UTI in 4yr Old Girl.... please help

So i think DD2 has a UTI...

This arvo she was screaming in pain saying her "giney" hurt, and she refuses to go to the toilet because it hurts more.

So i took her to the doctor this evening, she has slight fever also so he has put her on antibiotics and after 30mins of encouraging and alot of patience i finally got a urine sample from her, which is going to take 2 days for the test results to come through.

Meanwhile is there anything i can do to help her while she goes to the toilet? she is too scared to pee!
anyone elses DD gone through this?
what can i except to happen? what might test results show?

What about ural? Not sure if kids can take it but it neutralizes the urine and might stop the burning a little. Poor thing - hope she feels brighter soon.

The chemist said she can't have it :-( I have used it once before for myself years ago and that stuff is great!!!!
I so hope she gets better soon too :( i hate not being able to help!


Her pee was pretty clear, not sure if that means anything... she drinks HEAPS of water.

Can you encourage her to drink loads of water? This helps the weeing to not hurt so much (possibly tell her that too?) Or drink cranberry juice? (Proper juice, not the cranberry flavored stuff) can't see how old she is, but could you crush up some cranberry tablets and give it in ice cream or something like that? They dont taste bad even on their own but yeah kids and tablets dont always mix lol

Try Ural. Yes, the package says not for under 7, but this is so parents don't just self treat. You have gotten a sample from her which is the main thing. (well that was the advice from the chemist I saw for DD2, who herself was also a mum)
Just double check with your chemist just to be sure yourself.

Pain relief of some kind may be beneficial as well and of course as much fluid as you can get her to have. Cranberry juice might be good as well.

Maybe cranberry juice hun and loads of water, I just had a bladder inflammation and the cranberry definitely helps. Poor poppet xoxox

That's no good - i thought it would be ok. You could research diet? I know what you eat changes your acidity level. Not sure what foods do what but you might be able to google it and come up with something? I do remember hearing citrus was a no-no for UTI's though.

Okay so i am getting ural tomorrow and cranberry juice :)

I did give her some panadol tonight, although i dare say she won't be going to the toilet again tonight LOL. I did manage to get her to do a small pee before bed.

She is pretty good at understanding things so i have explained the whole importance of going to the toilet to "flush" the bugs out of her belly that is making her "giney" hurt.

If the test results do come back with something could it be anything else other than a UTI? is there any other treatment besides antibiotics for a UTI?

Just read that i may need to change her bubble bath, so think i won't use bubble bath anymore

Heaven i hope your DD's never go through it! it is not nice!

Stressing me out and i am already stressed out enough :(

My girls had them years ago and we found wearing bike shorts or leggings while playing in sandpits & playgrounds helped.

A rinse off (in our house it was called a showerbath) also helped if you don't have time to fully bath them everynight

She has a bath every night, but wondering if maybe she should start having showers?!

Make sure she is wiping from front to back, DSD had to be told that at about the same age as she was going the wrong way and got a UTI from that we suspect

So hard to watch hem when they are in pain :hug:

I actually taught her that the other day myturn, as i caught her wiping the wrong way :-/ i think she finds that much harder to do and maybe this is why she has a UTI

With the wiping, could you try getting her to just "dab" dry rather than wipe? I know it's hard for little ones to reach and do it front to back, but if she did more of a dab or blot (without moving in either direction) that might help.

Some bicarb in the bath might help soothe the area a little. If she doesn't take to the cranberry juice, blueberries and cherries are also beneficial for UTIs (blueberries work in a similar way to cranberries), so you could mix the cranberry juice with sweeter/milder berries or just try blueberry juice straight up.

A squeeze bottle of warm water to squeeze over her bits while she wees might help the sting factor. Or encourage her to wee in the shower or bath if you think she is holding on.

HotI is right. This is what I had to do for 4 weeks after tearing when giving birth to DS1 (no one told me about ural).

It doesn't have to be hot or even warm water. Just keep a bottle filled up next to the loo and show her how to squirt it when she's doing a wee. It dilutes the acidity of the urine and makes is soooo much less painful :)

Tried to get her to pee in the shower last night ( i too remember how good that felt after having a bub hahahaha) but nope wouldn't work.

This morning i gave her, her antibiotics and panadol..... waiting for the panadol to "kick in" and managed to get her to pee after 30mins of tears she finally pee'd and it didn't hurt her much..... hoping that it is getting better and that it wasn't just the panadol?!

Either way im off to the shops this morning to pick up a few things that everyone has suggested :)
