This is probably my biggest pet peeve! When you use a toilet, do you check after flushing to make sure everything is ... pretty? It's so disgusting to go to use a toilet and apparently the person before hasn't flushed :/ Even worse is when someone uses our toilet at home and leaves it disgusting - seriously, what is so hard about double checking before you leave the room?!
Am I the only one who has a problem with this? Anyone have any tips on how to toilet train my brother in law?
I'm a checker! I hate walking in to see it unflushed or half flushed.

Honestly we had someone stick a used pad to the wall one day and leave it there, WTF is wrong with people!!!
I check and will sort out mess 99% of the time. Sometimes I need to dash, but will only not check after urination rather than the other.
I am surprised in a country where drought and water shortage are a constant issue that you all don't live by the maxim "If it is brown, flush it down. If it is yellow, let it mellow". The amount of water wasted by people flushing the toilet is absolutely absurd.
I always flush at someone elses house/public but at home I barely flush during the day.
My toilet often has skid marks on it because when I empty a nappy in there it sometimes splats onto the side. I really don't have time to be cleaning the toilet constantly.
I'm with Arte. I do a quick brush for skiddies, but if there's a bit of bog roll left behind, I tend to leave it for next time.

I hate toilets in public where there's no brush. If I flush and see a skid mark, then I like to clean it up!
DH has no such philosophy :rolleyes:
But at home I do tend to leave it if its yellow, like Arte!
Always check, always clean it up, always get p****ed with DF for leaving it for me to see. Gross.
Home I might be a little more lax, as others have said. But if out or at someone else's house I definitely check!

At home we are water conscious and do the yellow let it mellow especially at night as the toilet is right next to the kids room and flushing wakes them. Although my kids have been know to be uber water conscious and they let everything mellow :lol: I think my tolerance for other people's excrement has increased being a parent - it really doesn't bother me anymore. If I go somewhere and someone hasn't flushed I will just go in and flush it. Meh, no big deal.
Bit more water conscious here too. Sometimes let it mellow at home, but not if there are visitors here. Always check at work.....we have the occasional 'dripper' who leaves a drop on the seat!
At night we let it mellow, not only for the water, but because the bathroom is right next to DD's room and the loo wakes her up sometimes. We used to do it during the day as well, but since moving into our new place we flush each time because the toilet is a water saver one and has hardly any water in it, so it kind of needs it done. We clean with white vinegar and bicarb every day or two. I always check to make sure there aren't any skids, either from me or emptying DD's nappy (something we've only started probably 2 weeks ago) and just give it a quick brush if there's any evidence lol.

I always flush. And check. And wipe the toilet and bleach regularly. We have been saved many times from gastro passing through the house by my vigilance. And I have a morbid fear of gastro. I will not use a public toilet if its dirty. I'd rather hold on. And the smell of sitting urine makes me want to puke. I'm probably destroying the environment one flush at a time but my paranoia wins.
I'm sure I read once that there's actually a sewer problem here, because of all the water saving toilets, and there's not enough water to move everything through? Not sure if I wanna google it though :rofl:
While water saving toilets are great, I'd prefer a proper one. I have to properly clean it everyday to second day, it's definitely an adjustment with hardly any water.
It can be a problem in some properties apparently, I saw something on new inventors show about a device to combat it - so in some cases can be better to do the mellow yellow and then do big flush.:

At home we let it mellow when yellow, esp overnight so as not to wake the kids with the noise of the flush. DS only flushes poos which is fine, and knows to flush when we are out. He loves to waste water while washing his hands though so I normally head into the bathroom when I hear him in their to remind him
I am constantly surprised by how disgusting women can be. I thought we would be clean creatures but NO.

We flush and check, as we live in an older house and if we don't flush all away the house pongs. :)
Used to not flush at our old place but that ended up with a few blockages. So I learn at least once a day to do a full flush when toilet empty to move all the gunk.

It was more during the severe water restriction times that sewers not having enough water became a real issue.
The biggest problems with sewers is people flushing all the things they should not, like nappies, pads, condoms etc. Also cooking fat down the drains is an issue. If you do that, make sure you use hot, hot water and detergent to break it down. Oh, just in case you think you can get away with it, the guys who camera the sewers know exactly which houses pour cooking fat down incorrectly.
Back to the topic. I am vigilent when elsewhere, not so much at home. Sometimes though with all the muck around with the kids, it can be hard to remember if the toilet flushed properly or not.
We have dam water plumbed into our toilet so it's always brown anyway :lol: and it does stain the bowl after a while so even after a good scrubbing with bleach etc it always has a brown sheen to it so now I give the seat a wipe over one a week or more if it needs it and other wise I just leave the bowl. Plus being on a septic system, too much bleach isn't ideal anyway because it kills the bacteria that break it all down. I will not use an unflushed toilet in public though - there is a big difference to one that has been flushed and not all of it went compared to a toilet that just has not been flushed at all - that's just gross.
I feel exactly the same Rouge. Pee sitting around staining your toilet bowl is disgusting. And to walk in and smell pee on a hot day :sick: I will only use public toilets if I am about to wet my pants. And I only use bleach when cleaning it, nothing else will do. I am very anal when it comes to the toilet (excuse the pun :lol:):
Another thing...isn't the half flush there for a reason?
We dont use the half flush because it's hopeless. Even with the full flush we often have to flush twice. Particularly DF who thinks he needs to use 1/2 a freaking roll of toilet paper in one 'sitting'. Im pretty stingy with the paper and still often have to flush twice. Dodgy toilet. It's brand new too :(.
Yes, to annoy the pants offa me when it fails to remove ANYTHING!
I have been known to go out of my way to return to a toilet that I can't remember flushing.

Me too! I hate the ones in some shops where you have to hold it down to flush it properly!
