Dd has what I thought was teething, but an tending to think is a cold.
Blocked, runny nose. Grizzly. She's clammy tonight but I've taken her temperature and its only 34.2. Is that really low?? This afternoon it was 36.4. I haven't given any panadol today. Is it really bad?

I would think your thermometer is reading wrong? What kind are you using?
I'd guess your thermometer is acting up as well. We had a digital one that went funny on us, and was reading the kids really low, and then high, and then low.
Do you have another one you could check with?
Its a buerer forehead one. I've taken it 4 times and it only varies by .1 my temp is reading at 36.7....
Just checked her straight after mine and it doesn't even register. Just sounds lo. Mine is perfect again,
She's in a singlet, pants, socks, tshirts and wrapped in bed.
How does she feel to touch? I'm pretty sure sub 35 is hypothermic, but I imagine she would be pretty crook if that was the case. Can you get her down to a chemist or after hours gp to check? I'd be worried if other people were recording fine and hers is low

Call nurse on call to check. More often than not its a dodgy thermometer or your technique might be slightly off, digital thermometers can be temperamental if you're not 100% but if that is really her temp she will need to checked out
Just to note though, if a person has a low temp/ is severely hypothermic they won't shiver/shake.

Spoke to health direct and she said to take her to emergency. In the meantime of me getting my bag she woken up properly and crawling and it's up to 35.9
Do you think it was because she was tired. Should I still go? I don't want to waste their time... Ahh wish DH was here!
Id still take her. Rather be safe than sorry.
Id take her just to be on the safe side. She's only little, and you aren't wasting any ones time by getting checked out. Hugs. Hope she's ok.

It won't be a fun wait and it probably won't be your last visit to the emergency department as a mummy but its worth it just in case there is something untoward going on. :hug: must be doubly hard without your DH

Emergency was packed. After 3 hours a nurse saw us and did the ob's but her temp was back at 36. I took my thermometer too and it's right. When she fell asleep though it dropped back to 34.1 which the nurse said he hadn't heard of before.
However, we weren't high on the priority list because her temp was ok now so we ended up leaving and I'll get her into my gp tomorrow.
There were some crazy sick kids there. I hope dd is just coping with a cold.
Glad her temp gets back to normal but no answers is never a great result.
My ds2 is a ftt child and he gets cold very easy. As a baby we would put a hat and socks on him even in.summer. Just the other night he came into our bed shaking with.cold but had heating and more blankets on his bed then his brother. I've never taken his sleeping temp but a might over the next few nights out of curiosity.

So with Hypothermia (low temps below 35.8) what we are concerned about generally is sepsis, which is a generalised wide spread infection in the body that is a very serious condition and requires hospital stay.
However some people have a naturally low temperature. My mother for example sits normally around 35 and when she is sick will have a fever of 36.5 (normal for you and me) Your bubba could just be one of these cool kids :) however I think follow you instincts and just take her to the GP today to get checked and make sure that the teething symptoms are just that.

We had a bad night of sleeping and I ended up giving her some panadol and got a 2 hour patch. She's up and into everything this morning but still grizzly, a temp of 35.4 and pulling at her ear. Her nose seems red as well, like inside, red and sore.
Have to wait for my gp to open. I wish there was a pediatric gp... Guess that defeats the term go though...

So they weren't too worried. She is all clear for ears, throat and chest. He has been given some antibiotic cream for her nose because they were worried it may be staph??
Temps didn't concern them. Says she got a virus and that could make the temperature drop.
So I'm at a bit of a loss...
I was under the impression that staph is fairly serious, I woul def keep a close eye on her and if she deteriorates any more, take her straight to emergency.
Don't wast time second guessing yourself.

Hun, I'm sorry you didn't get much of an answer. If you're not feeling comfortable with what the last GP had to say, I would definitely take her for a second opinion somewhere else. I know it's a huge hassle but mummy instinct is there for a reason :hug:
Staph is a type of bacteria that many people carry harmlessly on their skin (especially around the nose and mouth). It can sometimes get in through a cut or sore and cause an infection, which needs antibiotics. My sister had a golden staph infection on her leg which got pretty festy but cleared up in the end.:
If it doesn't clear up with the abs you have then it may need testing to determine exactly what strain of staph. It CAN be serious but in most cases is not. Just watch her closely and keep an eye on her temp and alertness and yes definitely get another opinion if you are worried. Mummy's intuition is so important.
Staph comes in lots of different strains. If they aren't concerned then I would think that its one of the less serious ones. My son had a little rash on his neck which turned out to be a staff infection. One round of antibiotics and it was gone.
