Towels

This might not be so much of an etiquette thing as hygiene maybe ...

Do you re-use towels and how many times? I like to use a fresh towel each time and I like the kids too as well but my husband reckons they can be hung to dry and used the next night and even the next. He thinks I'm the crazy one.

So what do you do?

I usually wash the towels twice a week. So they get used 2-4 times depending on the user.

I see it as - they're used to dry clean bodies so they are reusable.

Hand towels on the other hand- I seem to do them most days.

Once a week I do towels!

Growing up, we only used our towels once. Then I met my DH who always re-used his towels, so I stuck with that because it meant less washing for me!

I was them once a week.

Ok, so maybe I am the crazy one!! But there's gotta be others like me!! Haha

Yeah their bodies are clean once showered/ bathed but they dry their privates and surely those aren't sparkly clean!! Maybe it's just the idea of it.

We use a clean towel each time and I wash twice a week.

We also re use ours but i dont like anyone to share a towel

I usually wash them twice a wk.

We go through 2 towels each a week so every 3-4 days we get a new one. I don't consider that we're dirty anywhere as we wash everywhere so I guess it's just a perception thing?

Wash once or twice a week. I don't like sharing a towel either.

We have our towels and the kids have their towels, usually used twice before I throw them in the wash.

Reuse and wash once a week. But I like to use 2 towels, one for face and hair, other for the rest of my body. DS has dry towel and face washer, face washer is for face and hair.

No idea, DH does them, I think once a week.

When I have been in charge I.e. Before lived together then mine got done whenever thought got a bit whiffy.

I hate it when hotels wash them after each use such a waste of water and energy although alot of them now have a system where leave in certain place if happy to use again.

When I was a kid my aunty used to visit and she would wash her families towels after each use - it drove my mum bonkers.

Couple times a week. I have 2 showers a day (yes OCD) so there is no way I would change it each shower.

On a side note the inlaws of a friend of mine....one towel for a family of four.....yep. Hate to be the last person for the night!

Um, I wash whenever I remember.

If something gets spilled, I usually grab a towel from the bathroom and clean it up and then chuck it in the wash. If the kids leave it on the floor and the cats get on it, then I'll chuck it in the wash. If ours get a bit smelly then I will wash them.

I don't have rules in my house, I wash the cloth wipes (for nappies) every second day, and after the prewash, I chuck in any whites and any towels that are in the laundry waiting to be washed. Very rarely will I go around to both bathrooms and collect the towels for a wash. Who has time for that! LOL

I aim to wash once a week although to be honest it often ends up being longer. You have to make sure there's plenty of well ventilated drying space though. Doesn't work if you've got them all crammed into a too small towel rack

I use 2 towels 1for face and hair and another for the rest and throw the second towel and use the face towel as the second one next time and get a new one for face and hair
I figure I wipe my vagina with the second one so I put it straight in the wash just

Lucky to get two uses out of towels in winter. They just don't dry properly in the bathroom. So in winter I feel like all I am doing is washing towels :rolleyes:

I usually use them a couple of times before I wash them.
Unless I use them at the gym. I stand on them after I have showered at the gym so they go straight in the machine when I get home.

We only use towels once, its what I grew up with. For years I thought that was normal until I met dh and his family and found out we were doing something unusual lol. Even using towels once I have clothes needing to be washed more than towels a week.

We wash them once a week, sometimes a bit longer. We all share towels, don't know whose is whose, but we don't really care either haha. The only towel with a specific owner is the 5th towel on the rack, which is for putting my hair straightener on/wiping excess makeup on/whatever other beauty related use I need it for.

We generally reuse until something gets spilled and I use a towel to clean it up or if I can smell it. Everyone uses any. I hang them in the hot water cupboard so they are always dry by the next night.

I grew up in a use once family but have changed my ways since laundry became my job :)

My plan is to change them twice a week. My children find it far easier to toss them in the laundry than to hang them up, so they often end up being single use! If I discover them right away, I hang them up - or tell the kids to! - but if they have sat on the floor for a few hours I wash them. No one has their own towel, we use whichever is closest!

Not one of my kids know how to hang up a towel. So some will be single use.
We all have towels we own, so use our own usually. Til we're at the dregs of the pile, then we (they ;)) use what ever is left. I only wash them on sundays, so if they've left theirs on the floor & they smell, too bad.

I use towels (try for used ones) to clean up spills etc too.

MIL washes after each use. I hang mine when there, because I really don't think its necessary.

Once a week, but I do them twice a week when my mum is here, lol! Wouldn't want her to think she didn't raise me properly... ;)

We all have our own towels - if someone else uses my towel though, straight in the wash. And, we have a hand towel in the bathroom for drying hands. I'd wash more often if we didn't have hand towels.

As an aside, DH got DS his own towel, bath mat and hand towel with his name embroidered on them for his second Xmas present!

We all have our own towels plus I have a separate hair towel and we also have a hand towel. I wash once a week if I remember but the hand towel gets washed more often. I never wipe up anything other than bodies with the bath towels. Our towel rail is above the heating duct so they dry quickly and if anyone forgets to hang their towel up, tough - they have to get dried with a damp towel. They don't seem to forget too often after that :D

I can't bear the thought of wasting that much water and electricity on washing towels that have just been used to dry something that has been washed - but that's me. I'm more of an enviro green freak than a clean freak so my priorities may be different ;)

We all have own own towels (cause I'm sick of not being able to find a dry towel when I want a shower cause they're all in the kids bedrooms!) and they get washed once a week.

We also have 3 sets of spare towels for visitors

Tea towels and kitchen hand towels get washed once a week too, they only get used for a day before they're replaced and they get washed separately to the bathroom towels.

I need clean towels!

But not super for the environment, so I have levels ...

1st use - my body

2nd use- my hair

3rd use - to sit on, in front of the heater while getting dried.

any use - DH.

Once a week, we all have our own towels.

2-3 weeks unless people are particularly grubby and they start to smell. We can't afford to waste water on washing towels that often because we're only on tank water.

At least once a week, but I change individual towels in between if they are getting ponky (but still wash them once a week). Our bathroom is cold and damp so in winter towels take turns in front of the heater. Getting them dry quickly seems to keep the ponk-factor to a minimum.

Kitchen hand towels & tea towels get changed more often, every day or two usually, but I wash them all together when there's enough for a full load.

FWIW I think the once-a-week thing came from my Nanna and Grandma who both had once-a-week washing days. For Grandma this meant Monday was washing day and Tuesday was ironing day, Wednesday she visited, Thursday was shopping day, and on Fridays she baked in readiness for the weekend when people would come from near and far to eat her baked goods.
