A different way of asking for cash? :dunno:
They just want cash, not items
Could it be as simple as something in a box? So they don't want appliances or dinner sets or..?
What does that leave - towels? They don't come in boxes. Kitchen utensils?
Kind of a strange request...
Give them a toaster minus the box and with a bow around it lol
Oh cash. Right!
I have zero problem with a request for cash instead of items, but I really dislike that wording.
Oooohhh, that is so rude :0
Get them a pony.
Huh? Never heard that before. Rude... but I do have a problem with asking for cash instead of a gift :dunno: Give them a box which contains a note saying "we were going to fill this box with cash but you asked for no boxed gifts. Congrats on your marriage."
Lol Olive, Livinthedream and Nickle!!!
I hate the concept personally. I think you should donate a toilet to an African village on their behalf.
ETA: I should add that when giving money at a wedding/reception is part of the culture, that's something different and acceptable
Wow! That's a bit of a rude way of asking for cash!
I like some of the suggestions above. Very creative!
Maybe they want no gift.
I like the pony or the toilet-in-africa idea.
Or a pot plant. As in a rosebush or something. Not marijuana. Different pot.
Kitchenware, linen, it's stuff we have lots.
Same with furniture, appliances and saucepans and pots.
We don't need towels, plants, or vases at all.
And when it comes to kettles and toasters our needs are small.
Really when it comes household stuff we have a pretty good stash,
So forget all that crap and just GIVE US THE CASH!
Give them a pot plant or a bottle of plonk! Or what about a wheelbarrow to carry out all the envelopes of cash they get
I would take it as not wanting mass produced crap like housewares, but personalised gifts or cash are welcome. So if the is something special you would like to get such as keepsake things then that is fine, just nothing for the sake of buying something itms
From urban dictionary:
no boxed gifts
The "no boxed gifts" simply means that the couple prefers cash, which is a often a customary "gift" in India by persons other than close friends and family.
Commonly found on the bottom of an invitation:
No Boxed Gifts Please
If it's cash it's a double dip - I got a gift resgistry thingo for the brides party so I guess I am meant to buy the bride a gift and then cash for both of them. Bugger that.
We got a cheapo gift from the registry and they can have a duck instead of the cash (or maybe a pile of poo).
I sound really cheap don't I lol.
Normally I'm ok with outfitting a new home via wedding gifts for a young couple but this particular couple is breathtakingly materialistic and frankly they can afford to buy their own dyson.
Clearly they want cash.....put it in a plastic bag instead
Traditional custom is for the bride to get gold from guests on her wedding day but her family might be from a different ethnic group so maybe they get money.
I'm pretty sure that a Myer gift registry for the hen's party isn't part of any Afghan wedding tradition....
You know what....I've changed my mind... Don't give them anything.
You get married because you love someone. It's about love and family.
If the reception is costing you a lot of money and you are asking for cash to help pay for it then reconsider. You obviously can't afford your "dream wedding". I can't afford my dream home, but you know what? I'll get over it.
We had a backyard BYO affair. I know it's not for everyone but it was wonderful and gave my cousin's beau the courage to ask her to marry him - silly man didn't realise you could do something low key. They ended up tying the knot the following year in his parent's garden - another beautiful event.
Get your priorities right. Buy that toilet for the African village instead.
Oh dear, I think Aunt Flo must be hanging about...she seems to have left her high horse!
That's a really rude way of saying cash please! Wow, I'm gobsmacked!
