Hey, so I'm getting my tubes done. Got the referral and the waiting list is under three months. Just waiting to get an exact date. Pretty excited.
So. If you got your tubes done via keyhole, what was recovery length like??

When I was looking at it a few years back, they said about a week, which I would imagine would have been similar to my lap surgery recovery. the week was why we went with DH having it done - shorter recovery time (only a few days)
Not sure. Just saw that you've had a lot of people read, but only 1 real response, so just bumping it up for you to see if anybody else can help you
Thank you. My ob said I'd only be observed for the day.
I'm so looking forward to getting a date.
He was more than happy to get the ball rolling given my pregnancy history
That's great to hear you got the go ahead! I have an appointment in a few weeks to get on the waiting list.
Glad to hear your Ob got you on the list, that's not a bad wait time either. Wishing you the best hun.
Regards,
Dianne
a day stay will be ok, key hole surgery isnt too bad. you will feel sore at the incision sites and where your tubes are. the worst pain for me was the shoulder tip pain from the gas they use to inflate your stomach. but using a heat pack helps. let your body be the guide in the days afterwards and dont overdo it and you will be fine
Hey, I had the surgery yesterday. Feeling a bit miserable, belly is OK but the shoulder tip pain is surprising. I really didn't expect it to hurt so much. I've been burping up a storm trying to get rid of the gas in my abdomen. I can't lay down, had to sleep sitting up last night because of the air in my belly.
Doing lots of sitting down and light walking trying to move the gas, DH has been great. :)
Hoping for a quick recovery. :)
Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks for updating. I hope you have a quick recovery.
Ok so what is this shoulder tip pain you speak of? I'm booked to have mine done next month and I haven't heard of it.
How is the gas in your belly? Does it just feel like bloating?
Really hope you feel better soon
I have heard of warm showers and heat for the shoulder pain. Just a rumour though. Hope it improves soon.
I had terrible shoulder tip pain following a laparoscopy. A heat pack was good. Also try not to be too immobile - I spent four days lying on the couch, then on the fifth day had to go see my Dr to get stitches out and when I got out of the car I nearly passed out from the pain - seems lying around meant the gas didn't disappate so I got a massive jolt of pain. Not fun!!
Basically, for them to do the lap surgery they need to inflate your abdomen with gas so they can enlarge the stomach enough to see all your organs etc. It can take a while for all of that gas to leave your body and pockets of gas can get trapped - generally in the shoulder/upper chest area. I didn't have it after my first lap surgery, but I had it pretty bad after my second one. It is like a sharp, searing pain like someone is sticking a hot poker into your shoulder area and it hurts like a mo-fo. I didn't really feel bloated afterwards but I did feel a little sore - presumably from the poking and prodding as well as being inflated like a balloon  So you may or may not get it, but just be prepared for it so if it does happen you don't think there is something wrong.
Thanks for the info Trill, I'll definitely keep that in mind! Surprising the surgeon never mentioned anything when I saw him last month.
I suppose they wouldn't make a point of mentioning it because it's one of those things you may or may not get anyway, but at least if you know you can be prepared for it instead of getting this horrific pain and freaking out.
No medical professionals told me about shoulder tip pain. Although, when I was woken up the first thing I said what "omg, my shoulder!" and got told "Yes, that's normal"
Day 4 and it's slowly getting there. Today has definitely been an improvement over the last few days. Just got terrible lower back pain.
Glad to hear you're on the mend!
Just thought I would add my experience.
I had my tubes clamped via keyhole surgery last week. I had no issues at all. Around my belly button was a bit tender that night and the next day but I didn't need any painkillers. By Day 3 there was just an occasional twinge with some movements. I had no shoulder pain at all, but my surgeon puts in a gas drain tube that is poking out of your belly button when you wake up and they pull it out before you go home - seems to have done the trick.
I'm just bumping this up. My tubes are being tied Wednesday and I'll have the kids by myself Thursday and will have to drive the boys to Daycare on Friday. Going by the experiences here it will be the shoulder tip pain that will cause the most trouble? Ive got heat packs at the ready - any other experiences or tips appreciated [emoji1]
I had mine done around a year and a half ago. I was in a moderate amount of pain that day/night and stayed in bed most of the next day, it wasn't terribly painful but if u were to over do it, it would be a different story I think.
Honestly if I were you I'd be looking for someone to give u a hand with the kids at least for the day after the surgery.
I was back to normal within about 3 days :)
Thanks Jaycee. I'm planning to camp on the lounge room floor with the kids for the day. My DS1 who is 5 is planning to be my helper for the day :)
Good luck, hope it all goes well xx
Hope the op went well and you manage to have an easy day tomorrow.
Thanks :) I'm doing ok, a bit tender but no pain. Some mild shoulder ache overnight but all gone this morning! The hardest part is the emotional side, as much as I definitely don't want to have more children, the thought of that part of my life being officially and permanently over is making me a bit sad :(
I went through the same thing and still do to some degree, definitely don't regret it though, just s little sad it went by so quickly! Big hugs!
