No earlier than Dec 1st. It was always the rule in our house and Im carrying on the tradition.

DS1 has been telling me since oct that we need tree up!!
We saw santa today at highpoint kids went nuts LOL very excited this year!
Ours has been up for a month... They asked I said why not! We always waited until 1/12 but life is too short to be so rigid!
And meh to all those that say its bad luck, we make our own luck ;)
We put ours up on the Saturday before the first Sunday in Advent, or the 1st of December, whichever is earlier. As for Advent we hang stars on the trees rather than having a calender. This year, they both fall on the same day, so 1st of December here. The latest possible date. Have to make DH get them down from the loft... may start on that one this weekend.
DS started asking at the start of the month, we counted there were 29 days before we put the trees up. (But two and nine is eleven, and one and one is two, so can we put the trees up in two days, Mamma?)
I have 2 boys with birthdays on the 22nd November so ours doesn't go up until after then. Generally it is the next weekend so this year it will fall on the 1st dec
Outs will be going up after Buster's birthday which is on the 2nd of December :) Probably the weekend following so the 8th or 9th.
1st December for us too - DH is a total control freak about it so its not a day earlier or a day later.
I remember a kazillion years ago that my brother and I put up our Christmas tree when we got home from school one day - back in the days when it was just us and my Mum. Poor mum was at work and came home to the tree - lights, tinsel, the works. For some reason she got a bit grumpy with us and told us to put it all away. Don't know why. It was October after all . . .
We'll be doing it this weekend. Why not? DS is keen. He has had me reading him a little golden book called rudolph the red nosed reindeer already lol!
I've left it until 1.12 or later in the past. This will be our first early year.

Next weekend so 24/25 November. Normally it is first weekend in December, but we have things on both days that weekend, then I am taking the kids interstate for a week, so I want them to enjoy it for a while!
So jealous, TMS. And Lulu, I have a similar memory. Only Sis and I didn't wait for my mother with the camera instead.
Sadly, I have to wait for DH to help: it's stashed in the loft and it does take 2 people to move everything and find it, then get everything safely down. Very tempted to put it up on the 24th, so it's ready to go for the 1st of December and we can hang our stars on that morning. Plus I have to organise DS's stars into his advent thing my mother bought him with pockets for every day (my mother intends for DS to have a lolly a day: still not happening even though she bought a big thing with 24 pockets on and lots of lollies). Stars are better than food, in both my book and Liebling's!
Going to push for the 24th. Liebling and I aren't doing anything else that weekend.
I am sure as kids we always waited until December 1st but Im not sure this year. I would like to do it early but were so busy the next two weekends who knows! I am also not looking forward to it as i have a very curious toddler and were not really intt safety gates (and would prefer not blowing christmas $$$ budget on buying them!)
Mid December so the tree lasts longer and is fresher for Christmas Day.

1st December. the kids are just going to pulling and poke at it so I'm not in a hurry lol. we use to take it down on the 1st January but DD2's birthday is on the 31st Dec so it comes down on the 27th Dec now.
we put ours up after our twins birthday which is the first week in dec- only cause it takes up so much damn room and we really need that room when we have their birthday celebration with as they always end up being heaps of people.
My mum has had her tree up for 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is Advent? I.know the calanders but it was never explained to me.
We watched "Arthurs Christmas" tonight so now the boys are in the swing of things ;)
"Advent" is the lead-up to an event. So when most people say Advent, they're talking about the lead-up to the birth of Jesus Christ - but you can have the advent to moving house, that time with all the boxes cluttering up your home and that thing you NEED is packed and under another 3 boxes. Like our tree last year (why we have two this year!).
In the Church calendar, there are four Sundays in Advent, four weeks to think about Christmas things basically (and four bonus big stars for my tree). There are 6 Sundays in Lent, which is the run-up to Easter, indicating that Easter is actually more important (you know, with our sins being removed and Christ rising from the dead and all that). But no fat man, jolly tree nor presents, so less celebrated.

Most accept that Easter is a hijacked festival celebrating Oestre, a fertility godess, and eggs are a symbol of fertility. The Easter Bunny also comes from here (yup - we celebrate the time of year when they're at it like rabbits, if not like Easter Bunnies).
Others say "who cares it makes no sense - it's a chocolate festival!"
eta - makes more sense if you're in the Northern Hemisphere and Easter is in the springtime when it is starting to get warm.

I always felt silly singing "white Christmas" cause I was used to pavolas and sunburn, bbqs and the beach for Christmas. Not egg nog and snow.
Still haven't had a white Christmas but its below zero around then.
Thanks for the info. My grandparents were catholic but mum rebeled hard and became a sufi so I never really got the full story about these things :)
Ours will go up as close to the 1st of December as possible. I'm really excited about it this year because although DS will be 20 months old at Christmas and still not really 'get it', he will love the tree and all the sparkly things on it!

Ours is up! Here in Adelaide it's a bit of a tradition to take the kids to the Christmas pageant (usually the 2nd Saturday in Nov) then come home and out the tree up
Nothing Christmassy happens until after my birthday, before that it's all about me! :lol: so generally 6th dec at our place.
In my house, with a plastic tree, it's Dec 1st.
At my folks' house, with a real tree, it's the week before Christmas so that the pine smell is still there and the tree doesn't fall apart.
1st December here too for all decorations including the tree.

Generally Dec 1st here too. I'm buying a new (black) tree this year. I'm not buying it until the 28th otherwise I'll be too tempted (& DS will want to) put it up as soon as its in the house.
December my two trees will go up, but nothing else because I'm not home for Xmas this year, I'm going home (first family xmas in nearly 10 years).
For me, Easter is a much more holy time. Easter Day is a celebration but the lead up is much more sombre and reflective.:
We have a green tree with blue, white and silver deco's. I really want a white tree with all the bright funky colours, lime, purple, aqua etc and I want a black tree (really tall and slim) with old gold, deep red and forest green deco's!:
Have room for a second tree in this house so I'm very very tempted to get another one this year.

Wow! you are all way too organised. I think last year we bought ours (a real one!) and put it up the 23rd or 24th of December. we used to go chop one down up bush but heaps of them got lost on black saturday so not so many to choose from.
We used to always wait til after my birthday (26/11) so usually beginning of December. This year, I just need to get it done lol. I don't have time to plan it, weekends are too scarce! So as soon as I get time on Sunday the tree will be up here :)
As a kid, we always went and cut one down on the weekend before Xmas and one of our Christmas eve traditions was everyone helping to decorate it.
Now we do it sometime in Dec, whenever I get organized cos DH wouldn't even think of it! Think it will go up pretty early this year as I'm actually organized *dies of shock*
My DDs birthday is Dec 14th so we don't put any Chrissy decs up, listen to carols at home or do anything Christmassy until ater then. I don't want her birthday being overshadowed every year so Dec 15th is the rule in this house. After then it's all go though!!!
