Heartburn
Anyone have a magic cure for acid reflux? It's currently kicking my butt.
i have Acidity tissue salts that I'm dropping like tic tac's but they barely make a difference. I realise this is just related to my current gestation, but I'm open to ideas. Apart from milk - I'm not tolerating dairy.

I suddenly got hit with bad heartburn at around 22 weeks and for a week I took 1-2 tbsp of organic apple cider vinegar mixed in a glass of water after meals and not only did it help me at the time but I haven't had heartburn since (I'm 25 + 4 now) except the rare acid up my throat here and there (VERY rare though! Once it was after I had nutella which sets HB off for me).
Worth a try I think. I tried other home remedies and even gaviscon tablets and liquid and they didn't help much. Eating a handful of almonds after hb had hit helped once or twice but nothing worked for me as well as apple cider vinegar. Probably worth mentioning I did also try and cut back on things I knew would set my hb off as well as sleeping slightly elevated at night.

Thanks.
Do the fruit tingles really work?
dot face - I usually drink ACV like it's cordial, but it burns going down and then meets the acid coming back up. I'll give it a go though. I already sleep on a wedge pillow to keep me propped up. I have pregnancy rhinitis, which is disgusting and I can't breathe properly lying down flat.

Fruit tingles work for me until I eat something else and it flares up again.

I had bad reflux with Moo, my midwife recommended Slippery Elm. I found it in a vitamin shop in capsule form, from memory I had to take it 2 or 3 times per day.
For some reason I didn't take it when I had a flare up with Buster, I found Tums helped though.

I stopped eating sugary treats and the heartburn was much better. Sometimes it was still there but not as severe.Try drinking peppermint tea as well. I also put a pillow under my matress so the bed it us on an angle that helped as well. With my two longer babies (54cms at birth) some things would help reduce the discomfort but not stop it completely.
I hope you get some relief.

That's hilarious!!! Must be because they are like bicarb?? the sugar would have made me worse.
You can drink Bicarb too L&B!!

I'm constantly drinking soda water :)

Tums, Rennies, Fruit Tingles, Peppermint Tea - sometimes a combo of all 4.... I had really bad heartburn with DD and have had varying degrees of it with this pregnancy but when it is bad it is really bad.... I have at least a packet each of Tums, Rennies and Fruit Tingles close by at all times - Peppermint Tea I tend to drink with my evening meal as it seems every and any thing we have for dinner causes a flare up.

Gaviscon. It soothes & also creates a barrier that helps keep tummy juice inside your tummy. There's a double strength one for when you're really desperate. Just don't get the aniseed flavour.
-
It's the bicarb in fruit tingles that make them work.
And don't worry about dairy as its converted to acid after you drink it and can make heartburn worse in the long run.
Bicarb mixed with lemon juice and water and drink while fizzing is supposed to be great but I find it hard to drink things like that with morning sickness which seems to be continuing still...
-
My go to when its bad is a tsp of bicarb in a glass of water. If its not bad/just started eating an apple helps nip it in the bud - I prefer to try to do that than the bicarb water. When I'm in bed I've found that lying with my arms above my head helps ease it.

My heartburn was so bad, my dr presribed Zantac for me. It was fabulous!
-
i use gaviscon at night time (the pink bottle double strength stuff.. works instantly) mines more indigestion which is just aweful, i wake up choking on all the refluxy stuff..
tums and rennies dont work for me, but i always have quickeeze chewy on me. dont last very long but temp relief is better than none..
i cant do bi carb and water, makes me vomit lol but have heard it works great (my mother swears by it)

Tums worked for me and sleeping on a raised pillow.

Heartburn
Quick ease! Xx hope u get some relief, it's awful! Xx

I lived on mylanta and zantac (and lots of milk, but I saw you're not on dairy).
I also was prescribed Periet which actually makes you produce less acid, I gather - worked well during my first pregnancy, but when I asked for it during my second, they said it wasn't given to preggo eggos.
Maybe ask your Dr, because it was the ob who gave it to me the first time!
But over all, sadly, it was all just managing symptoms. Heartburn knicked off week 34 with DS1, and after the c/section with DS2.
Hope yours leaves faster!!

I'll grab some Gaviscon tomorrow and see what the OB says next week. I know it's one of those pregnancy things, but I had a shocking night last night between acid and rhinitis.
-
Good luck, I hope you can get some relief.
-
I mentioned it to my ob and she prescribed me something starting with r (can't remember what it was). It worked brilliantly!
-
It can be really hard.
I had reflux and morning sickness, and there's nothing quite like vomiting acid and bile all at once ...
Keep reminding yourself it's only another few months.

I have heartburn a bit, but am really knocked for 6 by bouts of gastritis which seems to essentially be the same issue manifesting in a slightly different way (inflammation of the stomach lining causing acute pain). Gaviscon and Tums helped for mild heartburn last pregnancy but barely touched the really nasty episodes. This time 'round I'm on ranitidine and as long as I remember to take it early enough (as soon as I get the first little niggle that pain is imminent) and don't over indulge, it's an absolute life saver.
ETA: Incidentally, it's an OTC med, so you can trial it yourself or else wait to have a chat with yr OB. xo

Just an update. I started with the Gaviscon double action (pink bottle) and that helped for a while. Once I started carrying the bottle around with me, my OB ok'd Zantac. I was taking 2 a day for a while. Then I needed to top up with Gavsicon or Tums, as the Zantac would only last 6-8 hours rather than 12.
I'm now on a prescription medication Omeprazole, which is working well so far.

Is that like Pariet?
Hope the relief lasts until the arrival, love.
You're doing great!!
