to school (I'm about 35kms from the school).

bilby is near the end of her first year (as a preppie). She has 31 in her class. I think the average is more like 25 in normal classes. One of her playgroup mates is in a class of 16 (another school). When more kids enrolled, his school began additional prep classes, rather than make the existing prep class bigger. (both schools are public). i don't know how many preps are in her entire school. i do know there is a mainstream Prep class (bilby's is a Steiner Prep class). I feel sorry for the teachers with the bigger classes (more time on behaviour management needed).

Just under 300 students and 2 classes of prep with 20-24 per class.

Knowing that many is normal when its a feeder school for a kinder.
