Just wondering about the 'rules' of fashion and which ones people break.
Are you a redhead that wears pink? Do you rock your diamonds in the daytime?
Me......
I'm not fussy about matching my shoes and handbag. On the contrary I think it's kind of boring and I see lots of awesome outfits that don't so obviously I'm not alone lol.
Don't mind wearing black and brown leather
Diamonds in the daytime - they look lovely in the sun.
I'm perfectly happy to wear gold and silver tones together.
I am pretty much the same.
I do suspect there are many fashion rules that I break just due to me not knowing about them.
Yep, I wear gold and silver together too. My wedding rings are yellow gold but I have a lot of silver toned jewellery and if I wasn't prepared to mix the too I'd never get to wear it.
My shoes rarely match my bag.
I wear my hair too dark for my eyebrows.
I don't really have any rules other than I have to look neat. If an outfit doesn't flatter my figure or I look a bit messy it's out.

I also wear what I like, regardless of the decade it came from and regardless of whether or not it's in fashion. My sister despairs on this particular point :lol:
Every time I leave the house LOL. I don't even know what the 'rules' are anymore. I see women wearing so much **** that is apparently called *fashion* these days so if they are the fashionable ones, then i"m glad I'm not!

I try and make sure my clothes are clean and cover the essenitals. They are my fashion rules!
One fashion rule I despise seeing broken is the "legs or bust, not both" when choosing an outfit. Not that I have the legs to show off anymore but when I did, a short skirt meant a high neck and I really dislike the look of a woman with a teeny skiny dress that barely covers her vagina and shows a huge amount of cleavage. Something like this http://lingerieholic.net/images/r-products/DL21371.jpg was what most of the women were wearing the last time I went to a club and they spend most of the time sorting their outfits so they weren't flashing. Legs or bust ladies, and the issue is totally avoided.
Sorting yourself in public? I hate seeing that. I'd rather see someone flash than watch them pull their skirt down lol.
The sleeve in that pic is funny - it would be so annoying IRL.
I didn't even know you should match your shoes with your handbag. haha.

I just wear what I like and what is comfortable. Im a sweater so that involves lots of tank tops and 3/4 shorts. Or on a very cool day a loose t-shirt and pants/jeans.

I used to be really fashionable, I loved my style, it was uniquely me, kitsch and cute. I did break the rules but it worked. Now, ugh, I'm so generic. I buy from cheap chain stores instead of buying quality, or funky pieces from op shops. It depresses me actually. I think it all started about 6 months after I started saying DH. Birth control and a comfy relationship had me go from a happy 60kg to a fatty lol. I'm sure once I'm thinner again I'll be fabulously breaking all the rules again.

I wear gold & silver together aswell as diamond earrings during the day (sapphires too) they look lovely so why not!
I don't match shoes & bag, he'll I don't own enough of each to match.
TBH I'm not very fashionable & probably break all the rules anyway.
PZ, you're still uniquely you, kitch and cute. I think we all go through stages where we feel like our external appearance doesn't reflect our internal vibe. I think for mothers it's extra hard - your body shape changes so most of your clothes don't fit and by the time they do there's a good chance you've moved on from that aesthetic anyway.
The only two I truly have an issue with are wearing pink and red together and wearing different animal prints at the same time.
Seriously, pick one or the other or the other, woman, you look like a safari park.
But I don't match bags and shoes and but I do wear one colour of jewellery at a time. I wear what is comfy and try and find things that suit my body shape, which decade they come from is irrelevant.
Another rule breaker here. Especially on the gold & silver front!
Other the the blue & green rule, not sure I really know any others anyway. (That is one rule I never break!)
Lol @ Safari park. I used to work for a woman who was obsessed with animal print. She even put a leopard print carpet on the floor of the pub. People would come in and comment about how weird it was and I would point out my boss in her leopard print and they would get it.

Im pretty standard when it comes to fashion. I am at the age where I can't get away with what I used to wear and have only just realised this recently :/
I really couldn't give 2 hoots. I'm sure I do it everyday. My sense of fashion hasn't been "the norm" for a very long time so I am very used to people being weirded out by my dress sense. And now I'm more conservative than I have ever been!
Gasp! No diamonds during the day?? What is this 'rule' of which you speak?!
I hope I never break the 'mutton dressed up as lamb' rule. Ya know... that red dress - on a 60 year old woman. There are times I have to remind my mother of her age!
Decided to look up more supposed rules out of interest:
Never wear black and blue together
Tall women should not wear high heels
Never mix and match prints
Sequins are for evening wear only
Short women should never wear long dresses
Oh - forgot the major rule, that I never break and should never be broken by others (well small children excepted):
Leggings are NOT pants
Yes, I break the rules, and I make it work (if I say so myself, although many people have complimented me on my clothes, so I must be doing something right, at least sometimes...)
I wear pink and red together. I wear blue and green together. I wear socks with sandals. I wear suits with sneakers.
As I get older, my style is getting more and more eccentric. I think I'm going to be one of those old ladies with bright orange hennaed hair who wears stripy socks and strange hats...
I definitely break this one too. I figure that since I'm taller than most people anyway, a few more inches won't make a difference....:

Only if you have a long top on! I wear leggings, but always have a long top to cover most of my butt :):
I wear leggings as pants sometimes. Bit only with a top that sits halfway down my butt, so semi long I guess.

Some days the best dressed people I see are the eccentric old ladies. They sometimes have style to die for.
Does anyone else follow The Sartorialist's blog. He often has older people on it and I love the way that they seem to have access to a whole group of little touches that we don't. Things that might have been in fashion for a while 30 years ago like a way of tying a scarf or handbags that just aren't around anymore.

I break the 'short women shouldn't wear long dresses' rule. I'm a shorty and I love maxi dresses and skirts.
Diamonds should be worn 24/7 IMO!
And I wear gold and silver and leggings (but leggings only to the gym, that's ok isn't it?).

I think gym fashion is different. I don't call them leggings though, but 3/4 length bike shorts ;)
The only leggings are wear are with a dress or tunic that comes below mid thigh. Basically for me they are just thick tights.
I wear long dresses even though I am short.
I wear long dresses and skirts (floor skimmers) and am short. Looks a hell of a ll t better than wobbly pasty white legs hanging out lol. Plus when pgs I look bangin' in a maxi skirt/dress. They're elegant.
I never match shoes and bag. I wear whatever jewelry I feel like- including pink earrings if the fancy takes me.
In winter (when not pg lol) my trademark is stockings/leggings etc of every kind. In summer it's lipstick. I'm loving the corals and oranges on my fair skin.
Today's splurge? Crackle nailpolish. Yeahhh baby! One thing I really hate is giggly bits and rolls. Shapewear ladies. I bought some 3 sizes bigger today so it can be pulled up over my belly lol. I'm all about the silhouette. Had to ditch the pants and now I'm in a tubular slip. Comfy as and sexy too. I got a half one but it hurt my belly so that ones been stashed for post-baby.

I wear comfortable shoes to work (well I walk 4kms to get to and from work so why wouldn't I?).

In general I try and look neat, but I'm often just happy to be comfortable. I know I should dress up more for work (not that I need to worry for a while now). Yeah, comfort is my style lol.
Fashion "rules"? Oh please. I have a handbag that's black and brown leather, so how is black leather with brown against some "rule"?
Are these rules laminated and stuck up on the walls of the fashion shops? No. Are they explained to us at the start of the shopping season? No. Are we given detentions if we break them? No. They're not rules then, just some silly person trying to oppress us.
I've worn pink when I had red hair (hmmm, may book myself in for some more red highlights, I'm bored of my hair atm - and keep the pink). I wear diamonds and pearls, even in the day time if I want to. Gold and silver? How about gold, silver, copper, leather, coral, wood and plastic. Including LEGO jewellery. And it looks good.
The only "rule" I follow is that my clothes have to suit me. And I'm getting pickier about how fantastic I should look. ATM I can get dressed in the dark and know the answer will always be "damn fantastic". Even if I wear a grey skirt with snakeskin/turquoise heels, a pink blouse and red hair with a mish-mash of jewellery, black belt and cream bag. And a brown beret to finish the outfit.
ETA: about the heels. I'm almost 6' tall. I'm over 6'4 in some of my shoes. I love it. Plus, I have a 40" inside leg in some of my shoes. I look amazing. Tall women in heels - bring it on. Or what, do I make all those poor, short men feel scared and insecure? Sowwy, I'll go follow all those silly oppressive rules so men aren't scared of me and I look boring instead of eye-catchingly amazing and full of *shock horror* personality that I feel free to express.
I adhere to the no gold and silver together... Because I don't have any silver, I only have gold. I'm a princess. Never tried to deny it :p
As for the rest... I'm tall (5'9") and wear heels regularly. Well, I did. I will again, one day. I vow!
My diamonds frequently see daylight, see aforementioned princess thing.
I only have one handbag so it doesn't match my shoes. And it's a nappy bag so that probably breaks some other rule.
OP - where do you get your gold tiaras from? Cos I can often only find silver tiaras when I go shopping.
I wear gold or silver tiaras depending on which one I fancy on the day. That's right, DAY. Sometimes evening, but I have done the monthly food shop wearing a tiara before now. Including before Liebling.
No white gold or platinum OP? You should demand some just so you can break the rule :p
