Sick dog :-(
My 6 year old Cavoodle is sick.
Fri she came inside and went and weed on her mat.
Sat night DH said she didn't eat her dinner.
SUN he trys to ring me at work and sends me a pic she is swollen and red raw, not moving much and not eating. (i had car at work) I took her to emerg vet when I got home and vet very concerned as to why so swollen. Vulva, bottom and then pockets of fluids in her legs and belly and redness up her belly. ? ruptured urethra, ? CA, ? a bad infection.
She then told me costs and what may be if needs surgery and it is so so $ and sadly we wont be able to afford to do surgery etc as 1 no gurantees of good out come and 2 could be in range of $5000. So tonight I left here there for IV fluids and antibiotcs and bloods and will see how she responds. Vet was very nice and honest and did make me feel that if cost is a issue she understands and it is ok to have to decide to say goodbye.
I hope all ok and she gets better as I don't know what to tell kids and other dog will be so sad as well. But I am not feeling very positive.

Sick dog :-(
:( awww poor pups and poor you.

I'm so sorry to hear that your little fur baby is sick :( It's so distressing to see them in pain and unwell. If she needs to have surgery and costs are an issue, but you want options before deciding whether to say goodbye, you can give Lort Smith a call. They can be fantastic.

Sick dog :-(
Thanks girls. Mylitta do lort smith do things cheaper??
-
Lort Smith and RSPCA both tend to be far cheaper and are willing to work out payment plans. There is also a veterinary teaching hospital in Werribee which is much cheaper, someone else might know the details? I have a GF who has travelled from the Mornington Peninsula to Werribee for any surgery her two labs have required (one had a gynecological cancer and the other has had surgery on knees and hips) as it was the only way she could afford it. I think the surgery is performed by final year students under supervision. Might be worth investigating.
I hope it is just an infection and your girl is much improved this morning.
-
Feeb I am so sorry, what a horrible situation to be in. I hope the drugs do the trick and you don't have to decide about surgery or not.
-
Awe, I am sorry your doggy is sick. I hope that she gets better or you can work out something.

Sick dog :-(
Oh babe I'm so sorry, hoping there is setting they can do that is not too costly. Once you know what's wrong call Lort Smith. & ask what they can do.
-
Sorry your dog is so sick. As the others have suggested, maybe see if you can find an alternative vet who may be cheaper or can organise a payment plan?
-
 sorry to hear this and having been through a similar situation just this week I also recommend going to the Lort Smith

 hun, sorry your furbaby is so unwell.

Thanks for love and support.
DH rang this morning while I was taking kids to CC and they suggested picking her up and taking her to a local vet as would be much cheaper than staying there. They had overnight given her meds and drained fluid but was still an issue. They told DH that if we picked her up by 1000 would be $800 if we waited till afternoon would be $1400 so i dropped kids off picked DH up drove to get dog from emerg vet, he dropped me at work dropped her at local vet went home changed his shirt as blood and stuff on it then dropped car back to me!! This all before 0900 after getting to bed at 0200.
Local vet are monitering her said some improvement this arvo but not stable enought for surgery, so staying over night and see what happens. Still ? what cause is as redness, fluid, swelling bilateral.
I mentioned Lort smith to DH and the vet did suggest them or local vet, he rang local vet. Will certinley remind him again if we need to decide anything.

 feeb..horrible when your pets are sick and to have make a decision. Hope she improves without surgery.

So update is she is still leaking some urine into abdo, not sure why but hoping where ever hole is self heals. Still has an open drain to drain fluid, still on oral antibiotcs (IV fluid and AB's finished on tuesday night). They wanted me to pick her up tonight but given fact I have to work tomorrow I am picking her up tomorrow night instead as I dont want her home alone all day, will be hard keeping her quiet with 2 kids and away from other dog as much as possible so he doesn't lick her wounds. They are hoping another 2 weeks to heal.
-
Glad to hear your girl is on the mend.
Regards,
Dianne

Home now still has drain holes and on oral ab's and NSAID's. She is crazy and jumping and running as usual happy to be home, kids were excited then freaked out when she ran at them with an Elizabethan collar on!! To go back tuesday to vets.

Good to hear she's home. I hope she continues to improve.
